Shift and close doesnt make a lot of sense in europe since the lanes are way smaller.. creating from the slot is borderline impossible from U18 and up so I‘d rather deny the pass 1 spot away

This does exactly nothing to prevent the passing. Also the help defense will loose their opponent in a slit second, when the off drives.
The point of this defends is not about preventing passing but to stop their drive. Is not easy to defence a pro team or a team with good passing but you can stop their drive and their shot if you are fast enough to cover each other.
You know more about defense than an NBA coach
