Again, another great game break down! I'm seeing some changes I need to make to improve my play. Very helpful and much appreciated. Looking forward to the next one!
So helpful to see the breakdown of position, shot selection/strategy of the players, scenarios many of us face. Your explanations/comments help immensely as we (newbies) try move our play from "just getting ball back" level to the position/shot selection/strategy part of PB. The visor lady also stood 4 feet back when receiving serve which seemed to invite drive 3rds after her return
Thanks. Love this type of analysis. Would like to see some video around the machine gun hitting of reflex volleys after a flick off a dink. This rapid back and forth is some of the most exciting and challenging play. Touch on how to be ready, paddle positioning, where to aim, how to reset and anything else you think is important. Thanks
Nice videos and analysis. One recommendation to simplify things for you when playing these match videos is to use keyboard shortcuts to control CZcams playback. Spacebar will pause/play the video. "" will slow down, speed up the videos so you can more easily control playback speed. It will save a lot of mouse clicks and dealing with the playback speed window. "," and "." can move you backward or forward a frame if you are paused, if you ever need to do that.
Thanks for the playback speed tip, I didn't know that! I already have shortcuts to switch between the mouse and highlighter on screen since everything is happening in real time. I'll have to practice adding the arrows for playback speed mid video as well. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching the video!
Great videos and explanations. So helpful. This is great coaching in how to know what shot to make. Regarding the 3rd shot drop.. I was told that if the return of serve lands deep, then try to drop the 3rd shot, but if it lands between the kitchen line and mid court, you should drive it....What do you suggest? Or is it really assessing where your opponent is on the court land that decides your shot..
Hey, thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like the content. Unfortunately, my wife and I lost our son last summer and I kind of fell of the map as far as pickleball and content goes. Might try and upload again soon.
False. Players at a high level both have the ability to poach, even in mixed doubles. Especially in this scenario when they are losing badly, they need mix it up. They could get a slower drive from the other player, or she may try a drop. The male player would be unable to poach if his partner doesn't hit a good shot anyways. Happy to entertain watching any analysis you have to back your claim there.
@@precisepickleball3279 You chose who would you rather avoid stationed at the net Vivion David or Dekel Bar. Big tall people with long reaches can be intimidating at the net. I guess they could have tried, but I do not think it would have worked.
@@dalevoigt8612 for the 3rd shot I think it's more important to return to the person struggling with their drop, not the person who I want to avoid coming to the net. With high level players, long arms or not, they drop the ball effectively so they can come to the net anyways. Just doesn't seem like a good enough justification to keep returning to him in my opinion anyways.
@@precisepickleball3279 Because the left player was have trouble getting established at the net she should have been hitting her balls cross court deep with a slower loft, giving her more time to get to the line.
I want to thank you for honoring my request so quickly. You pinpointed many things that could help all of us in our games. If I can make one more request to analyze : 4.5 or 5.0 men's double match Appreciate your style and thoughts.
Sorry, I thought this was going to be a little higher quality match. I'm actually doing one for another commenter that's a men's 5.0 doubles match. I think you may find more value in that one. Should be released by Monday. Thanks so much for returning to watch!
@@precisepickleball3279 Nothing to be sorry about. Your points were honest and helpful. Sometimes we play like 4.5s and other times we play not so high. You can always learn if you have an open mind. On the other hand it is easy for people to criticize. It's called "Pickleball" not "Prefect ball". The team that has the least unforced errors most of the times wins. This was proved again with your offering. Very helpful. Please keep them coming.
@@harryhutchins6754 amen to that! People often get too caught up in ratings. At the end of the day we're all just trying to have fun and better our game. Even if playing in a tournament, your rating will sort itself out over time whether you're having am amazing day or a bad day.
At 11:09 you said to "Always see the ball into your paddle." I'm fairly new to the game and just assumed that it was better to look at where you're trying to hit the ball. Can you give some explanation of why this is important?
The reason the close team might be returning to the guy in white is that he might be a notorious poacher. Returning to the poacher prevents them from getting to the NVZ quickly so they can't dominate the net as effectively and is one of the better strategies for dealing with them. Might be why they keep sending his way on their returns
Also, the far team is stacking, not switching to cause confusion. They want to keep the man's forehand in the middle so he can apply more pressure. You'll notice that when they are serving on an odd number they will both be on one end of the court to keep Mr. White shirt on the left square
16:15 you mention that the guy in white was backed off of the line as a negative aspect of how he is playing the point, but he backed up to get a better angle to hit a ball that was landing near the back of his feet. The guy in white has been fairly consistent with staying at the NVZ and only backed up to not hit a poor shot. I apologize if my messages are coming off as aggressive or critical. Just wanted to point a few things out as to why the players are behaving in certain ways if I recognize their behavior
No offense but - especially - the lady on the left, is she a true 4.5 player? I'd say she's more like 3.0/3.5 than 4.5 as 4.5 players that I know seldom make mistakes as she did here. Perhaps she's having an off day, but her habitual/preferred location on the court tells me otherwise. My two cents. Once again, great video!
I think this was an off game for her. It was actually game 2 of a best of 3, and she played much better the first match. I don't want to be a rating stickler, but there certainly wasn't a whole lot of touch in this match like I would like to see at the 4.5 level. I'm definitely up for reviewing which ever matches that viewers want me to review!
@@precisepickleball3279 czcams.com/video/zQiXI-BlX_g/video.html These guys seem to know what they are doing. Would you care to review this match? I'd love to hear your feedback! Thank you.
Saying the far team are drivers as if it were a bad thing. They’re doing the right thing. Driving the ball to the woman in the visor is the right thing to do. They also could play 3rd shot drops if the guy in green keeps getting out of place. But if you are the stronger team you should drive the ball every time. Especially when they don’t come to the net. Dropping the ball invites your opponent to the net. The way I explain it is like thins if you were in a match against 5yr olds. $10k on the line are you going to 3rd shot drop or even dink noooooo but if you were playing against Ben Johns and ALW are you going to drive it every time noooo. You play aggressive against weaker players and conservative against stronger or equal lvl.
Another thing 4.0 you should be learning stacking. 4.5 shouldn’t have been a question weather they stacked it’s definitely easy when you don’t score any points. The hug at the end was weird kind of signals the final match which would be weird because it definitely wasn’t final level match. Idk tho.
There wasn't much finesse I agree. I usually search around for some of the videos that have a decent angle to review. Happy to review any matches you find that are solid 4.5 level. Thanks for watching by the way!
I liked this video much more than your first one - nice, brief explanation at each step, appropriate pauses, all good!
Great breakdown. These teams looked more like 3.5s

It is common practice to keep the player who is more likely to poach back by hitting the return of serve to them.
