    Teaching something takes way more than just being good at it, you truly have the characteristics and features of what makes a good coach. Such golden tips, striker mma fighter here and I feared ground game more than anything, ever since I discovered this channel and took your tips into consideration jiu jitsu stopped being a nightmare for me, I actually understand and do pretty good at it now, all thanks to you!!!

    Another great ‘concepts’ video. The lion-gazelle analogy is very sticky. I was having trouble hitting the Americana from side control against someone with really strong arms and I can’t wait to try again with this approach. Thanks Coach Tom!

    Great analogy with the general concept of breaking away from the herd. Thank you!

    Hm, I agree with the kimura, but with the Americana, it's easier to finish when you bring his elbow to his hip

  • @omarandresgormazpartal9108

    great video!! ....frequently when I get the americana with larger guys they sweep me easily. how can I avoid that?

    • @TheGrapplingAcademy
      @TheGrapplingAcademy  Před 6 lety +1

      If they are much larger, americanaas can be troublesome. However, I tend to get big guys on their side facing me and then Americana them preventing a roll as they are not flat. (-: Coach Tom Davey

    Hey coach, last rolling session I got a big dude kimura´ing and americana´ing me from inside my guard, I got very frustrated with that, obviously. What can I do to avoid next time?

    • @SkepticalAaron
      @SkepticalAaron Před 6 lety +6

      Alvaro Wang if they Americana you, take their back. You can also armbar or Americana them back.

      Good question, u try to feet on hips and extend yourself so he can't reach?
      Or sweep him?

    • @adrianb6193
      @adrianb6193 Před 6 lety +2

      I personally try to not play bottom game if guy is heavy.

    • @pipokatz
      @pipokatz Před 6 lety +2

      I tried pushing him away extending my hips (and of course he was big enough that he still had plenty of room to reach for my arms) but I was so afraid to open the guard and have him pass and smash me that I admit I did not try feet on hips. About not playing bottom, when the dude is big I cannot not play bottom, they just ragdoll me until I end up on bottom and I am lucky if I get to play guard hahahahahah
