- Hikari First Bites - Ideal Food for Baby fish Fry that you may already have in your tank or that you are planning to breed. It's easy to get hold of online and not too expensive and in my humble opinion is one of the best fry foods currently available.
I use a pestle and mortar to crush regular food for all my fish. I use a mix of tetra pro colour and fluval bug bites and it grinds into a powder with some bigger chunks... I've had several unexpected spawnings and when you don't know your fish have spawned in a well matured and planted tank, it takes the guesswork out of most of it. It's not like I planned it this way, I just wanted to feed 2 different types of food to small fish and shrimp... and then the same process as much as possible so it wasn't too complicated :)

This was a really great video. I loved all the footage of the fry, and you gave some good information. Thank you a lot. I just found some White Cloud Minnow fry in a tank I thought was empty. The adult fish haven't been in there for a week or two.
I use several hikari foods in my fishroom, I really like they’re products! From these first bites that my tiny shelldwellers fry just love…even the adults seem to go for it with passion!. Also the hikari sinking cichlid excel, for my other Africans. Then my snails love the crab cousins. And another hikari food that I believe is underrated is the hikari micro bites. I could go on lol, but we get the idea I’m a fan of hikari🙂👍🏻
Nice explanation on amount of quantity usage. This is going to help many who aspires to raise fry artificially.

I love Hikari foods. The Saki HiKari is good for my goldfish. My guppies are always bright and large in the guppy food and my white clouds eat that too as the pellet is so small. I love first bites for my fry as well as freeze dried cyclops from San Francisco Bay brand which fry love and it’s about the same size as first bites. I dip my finger in both like you do in the video. Thanks and great video!

I'm keeping fry in a breeder net right now. I've noticed the stuff that gets to the bottom gets sucked through by the danios from outside the net. They are happy to eat up the excess.
What camera do you use? I have been looking for something that can capture small details like this video.

Hi. Recently my angelfish spawed but they ate their eggs, which was better since I had no food fot the not-so-possible fry. But, when you know you have a successful pair, they'll breed a lot more later on. So I was going to ask if this is acceptable for a day old newborn angelfish fry? I wanted to do brine shrimp but it's way too expensive here where I live and it'd take way too long for it to be shipped here from Amazon, and I also have some emergency infusoria but I'd better use it for actual emergencies which isn't now since I have time to get new food for them.
I have about 150 angelfish fry currently and on day 22 since eggs were laid. Mine took to the Hikari first bites immediately and I've fed nothing else so far. You'd feed them once the majority of the wrigglers are freeswimming normally, not earlier when they are just beginning to try swimming. My angelfish pair aborted the spawn the 3 times, and the spawn failed to freeswim 3 times also and died before freeswimming. so I had the first 6 spawnings as failures before a successful spawn. I don't know if it's the learning process of the parents, or their maturity, or viability of the eggs or a combination, but it took a while after they started laying eggs to find the parents with a swarm of freeswimming fry finally. I removed the parents from the tank at 2 weeks after laying eggs, about when the fry started pestering the parents hanging out on the fins and scales maybe nipping on the slime coat.
I tried to jar rear the eggs but that didn't really help much(might have been too early also) and more work than just leaving them with the parents who eventually figured it out.
Is it safe for bamboo shrimps/filter feeders?
I'm on day one of free swimming Angelfish fry. They seem to be eating the first bites. Have you had any experience with Angelfish and this product?
What's the update with your angelfish? I also have baby angel fry and was wondering if they will eat and survive with the food.
Can you feed the to betta fry as well ?
Yes definitely, only for the first few days though, they will soon take bigger foods like BBS and that will grow them on much faster.

Hey! Yes, Hikari bites are ideal for very young betta fry for the first week, then they should be large enough for fresh hatched brine shrimp. Good luck!

Hey Lotus. Definitely. I used to raise panda guppies and the fry happily took hikari first bites for the first week or so, but they grow fast and so by week two could eat crushed up hikari micro pellets which was much easier to regulate.

Don't try to feed these to your betta fish fries. Those little suckers won't nib anything that isn't live.
I scared that if I buy this Hikari First Bites, my 4-6days Betta flies doesn't eat in the end. I'm a BBS guy here. 🤔
I freeze it, but I freeze all my fish food.
I think they would be doing everyone a favor if they knocked down wheat flour one or two ingredients down the list.
