I think the last ones made after reunification had Polo 1.2l engines, remember the drive to Poland and fueling up in EastGermany and having to pay in West German Marks and the locals filling up with petrol and measuring out the amount of oil to go in to the tank.

My Nephew bought a Trabant for his Hungarian father in law as a run around on his small holding , when he returned back a few weeks later, he had hacksawed the roof off and made it into a pickup 😂 …… he had waited about 4 years for a new one in the 70’s ticking the options box for wipers, 3 years later it turned up without wipers, the dealer said if you want wipers you will have to go back on the 3 waiting list 🙈😂)

I have great memories with trabant😁 good thing is you don't need to worry about rust because whole car is from bakelit ( material) if you need to know something about trabant let me know. Swap engine. You could use engine from Fiat punto mk1 1.2 16v 63 bhp.
Guy replaced the 2 stroke for a 16 valve? The he's not the guy i used to like :( is like adding more wheels to a motorcycle 😅

@@samuraile6625 I drove one in Romania where I'm from. The combi one btw. As far as a 2 stroke engine goes with gasoline+oil mixed already in the gas tank, well... (combine that with large intake valves) , few times I had to replace the air filter b/c it had oil on it , 4real soo... challenges make a motorist more skilfull.

The Trabant was NOT unreliable. It was the most reliable car in the Eastern block and was very easy to repair/maintain.
Right! It's a two-stroke with minimal parts and maybe 9 wires.

the question is after that statement is how many eastern block cars is it being compared to?
