    The 5.1 sounds like a 2.0 upmix for the most part.

    Thank you Adam and I agree with you even though this doesn't have any special HDR sauce the transfer and overall looks actually holds up really well. OLED has a way of even helping SDR content. Good film stock and skilled cinematography also go a long way. RIP to Sidney Poitier who passed this year

    I picked mine up 2day on 4K. I noticed on the blu ray. It came with 2 other movies. That's awesome

    If people are looking for the definitive version WITH DOLBY VISION, there’s the 4K UHD German release. Otherwise stick to the Criterion 2K, imo.

    Hey Adam, don’t have this in my collection but I’m deathly going to pick this one up that said I am a little disappointed it doesn’t have HDR as I’m obviously a big fan especially Dolby Vision I’m wondering are there any 4K releases originally released with no HDR and on their second release they have it would be an interesting comparison something maybe you could do if that’s possible as there are not many second time 4K releases. What comes to mind are the recent Sony Dolby Vision upgrades karate kid and Ghostbusters are the two that I know of if by chance you happen to have both versions of either one of those movies that would be an interesting comparison as I’m sure the Dolby Vision is better probably not worth an upgrade but probably if you hadn’t purchased either one yet you should get the Derby version version if possible. Back to the HDR thing I just picked up and watched pitch black I really thought it looked great I was so happy with how it looked a lot of that was the HDR believe that one was Dolby Vision as well if they’ll do that for pitch black how can that not be done on in the heat of the night.
    Kino’s email state’ keep in touch ‘so I sent them an email thanking them for doing such a good job on touch of evil and some like it hot and shared my disappointment in the lack of HDR and some of the other titles and let them know how much us movie fans value HDR encourage you if you haven’t already done so and others reading this to do the same anyways Adam thanks for all you do and have a good one👍

    I have almost given up on Kino. I am not pleased when they don't include HDR.

      Makes sense, but at least these are better versions than what was released before. Dolby Vision should be on all these discs.

      @@FastEddie86 It doesn't look as good as it would with Dolby Vision though, not even in the same ballpark, don't fool yourself.

    • @FastEddie86
      @FastEddie86 Před 2 lety

      @@CoolhandLukeSkywalkr some like it hot has Dolby vision. The apartment doesn’t. They both look incredible. Can’t really tell the difference. Wether that applies to in the heat of the night or the great escape I don’t know, but I’m grateful.

      @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr Před 2 lety

      @@FastEddie86 You can't tell the difference between Dolby Vision and 8-bit video? Seriously? Maybe you have a 4k TV with extremely poor hdr. What 4k TV do you use? Are you watching in Dolby Vision or regular hdr10? Still, hdr is always a huge upgrade on pq.

    HDR usually make more difference than 4K

    • @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr
      @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr Před 2 lety +1

      At least as big a difference. Hevc and 2160p together pack a punch, even without hdr. It is a letdown though.

  • @kovalveli
    @kovalveli Před 2 lety +3

    No HDR ? Why bother with 4K ?

    • @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr
      @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr Před 2 lety +4

      Because you get 2160p resolution and hevc encoding, no other reason.

      You're just 55 years too late though to do anything about it... also remember that MLK had been assassinated a few days before the oscars that year... nevertheless this movie still did deserve to win on its own merits

    Hey Adam, can you tell me if the bonus disc is region locked. I'm getting different info from different sites, but no independent info. I would really like this especially has it has 2 bonus films on it, some Kino bonus discs are region free (Great Escape) while others aren't.
    Hope you can help, I know the box says A, but it said that on G Escape, all the best, Glenn.

    No HDR, no audio upgrade & no buy 👎

    • @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr
      @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr Před 2 lety +3

      It's a valid argument. If you already own the criterion version it's a very slight update. If they ever release an hdr version, it's yet another disc to buy. 😆

  • @balkee42
    @balkee42 Před 2 lety +2

    Have u compared to the criterion blu ray?

    • @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr
      @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr Před 2 lety

      It's the same exact transfer but with 2160p and hevc. It's not a night and day difference.

    • @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr
      @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr Před 2 lety +1

      The color grading/skin tones/dark levels etc appears identical on the 4k and the standard criterion blu-ray. The difference is just the sharper image with all of the grain intact on the UHD, the criterion copy looks a bit dnr abused, by direct A / B comparison.

  • @raycruz4492
    @raycruz4492 Před 2 lety

    Since the Heat of the Night 4k has no hdr, can you do a comparison between it and the Criterion version?
