man the internet really lacks enough appreciation for the band . I'm so glad to find this video
Thanks!
Don’t say they’ve disbanded! They’re on hiatus.
Also, “The Trap”. Perfection
haha
a veeery long hiatus
Joe hawley literally said in an interview that they will make a 3rd album and will tour again czcams.com/video/pGZE4nYci7U/video.html
Yes, The Trap is my favorite song by Tally Hall! Not enough people like it.
hopium
i think they might one day reunite but with the joe stuff it might either be a while or never
Tally Hall has been a favorite since the pre-MMMM days, when they were releasing random videos on the Internet like the "What You Don't Know" series. Loved the original release of MMMM and wasn't on-board with all the remix/re-recording changes made for the Atlantic re-release. "Good & Evil" hooked me immediately on release, despite its decidedly more mature sound.
Joe Hawley (red tie, creative force behind "Hawaii: Part II") also released a solo album, "Joe Hawley Joe Hawley." Rob Cantor (yellow tie) went on to achieve further viral Internet fame through "Shia LaBeouf," "Christian Bale Is At Your Party," and "Perfect," the last of which (minus the celebrity impressions) features on his solo album, "Not A Trampoline."
They had so many great videos back in the day. 15 seconds of Bora and other series were so funny. Oh well, no sense living in the past.
Rob's viral videos were pretty funny, too.
Hawaii Part II slaps, i love Isle Unto Thyself and Labyrinth
@@TheWither129people say labyrinth is the worst on the album, which is understandable given its sudden tone difference and and lyrics of the song. but i really think everything else on the song is so good, vocals and melody is perfect and it stands out of the album.
@@uhigldasdtyuiosagjk labyrinth is a song i really like too!
Sad Fact: Joe (red tie) and Zubin (blue tie) got mugged and beat up during the filming of Good Day. Joe bled from the mouth, and Zubin got a black eye. There's a picture somewhere of the aftermath.
Yikes, that's terrible, Patrick!
an joe got inspired to write a somg about it, "rotary park is safe after dark"
Spring and storm doesn't have a music video and I AM PISSED THAT WAS MY FAVORITE SONG
Such a great song. "The sky is deep and dark and eternally high"
“Wouldn’t listen in one sitting” Dude, I listen to this album once a day.
Tally Hall still remains a game-changer for me, and remains my favorite band of all time.
They have some hardcore fans. You sound like one of them! :)
@@MakeWeirdMusic You'd better believe it!

I’ve been fan of these guys since they started in my college days. Completely underrated group - brilliantly creative. Thanks so much for this video!
Agreed. Fantastic group. Underrated.
You wouldn't understand the validation I feel when a respected person praises one of my favorite lyrical/visual pieces
Very cool
You have definitely performed a service by introducing me to yet another band that it’s unlikely I would have otherwise heard. Thank you! Stay well.…
You're welcome
Been a big fan of Tally Hall for a long while (since I was in middle school!).
I feel like the main thing that makes Tally Hall such a special band is how different the members were, taste-wise. Joe Hawley was a oddball experimentalist who dabbled in many genres (hip hop, folk, calypso, etc), Rob Cantor was a power pop/indie pop purist who listened to a looooot of Weezer (maybe some They Might Be Giants too), and Andrew Horowitz was a Brian Wilson-esque songwriter with a love for the twee and the absurd. All of these guys were heavily involved in the songwriting process, which created their weird, scatterbrained sound.
Tally Hall was incredible with making music videos. I really wish they made more for Good & Evil. The Trap and Out in the Twilight would’ve made amazing music videos.
Totally agree! I wish they'd make videos independently now, too.
fun fact: Zubin (blue tie) and Joe (red tye) got beat up and mugged while filming part of this music video, they then made a whole song about it (called rotary park)
oh HELL yeah i love Tally Hall! Joe Hawley is one of my favorite musicians of all time.
Really? Why’s that? I’ve only heard the stuff in this video. What am I missing?
He did a solo album and worked on a rather obscure one called "hawaii pt 2" that got really big a while back. Tracks like "the mind electric" or lyrical strange odysseys like those on the joe hawley solo album, are incredibly interesting.
I think Joe Hawley might actually be insane to some degree, and his stuff seems to verge the line for me between incredibly high class high writing quality pop music and outsider music in terms of deeper subject matter. Trying to make sense of "Bring her Along" makes my brain bend.
For god's sake the guy wrote a song where it first plays backward with one section that's normal, and then the song plays again forward and the feeling is the same across both plays of the song.
Hawaii Pt 2 (credited under ミラクルミュージカル for anonymity) on its own is an incredibly interesting and obscure in atmosphere and probably the most consistent thing I think anyone from Tally Hall has made in terms of an album.
On top of that you have his work with tally hall, tracks like Ruler of Everything, &, The whole world & You. (the demo and studio versions of those tracks feel very different) Tally Hall wasn't just Joe Hawley, but they were incredibly talented, eclectic and interesting.
There's songwriting feats all across those 2 albums, and several of their songs won the John Lennon Songwriting award, including this one.
I do think Tally Hall works better in individual songs, that's a fault of their quality as musicians honestly where their stuff just doesn't work together as full albums.
Sorry if this is a bit rambling.
yeah what he said
No worries about rambling. I mentioned Hawaii Pt 2 in the video. I haven't followed them terribly closely, but we listen to their music a lot. Glad they've got their true fans, though!
@@MakeWeirdMusic Neither Joe, nor the majority of Tally Hall and it's variety of side projects tend to be very prolific in terms of output and have around 1-2 albums per project. Unless you start diving deep into demos and the like it's not too deep. Every once and a while you might find a new branch (Waltz in E-Major, Op. 15 "Moon Waltz" by Cojum Dip is one of my favorites I discovered recently) but it's not actively evolving.
It was actually surprising to see this video since a few months ago I remember rewatching this video and thinking about the ludicrous amount of effort that must have gone into this and wondered if any content creator or journalist would've noticed this, let alone someone I am ALREADY FOLLOWING!
A little under a week ago I probably did similar to what you did, combed through the video at a slower speed, taking note of the ludicrous number of chances, background details, sketches and the many changes and the raw amount of effort that must have gone into it.
I don't know if you've seen/heard this yet, but if you want a good example of something similar to this video in terms of complexity and intrigue, check out "Variations on a Cloud" by ミラクルミュージカル which was released by the same project as Hawaii Pt 2, but NOT on the same album. I think it may have been a single, but I honestly have no idea how this was released. (Edit: It was initially given as a preorder bonus and then released as a free single, aww that's less mysterious.)
My theory is it was dropped onto music services with zero fanfare, in terms of construction it kind of reminds me of a pop music version of Starless by King Crimson, a callback to earlier works, a kind of farewell while at the same time wholly original. Warning: This may be wholly inaccurate.
I would highly recommend listening to it on its own before you watch the video which tries to make the meaning of the song far more explicit, but the way the song is constructed and there's all of these little callbacks across it to works you may have heard before that are just fascinating.

I’m a huge fan of them, and Good Day might be one of my favourite songs. I love watching the music video and try to find all the Easter eggs I didn’t catch before. It’s such a masterpiece
Yes, it's so good! Thanks Hibis

I discovered Tally Hall through a Ruler of Everything meme, and I started to check Tally Hall out more and more, and now I'm a huge fan
They were such a great band. They deserve their cult following :)
@@MakeWeirdMusic they really do, but it seems like they're never coming back together as a band again, that hiatus time has been way to long. It's like BFDIA, it's been put on hiatus, but it'll never come back, no matter how much we beg.
@@iateyourbread "It's like BFDIA, it's been put on hiatus, but it'll never come back, no matter how much we beg." That didn't quite age as well as you expected it to.
@@hexyellow9873 yeah...
I love tally hall alot and love this guy talking about it
I LOVE TALLY HALL
It’s crazy that despite only two / three albums three have over 400 songs including demos and variations of other songs
Awesome. Thanks for turning me on to this band!
You're welcome
Wait until he finds Joe Hawley Joe Hawley by Joe Hawley which first song was Joe Hawley Attacks and was released on the date Joe Hawley.
That's the most Joe Hawley Joe Hawley I've read since Joey Hawley.
I can go on forever talking about tally hall. It’s such a good band. If you like the more odd tally hall stuff, joe hawley’s personal music is amazing !
joe hawley is a genius
What makes you say that?

If you haven’t already, you should try listening to Joe Hawley’s: “Joe Hawley Joe Hawley” album. It’s a masterpiece

Welcome aboard! Thanks so much
3:48 i once listened to their diography like five or six times in one day 🤭

Good idea!
Good idea indeed
(Help im so late)
Hawaii Part II is one of the best albums ever made
It's very good!
TALLY HALL‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
So good
im planning to recreate parts of the music video cause i wanna do a cover of the song
i will recrate the first part and maybe the let us sing part
Wow, that'd be amazing, Larry!
I'm massively lyrically inclined and (mildly said) don't really care for the sound.
But I find that the creative geniuses behind both Tally Hall and their respected counterpart Miracle Musical (and solo projects) capture the attention with obscene sounds and lyrics. Which at a glance sound like non-sense, but when a little more attention is given to the words they sing, rather than how they sound, I find that they have more meaning than an average person will ever notice. Now Joe Hawley is especially known for his eloquent lyrical speech and writing style. His lyrics sound experimental, but are actually beautifullly poetic. It usually takes a dictionary and encyclopedia to fully understand however....
I really wanted to say that to people who will appreciate the art and know it, than those around me who wouldn't care for it. It has been on my mind for a while, but couldn't find the words to describe what I meant.
i listened to the beatles discogrphy lately
and yeah i agree that marvins is like abby road
my faviorte beatles album is let it be
can you do one on greener
this band got me into actually listening to music form other artists
That's great!
i listened to good and evil in one sitting its ok
i respect it and there's like 5 songs worth coming back to
everything else is allright
Good and Evil is very good, but Marvin's is better.
