    A efficient and well maintained train service would be great for Jamaica. The country would grow and develop much faster. One of the worst things that ever happened to Jamaica was the stoppage of passenger train service. That was a major setback for Jamaica.

      It had one once before, the British built it but when they got their independence they let it fall into disrepair.
      Not they will have to start a fresh and it will cost plenty.

      @@charlesjames799 It is estimated to cost approximately US$1 billion to revive the Jamaica Railway Corporation and it's train service. They can get investments from China. According to the latest news, discussions are taking place.

      That's a small price to pay. If they have modern trains and cars they can make it back. The north south highway cast close to that

    This would also be a game changer for reducing pollution from so many cars with a sole occupant on the road, and a much safer and hopefully affordable way to travel.

    This would be great news and would speed up travel and if you could move freight at the same time would improve logistics and infrastructure.
    Jamaica would benefit immensely and in return receive financial rewards.

    Current service needs to run old harbor to Spanish town to Portmore to downtown Kingston. They need a small number of train station and good speed to move people from place to place quick to make the service a meaningful alternative to buses.
    With the train houses would be selling over old harbor like nobody’s business.
    Trains could help workers beat rush hour traffic. I’ve lived elsewhere and I’ll tell you, there’s Nutn like riding the train and watching all the angry drivers in traffic jam nearby

    • @charlesjames799
      @charlesjames799 Před měsícem +2

      Why not run it from Mo Bay to Kingston like before, port to port and make some financial sense and get back some money back to contribute towards the cost of building the railway.

    Freight trains and touring trains are excellent ideas. Passenger trains for the general public...not so sure.

    • @arahass9970
      @arahass9970 Před měsícem +1

      A quick and reliable passenger train service to move people from Old Harbour to Spanish Town and then through Portmore to Kingston would be useful and would help many people! It would also help to sell houses deeper into St Catherine and alleviate the pressure on Kingston and St Andrew and when they build more malls and stores to serve new communities create new jobs.

    • @mtaylor150
      @mtaylor150 Před měsícem

      @@arahass9970 Money. Trains will take money from pre-existing road transport if they are priced competitively. So pricing will be key.

    • @drivinginjamaica

      Yes. Kingston to Portmore and Spanish Town should run 24 hrs

  • @charlesjames799
    @charlesjames799 Před měsícem +1

    Why not build it back like the British had it, Kingston to Mo Bay port to port good for commerce.
    It’s going to many millions of dollars maybe couple of billion and port to port you could recuperate some finance to offset the costs.
    Also if anyone of the two airports were out of action for any reason you could fly to the one that is functioning and then take the train.

    The establishment of the rail service will cost would cost serious law suits for the government as they will be in conflict with toil operators and many taxi operators. So people please rethink. Why invested billions of dollars on highway the decide to build a competing rail service???

  • @zndrsmith
    @zndrsmith Před měsícem

    The JRC needs a massive injection of capital and good management to succeed so they need an investor maybe they could try and convince some Chinese investors to come in as they are good on railways and helped to modernize many in Africa. In the past the government then had rejected interested investors who would have bought it because they were not offering enough and look where that got them, old decaying rolling stock and infrastructure.

    Montego Bay needs many more low income housing schemes not trains to bring people from the KMA to work on the North Coast.

    • @arahass9970
      @arahass9970 Před měsícem

      Government could do subsidized housing for workers. They have apartments in Kingston. They could build units for workers in tourist areas. It’s just that these units would have to be either just rooms with common areas like UWI dorms or shared apartments. I like the dormitory option more.
      I think government dormitories for people with continued proof of employment would be a good idea.
