Alas...we do not have local gov't with local taxes and a fixed portion of the national budget for development. So becoming a city is just an empty badge. But the political and administrative overhead would be costly. They would definitely benefit.
Hmmm, I am not sure what constitutes a city for jamaica, but for most developed countries, some of the criteria are full comprehensive hospital, fully resourced police service, courthouses, tax office . Does Ocho Rios or Negril meet those criteria?
The government needs to stop siphoning off the tourist dollars to Kingston and develop the source of the US dollars. Why build a new parliament building so that politicians can be comfortable while the major revenue generator of the country is neglected. How does that make sense?
