- How to combat that squelchy sound of Sticky Tape coming un-stuck close to a mic 😫
This can often be heard if the mount is rigged on a part of a costume that wants to bend outwards, overtime this movement can cause double-sided sticky tape to partially come unstuck. You can hear the noise this creates at the beginning of the video 😱
Simon demonstrates the LMC Vamp Clip with a DPA 4060 and also shows a neat cable looping trick to help avoid cable noise. Additionally we show a pinned Foamie rig + some wind protection tricks.
This was a rig Simon used when he mixed a TV Drama in the UK featuring Richard Gere called 'MotherfatherSon' for the BBC.

As a soundie in a small market that can't make it to these workshops, these videos are massively helpful, thank you so much for sharing them!
Exactly!
We hope these workshop videos are useful? Do let us know. We have some more coming soon from our workshops this year in Madrid, Stockholm, Paris, Wales & Oslo
Love these tips! It always surprises me how many different techniques there are
Thanks for sharing these tips!
Great info. Love having this video reference even after seeing it done In person in Toronto. Thank you!
Those videos are crazy useful, I learn a lot from them ! And since I can't really get to workshops physically, it's my only option :-]
Good stuff
I’m a little confused with the URSA tape does it over or under the pins of the vampire clip? It looked hard to see from the camera angle.
currently working on a Netflix show based in the 1800s and some of the costumes are very tricky, how do you apply this technique to an exterior rig where it’s windy? I’ve been struggling to get the wires to sound clean on tight shirts
Congratulations ! But I can’t be of help here, sorry
