    I said that like it was a personality quirk and not something that Joe has been suffering with for years. I'm sorry for that. I should have done more research instead of trying to be silly about something this serious. I know I can't do anything to undo that, but here are some research and donation links to organizations dedicated to the research of this debilitating mental illness.

    • @ShenDoodles
      @ShenDoodles Před rokem +13

      I think Marvin was saying that a lot of things referred to as nonsense are actually just misunderstood. Hawaii Part II is largely nonsensical lyrically, but those weird lyrics all make total sense with the right perspective. Nothing encapsulates this more than Go to Bed from Joe Hawley Joe Hawley. What sounds like sweet nonsense about bedtime is seemingly about hypnosis-induced group suicide.

    • @otterbacons
      @otterbacons Před rokem +2

      @@ShenDoodles that’s another way to interpret it. i’m not saying i disagree. we’re probably both right. tally hall in reality is far too complex for one person to truly understand, and i think that’s the point. some is nonsense, some is really dark. there’s truly no way to tell.

    Random Fact: In The Whole World and You, the reason why the lyrics say "Sharing *sotries*" instead of "Sharing stories" is because Andrew kept on misspelling the word stories, so he just went with sotries.

    In terms of complexity and sheer music theory, TME would take the dub for me personally. The way it combines electronic music with baroque techniques (yes, really) is borderline cathartic. In terms of, y‘know, actually being able to listen to the song normally, I agree that Sea Major is the better choice here.

    Aight I'm gonna go out on a limb, and attempt to defend the lines in Labyrinth you called out lol. So Labyrinth as an entire song, following The Mind Electric, represents a descent into insanity, right? The person involved is lost in a mass of hallucinations and lost in circles of their own thoughts. So in this state of hallucinations, it makes sense that people who were significant in this person's life would repeatedly show up, right? So him talking about his "ex-girl" and "next girl" is a way of showing the scattered thoughts and experiences of this person as their mental state devolves.
    Just my own interpretation though, and I can certainly understand why you don't like those lines lmao. This was a really fun and well put together video though. Whether I agreed with you takes or not, I can appreciate the reasoning you used for everything. And I think we can both agree that The Mind Electric is a goddamn masterpiece

      My thoughts were that it was more of a reflection on all the pointless things we focus on throughout our life, due to how the song references things like a constant fear of failure,girls etc. I think that this is all brought into context when right after in time machine he reflects on all the time he has wasted and wants to live things back again with what he knows now

      this is very obvious if you have ever just listened to the album in order. imo it's an example of a great song transition, because both intro/outro of the respective songs still work on their own, but together they flow together amazingly. whereas good day into greener is terrible, because the transition is literally just good day ending with the start of greener, making both songs sound extremely weird unless they are played one after another. i also dislike pink floyd songs for this reason, almost all of them have terrible transitions that don't follow this rule, making the only enjoyable experience just listening to the entire album.

    Yeah that's because simon has dementia bc of what happens in the mind electric
    He thinks his girlfriend is still alive but left him, gag that continues in time machine
    Fun fact, in time machine simon has a lucid moment when he starts repeating "having time alone" and his imaginary time machine breaks down for some seconds
    But it doesnt stay that way and goes back to the dementia state

    Never meant to know isn’t about lost relationships. It’s about a guy accepting the fact that there are things about the universe he’ll never know; and he takes solace in that fact. He accepts that he will die and be forgotten, but the things he did will persist and he will know he lived a good life when he dies. Still the second best song, though.
