I would prefer weakside BIG flash to the Top of Key, off-center = ballscreen is supposed to get the ballhandler free to score. 😀😀😀
I hate ballscreens that are not meant to score.

Does anyone have an idea why the screener always has to pop out ? I don't see why a roll into the key would be inappropriate here. I would appreciate your insight, thanks !

kind of a late reply lol but by looking at it, the offense seems to be a 4 out 1 in offense, with that being said having the screener pop allows for better spacing. Also the screener who is popping, can then become the duck in man, so when the ball gets reversed the duck in man who was posting for the ball then sets the screen, after he sets the screen he pops as well and it keeps going.

Imho ball screen offense is always a rock/paper/scissors situation. The screener & ballhandler should always do what increases the chances of an easy score/goodshot. This means that if the defense hatches on a ballscreen, the screener could screen the ball and then go hard to the basket in a flash for a lob or bouncepass. If the defense switches the screener should roll and make himself available for the pass into an easy scoring oppertunity (mismatch if your player is tall). The screener could pick & pop when he/she want to create space for the drive to the basket and give the ballhandler an extra outlet and/or an easy jumpshot or 3-pointshot for himself even. etcetcetc. That is why trainers could/should teach the rock/paper/scissors regardig pick & roll and increase basketball inteligence, screening & taking a screens alot more. Even at adult level, keep training screens and taking screens every month orso, because most will be terribly inefficient at both. Ballscreen offense seems the best and easiest offense available today against man2man and the easiest to teach, because you force the defenders to make a choice and your players you can counter the defensive choices with the individual choices they will make. Your ballscreenoffense will be undefendable if your players have the skill to execute rock/paper/scissors properly. Next to that, if another coach comes along with a different offensive idea's, they will still probably intergrate pick& roll somewhere, so the lessons taught are always usefull in their basketballcareers.
Back in the day John Stockten and Karl Malone had an unbelievable +75 versions of pick & roll (pro's nowadays probably even have more I assume) and it has been statistically proven that out of every pick&roll, 25% good stuff happens (score/foul/goodshots/etc). If you can manage to play 3 or 4 pick & rolls per offense, you should be able to win almost every game by large numbers (in theory). This because your players will be too efficient with the choices they make and all these choices are made in the moment and can not be heavily influenced by the opponents coaching staff because your players will adapt (coaches can not really influence individual defensive basketball inteligence during a game, which can only be adressed during training imo). Do not get me wrong, I also like screening away from the ball or mixing it up, but in the end pick & roll can get the best out of all your players and should be a key ingredient in your offense.

there are many forms of the continuity offense. some run rolls, some run pops, shoots, rejections of the screen. depends on personnel. this is fiba, so pick and pops are what they do.

The low post scoring Center/PF should stay at the bottom =
Your 3-point shooting BIG should be at the elbow = respected as a jumpshoter by defenders.
