If our God, His son not sparing, came to rescue you, isn't there any circumstance that He can't see you through? So true, no matter what you're going through, He is by your side. Amen!!

THAT is the line that pierced my soul. I needed to hear it many years prior, but heard at the perfect time to grow. Christian's gave Amy tons of grief for "crossing over," but I am glad she did. She sang the line that got past my stubbornness. From that point, I sought and found the God she spoke of.

This track was JUST AS AWESOME as anything else on the radio/MTV in the '80's. But the music industry preferred to promote sleazy acts, then as now.

Amy Grant remains one of the best Christian and pop musicians of all time. She bridged the gap between those two genres, when most thought it was impossible...and she keeps reinventing her approach every few years to stay relevant with her audience. I got to see her perform live at a 2016 Christmas show with Michael W. Smith, and it was a blast.

    • @judye3020
      @judye3020 Před 8 lety +6

+grown man Right. I just don't understand why a lot of people raised such a stink when she (and other Christian artists around that time) "crossed over" into mainstream pop radio. Song lyrics do not always have to mention God or Jesus to be considered moral. As long as song lyrics don't go against Biblical standards, I personally don't see a problem. I know there are some people who disagree, but everyone has different convictions.

    • @creativewriter3887
      @creativewriter3887 Před 3 lety

@@judye3020 I know I'm late the game, but yeah.. Xian fuddy duddies had a major stroke when Amy Grant crossed over to mainstream pop... I don't know what pissed them off more... that she crossed over or was somewhat SUCCESSFUL in doing so. Okay, so her looks helped, but she had slowly been building her repertoire for at least a decade-- especially when she left the folksy sound of her earlier albums and went more pop sounding with her first two live recordings.. Xians ignore that the music was "mainstream" and she was already working with class acts! I remember xians having a stroke when she takes her jacket off in this video.. "my god she's stripping".. please! Madonna's "Open Your Heart" was stripping.. this was simply a good song and opened the doors for her collaboration with Peter Cetera and Richard Page.. so by 1990 she was ready for "Heart in Motion" (my FAVORITE Amy Grant record.. "Lead me On being second). I agree with you... good inspirational music is good inspirational music and doesn't have to be a hard sell. It's how you LIVE that is the true barometer and sad to say so many judgmental and "righteous" people will fail on that level-- while most everyone else live their lives day to day as a silent testimony to others of love and grace--- often not even realizing the impact they have. We remember the acts of kindness more than these fiery sermons and "calls to action". I am glad that I left xianity when I did but I have Amy Grant's albums as my life's soundtrack of that time. Music is always timeless.

You tell me your friends are distant
You tell me your man's untrue
You tell me that you've been walked on
    And how you feel abused
So you stand here an angry young woman
Taking all the pain to heart
I hear you saying you want to see changes
But you don't know how to start
    [Chorus:]
Love will find a way (How do you know)
Love will find a way (How can you see)
I know it's hard to see the past and still believe
Love is gonna find a way
    I know that
Love will find a way (A way to go)
Love can make a way (Only love can know)
    Leave behind the doubt
    Love's the only out
Love will surely find a way
I know this life is a strange thing
    I can't answer all the why's
    Tragedy always finds me
And I'm taken again by surprise
I could stand here an angry young woman
Taking all the pain to heart
But I know that love can bring changes
And so we've got to move on
    [Chorus]
If our God His Son not sparing
    Came to rescue you
    Is there any circumstance
That He can't see you through

OX MONSTER It’s not a ridiculous comment, although perhaps a bit overdramatic. She took a lot of heat when she divorced Gary Chapman. I remember CCM stores refusing to carry her music and CCM radio stations having anti-Amy events. It was probably a lot of unnecessary stress added to what I’m sure was already a stressful time in her life. Look at the Dixie Chicks... exact same thing. What they said was really pretty innocuous and their career was pretty much destroyed for it by the country music establishment. We’re so proud as Americans in our right to free speech, but only as long as it follows the party line. The only difference between us and the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages is that we don’t kill you but we will take away your livelihood and make death threats against you.

@@TascamTascam No it is not. She had to deal with her ex-husband's addiction, then being kicked off Billy Graham's tour for having the gall to divorce her drug-using husband (and thereby having the whole xian world turn on her) and then having some other personal issues, then her parents dementia and losing them, then having heart surgery a few years ago. Yeah.. she's had it a little rough, but she's always had a grace and peace about her.

I forgot what a fuss this song and the entire album caused upon release.
People debating openly "is it Christian"?
But Amy's popularity among Christian teenagers was never higher.
And you know what, even her later secular stuff "Baby Baby" and "House of Love" PALES in comparison to "Unguarded" and "Straight Ahead".
This song has an interesting structure (listen to how it suddenly changes rhythm in the mid bridge section) with an endlessly catchy positive message.

Yet she's been much criticized, and that's a shame because she contributed to bring many teenagers to Christ, thanks to her positive lyrics and beautiful music.😊

I sort of believe what your parents said is true. I was an exchange high school student in the northern Kentucky area from August 1985 to July 1986. My host family didn't have a cable TV but one pop radio station in Cincinnati aired this song so frequently that this was a catchy pop song to me who didn't understand English lyrics about the Christian creed very well. At any rate, this is one of the great songs during my American high school year I don't think I will forget. Listening to this song always brings back a lot of happy memories to me.
