If you have sensitive skin, shaving can be a daunting task. I have personally dealt with sensitive skin issues my entire life. My neck is prone to redness and irritation and I occasionally get really terrible ingrown hairs around my chin. It's not fun, it hurts, and it can really ruin your day.
    GILLETTE SKINGUARD RAZOR → bit.ly/2Wo3dzp
But it's interesting, though, because sensitive skin is an issue that not many guys talk about. Why? Men don't have sensitive skin, right? They're men after all! That's one of the problems. The fact is that two out of three men deal with sensitive skin and today's video is all about bringing an awareness to the issue, educating you on the symptoms and causes of sensitive skin, and talking about some solutions for dealing with sensitive skin.
    Sensitive Skin Symptoms:
    1. Redness
    2. Itching
    3. Stinging
    4. Tightness
    5. Burning
    6. Ingrown Hairs
    7. Razor Bumps
Steps To Ease Sensitive Skin Symptoms:
    1. Hydrate
    2. Lather
    3. Shave
    4. Soothe
The Gillette Skinguard razor is designed for the guy who deals with sensitive skin issues. Unlike other Gillette multiple-blade razors, the Skinguard Razor only has two blades. Fewer blades equals less irritation. Additionally, the presence of a "fence" between the blades serves to keep the blades elevated and prevent them from digging into the skin and lifting the beard hair, one of the biggest causes of ingrown hairs.
    GILLETTE SKINGUARD RAZOR → bit.ly/2Wo3dzp
If it sounds like you're not going to get as close a shave as a multiple-blade razor or a safety razor, that is correct. It's a concession you've got to be willing to make in order to not experience any of the sensitive skin symptoms. Hey, the good news is that a five o'clock shadow is always kind of sexy!

Stop using these multi blades cartridge razors people. Get yourself a safety razor. It’s a much better experience and the blades are EXTREMELY inexpensive compared to cartridges. My neck use to look like sunburn after shaving with a cartridge razor. Having used a safety razor now for close to 10 years I have never had this problem. I don’t know how we all got fooled into thinking these multi blades things are better.

The entire process of wet shaving is extremely enjoyable.
Picking a scented cream, the hot towel, applying with a brush, the multiple passes, a cold towel, then after shave.
Both safety razors and multi-blade razors work for me, but I prefer safety razors because they're much cheaper.
I've had a beard for a couple years but I miss it. Will probably get back to it soon.

A great argument that I am a fan of. Being a safety razor user for over a decade, it was one of the reasons I was very interested to try this product. With a safety razor, I still experience irritation on my neck and ingrown hairs from time to time. It's definitely not a technique thing since I've been doing it for a long time. As mentioned, the Skinguard has two blades instead of the five or six that you typically see. To be honest, I was very surprised. Are you getting as close a shave? No. And the brand knows that. But I have to say that it is very comfortable as a result. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have brought this topic up. Appreciate the conversation.

Tyrone E I personally love Artisan Soaps. The Stirling, Phoenix artisan accoutrements, Fine, Caties Bubbles, Soap Commander are all affordable top notch soaps per quality/cost. Then you have the all time classics like Proraso, Taylor Of Old Bond Street, Mitchell’s Wool Fat, Tabac, Arko, Palmolive are all better than the amateur “Can Of Goo”
All things like brushes, razors, soaps aftershave colognes and different DE blades make it fun to mix & match your shave depending on your mood. The act of Traditional WetShaving makes it not only fun but relaxing! It’s our “ZEN TIME” where we take a little time for ourselves. After all Shaving is skin care and great hygiene. Not saying if you rock a beard your dirty because I used to have a beard for a long time. Nevertheless getting ppl to make the switch is clear city proof that WetShaving is making a comeback

I have the same issues as you do in the lower neck area and I always shave in the shower and the number one thing that I could recommend to stop getting that irritation after shaving is DO NOT SHAVE AGAINST THE GRAIN meaning on your neck area shave in the direction that your hair grows you will still get a fairly close shave without the irritation and I am a guy that cannot shave every day on my neck it has to grow out a little bit 2 or 3 days if you try and shave everyday and you're susceptible to irritation if that neck hair only has a day to grow first of all what irritation is there from the shave before it hasn't had time to heal and you're just adding on to it so don't shave Against the Grain and minimum shave every other day or every second day if you do that you pretty much take care of the irritation you will get some sometimes but for the most part it takes care of it God bless you all

I had been battling the shaving sensitive skin problem for way too long until I finally dumped all those modern plastic multiblade razors and went back to using traditional double-edged razor blades, along with proper and thorough lathering.
Takes a while to get proficient with, but gets me reasonably close shaves without any irritation in two passes max.
Definitely worth a try. And less expensive than all the plastic-type razor systems.

First off, congratulations for the sponsorship. Gillette offers a nice product and I still wonder why many people love to bash on them.
I frequently use a safety razor but it's not ideal for a smooth baby face shave. I use my multi-blade Gillette razor to finish my shave and also to cut my hair on the back of my head where I got a birth bump that I have to take care.
Also, I recommend their shaving creams. Much better than Nivea and other ones on the same price range. I never tried an expensive one tho.

I have found a simple method: pre shave oil.
You don't need the expensive stuff make your own with mix of argan oil, jojoba oil, liquid vit E (and essential of your choice for the scent which is optional).
After you washed and warmed your face rub you preshave on you face 1-2 min then go on with the lathering.
I have never been able to shave everyday because of aching and my face getting irritated, but when I found out about oils, I can shave everyday. No pain, no irritation no aching afterwards.
This is all assuming you got your shaving techniques in place.
    have a nice day.

A good shave oil is your friend. It will make your skin more plausible and less susceptible to nicks and cuts. I would also recommend a product I've been using for more than 20 years now called Tend skin. Nearly through the skin immediately. Will make the face and neck less prone to ingrown hairs and razor bumps. There are a lot of products on the market that claim to do the same however this one actually works. I also recommend a good DA single blade Safety razor over Gillette. These five and sometimes six blade systems are the root cause of Razor discomfort which lead to all of what was mentioned. Furthermore after gillette's toxic masculinity ad they will never get another dime of my money.

    • @hespokestyle
      @hespokestyle  Před 5 lety

Exactly what I said in the video. The Skinguard razor only has two blades, which is to lessen the effects of multiple blade irritation. More blades equals more potential for irritation. I have been a wet shaver for over a decade and still experience irritation on the neck and sometimes ingrown hairs. It's not a technique thing, it's just my skin. Many others deal with similar issues.

    • @BotanicAlpaca
      @BotanicAlpaca Před 5 lety +1

If you mean cartridge, there's a coloured stripe on the razor head, most times it's blue I think, when that stripe becomes white you definitely need to change your razor head.On the other hand if you mean double edged razor blades it varies from blade to blade but I use them around 3-5 times and then I get a new blade.

I always see this in these type of shaving videos, people talking about de razors, so here are my 2 cents: If you think that shaving with a cartridge razor causes you a lot of skin irritation and razor bumps/ingrown hair, if you like experiementing with shaving soaps, aftershaves razors and brushes, if you think that shaving could be a nice relaxing 'me time' hobby, then you should check out wetshaving. In my opinion cartridges have a big advantage, they are hastle free. You don't need to worry about the angle of the blade or the pressure you're using. On the other hand, de shaving has a learning curve, you need to learn how to use a de razor, create a lather with a brush.
So...too long didn't read, cartridge care free
    Wet shaving/de razors hobby

Trust me, there is no compromise with a single blade safety razor, either with closeness or irritation prevention. This is just a slight of hand by Gillette who know that people are cottoning on but still can't abandon their old marketing tactic which tricks people into thinking that the more blades the better. In actual fact it's worse in all areas, more irritation, not as close.

But Brian, we all know that you prefer traditional safety razor blade shaving with a shaving brush. :/

I have used one for over a decade. It was interesting to try this product. I was certainly skeptical, but was honestly very surprised at the results and complete lack of irritation. There are positives and negatives to either method. For the Skinguard, the issue is that you don't get as close a shave. It's something I brought up and they are fully aware of--as I mention, it is by design. I wouldn't say that I have severe issues by any means--though when I do get ingrown hairs, that is pretty major. For guys who have struggled with serious sensitive skin symptoms, this could be a great product for them. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have created a discussion.

You know, if he just listed that as an option, it still would have been an effective Gilette ad, since most people still won't go that route, but we wouldn't be so annoyed.

These razors are terrible, expensive, and make my beard grow under the skin. The definitive solution that solved my problem is wet shaving, with DE razors.

I used to get really bad irritation from shaving until I switched over to a double-edged safety razor.
Why use a razor with two or more blades when one does the job and results in less irritation? Not to mention the blades are much cheaper.

I'm a fan of your argument. As someone who has been a wet shaver for over a decade, I hear you. I do get irritation with a double-edged razor blade though and after 10 years I'd consider myself a pro with the safety razor. I will admit to not being as fastidious about changing my blade--maybe once every four or five days--which I know has an effect. Cheers.

Been shaving with a DE for longer than I ever used a cartridge razor and I still get ingrown hairs on my neck. It's a genetic thing to some extent and it's not just about how you shave. A less close shave will decrease the possibility of ingrown hairs though as they're already above the skin surface

He Spoke Style yeah I really like your outfit review videos. I live in Houston so it’s basically hot all the time so I’d like to hear you comments/opinions on light summer clothing options. So I though the summer Pitti would be a good chance for you to do that.

No wonder you have sensitive skin. You never shave in the direction of hair growth. Surprised your face isn't chopped up more. You also need to be gentle with the skin. Pulling and tugging it while applying facial products makes it worse.

@@hespokestyle I'm not sure if this is an option for every video but i've seen it on other videos, there is a pop up label showing "includes paid promotion". I would be totally cool with that. I understand that the point of the channel is to educate, entertain but it's also a business. I don't have problems with paid endorsements as long as they are clearly stated. In the case of this video, I think it is a bit misleading, especially if you don't read the description of the video itself. I generally like your content due to it's high quality of production and content but this one was a slip up. Everyone can learn from mistakes and I though my feedback may help you while creating future videos. cheers!

What's misleading about that? Seems to be stated pretty clearly and conspicuously. Encourage you to watch this video as well (also linked in this one) where I outline my thoughts on sponsorship: czcams.com/video/SGmQ42RVueo/video.html
