I have always felt that "Innuendo" was written as a farewell album, and this heartbreaking video really only confirmed that for me. The band was trying so hard to act like everything was fine, but you can hear the uncertainty in their voices. The moment where Roger admitted to wanting to "Take a break musically..." He was planning ahead, knowing that he and the band would soon need a break from their adoring fans to there for Freddie.
Brian has said that "The Show Must Go On" was written to reflect how Freddie must have felt at this point in their lives, and I think it does a great job at that. "These Are the Days of Our Lives" is incredibly nostalgic, it's somber tones perfectly representing the "glad it happened, sad it's over" point of view.
Over all, this album is a true masterpiece. Roger was right when he said it was one of the best things Queen had ever done; it is truly so bittersweet.

This post is for real Queen fans only:
I think the most understated, underrated and least appreciated bassist in all Rock 'n' Roll is John Deacon. Queen could not have done what they did without him. He laid a foundation like no other could. He lent them the platform they leapt from. I can toss out some names: Paul McCartney, the originalist (he both defined and perfected the style); Jermaine Jackson, the grooviest; Bootsie Collins, the funkiest; Stu Hamm, the futurist; John Patitucci, the jazziest; Billy Sheehan, the technichalist; Stanley Clark, the granddaddyist of them all.
All that shit put together hardly holds a candle to 'another one bites the dust'. So pure. Look it up, listen again, every 2 measures he changes the riff, never plays the exact same 8 notes in a row twice throughout but displays the illusion of doing so constantly.
Simplicity and complexity wound together. Then look up 'dragon attack', where he straight lays it down. After that, listen to anything by Queen and try to tell me you can't hear John holding it all together.
Best R&R vocalist ever? Freddie, duh. The queen.
Greatest, most influential guitarist alive? Well, that would probably be Brian.
Coolest singing drummer? Let's see, there's Phil and Don and that guy from the Dead, but no.
It must be Roger because I really am in love with my car. (I got a classic 4x4.)
    Greatest bassist, then?
    Kidding? Do the math...
    =John Deacon

No, AZT was already out, and that was likely one of the things that did him in. The song 'I'm going slightly mad' is effectively a testament to the damage it does to the brain and results in people losing track of their thoughts and inability to coherently express and remember things, among many other direct effects. AZT was a catastrophe, which you can easily see if you read the medical literature, but doctors saw only what they wanted to see, and pharmaceutical companies were happy to supply that and similarly toxic drugs. Even Freddie's own doctor admitted years later that the early medications were 'a mistake'. At Thabo Mbeki's presidential AIDS commission, both dissenting and orthodox sides agreed unanimously that AZT had unnecessarily killed a lot of people. As for Magic Johnson, he started taking it and rapidly had to give up basketball, and then after a while suddenly got better and remained well since. His ability to perform like he subsequently did would just not have been possible while taking AZT - it is absolutely crippling. The only ones who survived the early days were those who DIDN'T take AZT. Hence the saying, "There's no magic in AZT, and no AZT in Magic". I know of one guy who was on an AZT trial, and concluded that it was killing him, but it was psychologically very difficult to stop taking it when doctors had said it would save his life - and that's what many people find: If a doctor says you must take this to save your life, it's very hard to disobey, and many people were not able to stop taking it right up to their deaths. But he did, and he's now pretty sure he's the only one that survived from that group.

The videos are still VERY relevant today. They are not dated. Never got to see Queen live with Freddie. But I did get to see Brian May at Hammerjacks in Baltimore Md. Great show. I’ve been a fan since the 70 s (and took a lot of crap for it too here in America, but NOW attitudes have changed ). I will never forget a girl I worked with asked who my fav band was and I said Queen. She gave me a bunch of shit. Freddie was flamboyant but in a classic way. Not feathers and glitter. Even if Freddie had lived, I don’t think he would have made it so open he was gay like AL does. Freddie had way too much class. Besides, he would have never given the press the overtly gay look AL gives because Freddie’s life was so private.

Jim Beach’s portrayal in the film is exactly as you described him in your lovely words. Ever present, always in their corner, always protecting and shepherding Queen through every iteration and every challenge. I LOVE 💕 the scene where he stands in the wings with Prenter and Mary during that “BoRhap Live In Concert” scene and sings along as the song ends. Well played onscreen portrayal of who Jim Beach was and still is.

Love this mini-documentary! Can't believe I never saw it before. I like that Roger went back to Ludwig drums for this album. I always thought they were a key component to his signature style/sound. The Yamaha set sounded ok, but a bit flat to me. You can definitely hear a difference, a very classic sound on this 'back to the classic Queen' album. Innuendo is brilliant!

Ludwig drums are the classic sound of Queen, the best, Yamaha set lacks of meat.

he only used the yamaha recording custom (9000 series) for the magic tour; no album is recorded with the yammies

Amazing Album 👌 I always think how Freddy and the band put everything they had into it knowing it was going to be there last together. Show must go on hits me every time.

Wonderful video, and I thank you for it. I am in my 50's and grew up with Queen. Our high school band played so many of their songs. They are a big part of the soundtrack of my life. I will always and forever love them. I miss Freddie so very much. I like Adam, but Freddie Mercury is really irreplaceable. As Freddie sang it, show must go on.
