  • The challenge here was to find a fast effective ‘doco’ rig that can stick to the T-Shirt without creating an impression.
We tried a MiniMount in the neck line, an URSA Fur stuck facing the skin and then added an extra strip of Mepitac Tape to help reduce the impression of the circular stickie on the T-shirt.
We did some other rigs like pinning a Foamie to the T Shirt neck line as well that sounded good too, but as we covered these in another video so decided to leave it out of this one.
Filmed at Visono Media in Stockholm.

What I like about being able to see this content is to see the trial and error in fixing and finding the proper placement/rig that works for each situation. Thank you for sharing. Cheers!

There is a neat trick for T-shirt: on the outside place a larger strip of paper tape in the area where you'll place lav on the inside of the T-shirt, and then place the lav like in the video. After placing the lav, carefully peel off the paper tape that is on the outside. It should look like there is nothing on the inside of the T-shirt. Hope this helps.

Love your work. Thank you for all your videos. I especially like "what's in your rig" but these tutorials are also fascinating :) Thank you

I found using that skin coloured mepitac tape, making a sandwich for the mic helps make a more flush flat position and you don't see the mic, I used this method on a vest in a prison shoot & it sounded great.

You can hid a lavalier microphone under a shirt for both men and women. It does take a little bit of planning and concealing the microphone.

I've noticed that on every show or movie I watch, I hear absolutely zero lav mic rustling. Even on reality tv shows. Is that due to clean up in post or do sound utility people have a God-like ability to mic talent? I just don't understand, hahaha

Yes this question definitely needs to be answered.

They might be using a boom mic instead. Or they might've, as you said, cleaned it in post

In narrative stuff, if there is rustling that's bad enough, they are going to be dubbed in post.

Definatly some sound issues in shows like the bachelor. Some shows have even used captions. So definatly not all hows are free from noise.

Real good video... being a two dimensional medium, I find that, unless extreme, the mike/tape impression tends to look more like a slight shadow and is not quite that noticeable.

Were you using the minimount with the second placement with the URSA fur? Thx for the video!
