Salaamun Alaykum Dr. Hany, I’m a level one Arabic student to improve my understanding of the Divine message. However, you brought to my attention meaning of أَتْبَعَ which is clearly explained in the Arabic text as a form IV verb. For days I was struggling with the traditional translation “he followed” in our Quran to your given meaning “to have others follow”, when my husband showed how to interpret this derived verb. I do not follow your explanation blindly, but checkout evidence. When your explanation is different, I have so far always successfully connected your findings with evidence. I’m very fortunate that I have come across your research and interpretation in my lifetime. May Allah keep guiding us to interpret and apply message of Quran.

This makes perfect sense to me alhamdulillaah. This warning of the 'threat' to a muslim and muslim ummah is so alive. Muslim is encouraged to read this surah at least every week. After a long struggle and unaddressed queries of many terms in the Quran now been relieved and felt this is divine. Allaahu akbar against wrong interpretation. May Allaah protect and reward you Dr Hany, and forgive and reward the earlier scholars whose clean and pure in their intention. Maa shaa Allaah, it is so rewarding reading/learning alQuran this way, through your way taking me/us step by step, huruf by huruf, word by word, and ponder and question and wait and trust Allaah that He will guide us the answer/meaning. This way, huruf of the Quran would stick to my heart firmly. Alhamdulillaah alone who puts patience, brevity in your heart to shake the world, and I believe and pray Allaah will protect you and your family j team and us all. I pray, may Allaah puts more love to in our heart and our children's heart to learn alQuran this way, hence live by its teachings. May, sooner or latter, this becomes a channel or institution that gathers others similar effort to work together/synergize to revisit and apply this divine method of understanding the Quran. Thanks and jazaakumullaah akhiy Dr Hany. Alhamdulillaah

What I understood when I read this ayah is that, when a person standing on the sea shore and watching the sun setting he feels that the sun is setting in the sea because Quraan says ' they found it' setting in the sea, it speaks about their views, their feelings. This is the beauty of the Quraan.

Any way Mr Zol lost one of his eyes because he looked at the sun for a long time. They say one of the reason of blindness is looking at sun without a murky sunglasses."

I think the word wajadaha means that; that was what he( Zulqarnain) saw, or what it seems to be, in his perspective, NOT in Allah perspective.

To assume the sun means the messenger is NOT right. The verse is clear. The problem is that that people are taking it literally instead of understanding it's poetic rendition. All it means is that the messenger(Dhul Qarnain) arrived at the place of murky waters at sunset or maqrib. No stretching it further.

In fact sun doesn’t set anywhere, it is appeared to be set only… as per the relativity theory (physics)it is correct. All the above translations are true because they didn’t said that it sun sets in a murky water rather they said ‘it appeared to him or he found’.

So it is refering to what he saw, Zulqurnain. But thanks for further ellevoration, which I found very useful.

A Pakistani Islamic preacher Sahil Adeem also shed some light on this topic. He interprets that the events that happened with Zulqarnain are not of this world and belongs to some intergalactic journey of his. The setting of star (i.e sun) refers to the death of a star in a black hole and ways of travelling of Zulqarnain are the portals in which a person can travel with the speed of light and travel throughout galaxy

However, I still don't understand why the people where the sun was rising (people ready to accept the teachings and scriptures) were unprotected. Or no further info on them as the salient points have been made.
The third part of the story is about Gog and Magog. Waiting for that...
As you reminded a couple of time to guess who Dhul Qarnain would be, I began to think of Isa (AS). Now I am wondering if the last section of the surah Kahaf is linked to the first section (people of the cave).
I did read comments of other people before writing down mine. I found someone identifying Dhul Qarnain as a person of two epochs.

Why does the verses stated that Zul Qarnayn reaches a location where the messenger completes his mission first and then afterwards he reaches the location where his mission begins? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Hope you clarify this in the next video. Thank you.

I think its scientific translation is different, why dont we think zulqarnain was person who was given special powers to ascend or travel through the doors of sky which Allah mentioned multiple times in Quran, if we translate the meaning of سببا ways of those doors where angles come from سببا also used in surah yaseen in same context and عين حمئة a black hole, bcoz it looks like an eye its look like muddy eye, now proven sun revolves around black hole in milky way and rises and sets into there, so it could be a portal or way where zulqarnain faced yegog and megog, one more reason is that he also built copper and iron walls that doesnt make sense that he built huge mountain like walls on the earth obviously he would do on the earthy that must be some rocky and cement material, so conclusion is that this all happend on another world or earth, and yegog and megog are using some eletromegnetic forces to escape from that portal سببا, and copper and iron together exibhit electromegnetic properties, Allah say فتحت , its mean some kind of doors or portals will be opened for yegog and megog they will be freed and they will come through every ascendant...all this story looks like intergallectic story and yegog megog dont look like the creature of this earth, as there are 7 earths and heavens, Dajjal as well and Daabat ul Arz...باقي والله عالم

Shukern Dr. Hani. May you be rewarded for your tireless efforts. I am still trying to understand your innovative approach.
Allow me to comment on the topic of this lecture.
I agree with you that it is totally wrong to comprehend/perceive the aya (as many do) as if the Quran actually states that the sun sets in a muddy spring/pool.
    1) First an absolutely universal fact: the Sun is a heavenly body OUTSIDE the earth. It cannot rise from, or sets on planet Earth. The Quran is in absolute agreement with that. It states that the Sun en Moon cannot transgress their prescribed orbits.
    2) All that the Quran states, is that the Sun ‘appeared to him to be setting in a spring of murky water’ (Seyyed Nasr’s comment in your lecture). In this statement, the Quran refers to a view of a person. It is NOT the Quran’s description of the actual conduct of the Sun.
    3) Empirically, anyone enjoying sunsets and sunrises near the sea, have seen the “appearance” of the Sun ‘really’ rising, and setting on the sea. In short, the sun setting in a muddy spring, is a description of the VIEW THE PERSON (the perceiver) ‘appear’ to see, it is NOT description of an act of the Sun. The Sun is ‘VIEWED’/‘perceived’ as setting in a muddy pool/spring. The undertone is, that “views,” “appearances” (and sloppy readings), can be deceiving. Such views/appearances can be illusions of the eye/mind. This a somewhat similar with what Hindus can maya, and philosophers call a phenomenal ‘appearance.’ The ‘sun setting in a muddy spring,’ in the aya is a depiction of a “maya,” an illusion of the eye/mind: Not the a law of nature, Not the conduct of the Sun. That it is not the Sun that rises, and sets, in this case, hints subtly to a mere human view in a pre-Galilean age.
