YT48 Surah Al-Kahf (Surah 18): Did God Order Al Khidr to Kill a Young Boy? by Dr. Hany Atchan

- In this segment we deal with a perennial accusation against the Quran, based on Surah Al-Kahf (Surah 18) with regards to the question: Did God order the killing of a young boy simply because God feared this boy to grow up to be rebellious and disbeliever? The basic traditional story is repugnant and unacceptable. Our Quranic methodology allows a simple and elegant answer that refutes all the false stories about Al-Khidr.

Quran Translation and Commentary by Dr. Hany Atchan
"So we desired that 'their' lord give 'them'...Who's the 'their' or the 'them' that 'we' is referring to. You skipped over that part. If the parents are part of the 'we' shouldn't it say 'our' lord give 'us'? Please explain some more...
Great Question... See Verse 7:129: Moses is talking, but uses "Your lord" instead of "our lord." This "splitting" is a part of the locution of the Israelite community of which Moses was part. ANd this "splitting" is common throughout the Quran. Regards
Their because it's their son.
"Their" would be the parents just bc they are the ones who will get another child. They, all 3 in the group (if that's the meaning of "we") could desire that Allah gives the couple ("them") another child. Problem is I don't know Arabic grammar but it still seems to make logical sense. Maybe the Arabic needs more of an indepth study.

@@MarvelousQuran It's like an Army Officer is telling the soldiers, ''Oh soldiers,Your King has asked you to do this do that today. So we (alltogather) going to obey our King''. The wise man killed the Young Man with his parents. But the next child of parents were givent to the couple by their lord. The Wise Man wasn't part of this next child though the lord is also his lord. It was the parents and their lord, in fact everyone's lord who would give them the next child.
Yes, you are right that the word “we” “feared” could not be Allah included.
As Allah is All Knowing (certainty), why would Allah need to be doubtful with “we feared” - answer is staring in our face.

@@MarvelousQuran Your view is also held by some of the Mutazila.
@Abdullah Rifat Muntasir You say: "Your view is also held by some of the Mutazila"... NOT TRUE!. The Mu3tazila did not have a Quranic methodology, extracted from within the Quran... They used "reason" as their primary guide. We do NOT accept reason as the primary guide.
Jazakalla Dr Hany Atchan, and may Allahh Ta'ala bless you for your efforts explaining the fallacy of Tafseers.
Dr. Hany, it is mind blowing. The way you solved this centuries-long misinterpretation is just unbelieveable. I am amazed! This is Dr Anis from Finland. I am also doing some research on Quran and would be really happy if I can be of any assistance to your mission!

Shukran Dr. Atchan! I have always thought that translations of Allah SWT's words are too mundane and based on our understanding of Arabic but understanding Allah's words must be preceded by a serious attempt to understand Allah SWT. Your theory of Abrahamic locution makes a lot of sense!!

Subhanallah great explanation thanks you so much
Thanks for this informative and impactful video Dr. Hany. Whenver I read about Al-Khidr in tafseer, I questioned the arbitrariness involved in this incidence. In some books of tafseer, it is also said that Al-Khidr is an angel in the form of man. And this has given legitimacy for so many sufi orders across India for performing corrupt, malicious and forbidden practices in Islam. But now, Alhumdulillah, I have got my doubts cleared. Thanks.

I'm afraid this explanation is incomplete. There's still missing information. The boy has had to do something that calls for execution. Leading your own parents astray is not a punishable crime of that caliber. Or is it?
@ Selim Caliskan
Why the young man was murdered will be discussed in a later segment. The point of this segment was only: Did God order the killing? The answer is: No!
thanks for this informative video.

Beautfully explained!!, Allah does not fear and desire! Humans do! Allah is MAGNIFICENT!!!!!
The arabic word خشْي refers to a type of fear, but when its written as خشِينا it refers to a feeling of being belittled and the hope of not being underestimated.

Sir, U cleared one of the questions i had on my mind for a long time ! thanks
Glad to hear that
Brother, this story may well have happened after Musa (peace be upon him) had already crossed the red sea with the children of Israel and the Pharaoh (Ramses II) had already been dead. Since these stories had to do with showing knowledge that Musa (peace be upon him) would not be able to cope up with killing an evil young man does not require much knowledge. It could be that Allah gave this man (Al Khidr) some knowledge of the future. Allah knows best.
You are correct. Moses is telling the story after crossing the sea, but the events are about what happened when he was young, before he left to Madyan. Great observation. Regards
@@MarvelousQuran , what is the lesson to obtain from this story?
Moses had these 3 situations happened in his life:
He was thrown into the river. He killed a man. He helped young women.
What is the point to repeat this situations in this story?
When i was child my parents give me book titled by stories of prophets. There i found Kijir killed a boy, not a young man. Whatever that was misinterpreted. And that time & later whenever i recalled this story i was slightly confused that how could a child be accused for crime & moreover he even had not committed that crime.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
Glad that we are helping in alleviating childhood trauma :). Thank you
Ameen. Beautiful
I always kind of wondered if the son was maybe still pre puberty, so in this case, Allah wanted to spare the parents of the pain of his future rebellion knowing that he would burn in hell. So I always kind of thought the son being killed was a kind of bittersweet type of mercy for his own benefit in the future, as some parents on yawm al Qiyamah will most likely wish that their kids had been killed at a young age so they can escape the torment of their rebellion. Idk. Just my 2 cents.
I also understood it that way of course i read without tafsir so my knowledge is limited.
if this happened today...that knowledgeable man could go to prison...especially with that reasoning..😃
Tq Dr hany
Yes ur explaination is acceptable
In number 4 (Justification), if the term 'we' is for the knowledgeable man and two parents, who is meant with the word 'them' (make them suffer)? If it means the parents, it seems to me that sentence is not correct. Please reply.
Amen, masha allah.
Thank you for clearing up this issue. Very nice.
Glad it was helpful!
The basic and fundamental message Allah sent down to his prophets is tawheed. That is worshipping Allah alone without associating partners with him and knowledge of Allah’s names and attributes
Subhaan`Allah, my brain just boosted with vitamins.
Khidr AS and his 3 actions.
1) Accept little loss in starting, to save yourself from big loss later, as holing the boat.
2) Ki ll the evil in it first stages, before it develops and harms you in future.
3) Take precautionary measure before; so that it keeps you save in future, as building wall on treasure or property.
The verse did not said how He ki lled the boy?? 18;74/80
So the boy died because of his just presence......
And use of plural form as فَخَشِينَا and فَأَرَدْنَا Means along with Khidr there was an invisible entity with him.
And the Gulam His parents are Momins thus we were afraid (Khidr and Angle) disgrace his parents and became rebel and disbeliever 17;80
It means he did not stran gled or shot or Stab bed the boy, but he has angle force with him that does taking of soul as Allah SWT regularly collect the souls of Humans..
And the boy which was not of Paradise became boy of paradise by their action..
فَأَرَدْنَا أَن يُبْدِلَهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُ زَكَاةً وَأَقْرَبَ رُحْمًا ﴿٨١﴾
Thus we (khidr and Angle) decided their lord replace him by one who is better than him and eligible for mercy. 18;81
The moral of the story is that if our children died in childhood that is better for them and for us
as Allah Knows the best
As Salamu Aleikum. This is very interesting . I've always wondered who are the " WE" in this Sura.
Salamun Alaykum
"WE" refers to the parents and the knowledgeable Man.
We is plural of respect. Not plural of numbers.
The knowledgeable man talking about himself in the honor ‘we’

سلام عليكم..
Allah Is Able to Create As He Want..
So.. Obviously its a message here.
Also Its Matters we don't understand but Trust Allah..
So Allah tells us that his parents were believers and then tells us that they hired a hit man to kill their son and this was somehow a person given Knowledge above Moses which Moses needed to learn from...? Is that coherent?
And Allah said in Sura nisaa, whoever opposes the messenger after the guidance has been made clear upon them, and he takes a path other than the believers, we turn him to he has turned to and we throw him in hell... The believers here are the first believers, the companions of the prophet
@BJJ Black Belt You added "The believers here are the first believers, the companions of the prophet", as a condition that Allahh did not specify in the original aya...This is the fault in the argument that Imam Ash-Shaafi3i gave when he was cornered into coming up with a Quranic justification for Ijmaa3.... The Quran did not include this condition!
And therefore, you conclude that only those people who were with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were "Mu'minum" believers, and others are not!!! But you forget another aya (4:94): Don't not say to anyone who offers you peace "You are not a believer!"
Your argument is the way of those who want to fragment the Quran الذين جعلوا القرءان عضين
Wake up my brother (I am assuming that you are a Muslim)... This channel will help you and help the Ummah
Marvelous Qur`an, I have been with a month. I liked effort of explanation of the quran. very interesting and educational manner by Dr Hany. However, the question posted someone is same as one was thinking. The question is Quranist? if it is we can still learn see the truth or not truth..I must say every Q have an answer sir.Thanks.
Those who don't want to think and who don't want to consider the evidence choose to label this person or that person. It's their way of sticking to the lazy path, instead of directly engaging the words of the Quran.
As far as the Hadith and the "Quranist", I use the Hadith in many areas of research and I consider the Hadith collections very valuable tools for understanding. I will have a video on this topic soon insha Allahh. Keep watching
Its just a marvellous as it keep expending with the time. ماشااللہ

Hello just stumbled upon your work. May Allah bless you with more knowledge .Have you considered the topic regarding Ism e Azam or the greatest name of Allah by which asked He gives. Hadhits often shed light on few names but I am keen as to what you can come up with. There is a chapter in Quran wherein the man got the throne of the Queen within seconds. JazakAllah waiting for a response. May Allah bless us all

MASHA ALLAH BARAKALLAH FEEK ,
You too.
This explanation raises many questions and increases confusion, if this was the case then why Musa alaihi Salaam complained. All humans are under Sharia law would this be allowed with out a trial. According to other similar stories in Quran this knowledgeable person was not a human he was a angel obedient to Allah. This story is revealed by Allah Almighty in His last testament to demonstrate how he runs the affairs of the world. The lesson and the guidance for us is if something tragic happens there is something good and better for us hidden init that we cannot perceive and prevents greater loss. That we should be patient and put trust in Allah.
My brother! You are making so many assumptions on the basis that the story that the books of Tafseer told us was correct!
It was not! We will have a chance to explain more in the new future insha Allahh
@@MarvelousQuran This explanation is not based on any of the Tafsirs. It is based on Bani Israel and Musa alaihi Salaam stories mentioned many times in Quran. As everybody knows Bani Israel were persecuted by Ale Firoun. Bani Israel complained to Musa alaihi Salaam he advised establish Salat be patient and pray to Allah Almighty. Allah All-Wise assured Musa alaihi Salaam by demonstrating how he runs world's affairs and there is a wisdom and something good behind every unfortunate event. Similar to Hazrat Ibrahim alaihi Salaam in Surah Al-Baqrah were Allah demonstrates how he will bring dead to alive by four different birds. Also in same Surah Hazrat Uzair alaihi Salaam when he passes by a destroyed town. If one keeps whole of Quran specially stories of Bani Israel the purpose behind this story comes clear. Furthermore this angel did not eat or offered food to Musa alaihi Salaam and his companion. All other explanations don't clear all confusions and further raise many questions. Jewish narrations are misleading. Jazakallah khairan.
Thank you Dr. Hany. One question. After your explanation, I find it hard to relate his other doing like breaking the ship and rebuilding a wall to this matter in this specific aya. In his other doing, he seems like he did good deeds.
Can you please explain that too?
Insha Allahh we will have a special segment in the future for the full story of Mussa, including this story in Surah Al-Kahf.

@@MarvelousQuran @ i also confuse abt the story return of issa plus this dajjal story
Very plausible interpretation. When ever I read or hear these verses on the killing of the innocent boy, it scared the hell out of me. Now I know. The fact that the parents and the man plotted the killing because of his ungodly behaviour make sense.
Alhamdulillah
(You changed your screen name to Sword of Allah)
@@MarvelousQuran yes Dr. I changed name and picture😁
Salam alaikum, can you make a video about the people who worshipped the Cow(sura albaqara) Traditional understanding is that the ones who didnt worship the cow were to kill the ones who did. But to be honest I don't understand that.
Your efforts are appreciated.
The youth was murdered not by single man but a group of men of the town including the man khilir.we desired means the murdrers desired .Allah knows.
In surah al-Kahf, it clearly refers to one person doing the killing, not a group
Ahadees are also direct knowledge that has been given to Prophet Muhammed ﷺ by Allah ﷻ So any explanation given by Prophet Muhammed ﷺ for the stories of Quran will be also knowledge given to him by Allah. We should be careful when u make some statements..
Also i dont think its good idea to be refuting all the Scholars and thinking all of sudden a person knows better than anyone else..
Just like sheikh said, he thinks its so obvious then do u think they did not understand well.. those scholars who spent night and day in the service of deen..
i think it requires more research and better explanation..
there are places in Quran where Allah ﷻ said, u did not do it rather we did it..
فلم تقتلوهم ولكن اللّه قتلهم
وما رميت إذ رميت ولكن اللّه رمى
Also if u look at previous Aya’s it does not show as if he previously planed these acts.. while they were traveling they came across this young man..
Its not like he had previously met his parents and they had already planned this..
Khizer was acting solely the knowledge Allah ﷻ had bestowed upon him..
This was the test of knowledge anyway.. thats the lesson Allah was teaching Musa AS..
Respectfully disagree
The parents were not involved because they are described in the verse as believers, how can believers give their approval to kill their son just because they fear him ? Anyway i agree that Allah is not included in the WE because of the word fear, Allah fearing ?
Wow 👍👍👍👍👍 nice brother 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
