  • In the 29th video in our van build series, we installed a remote fill kit for our 12.2 gallon undermount propane tank. Our propane tank is mounted behind the rear differential and we installed the remote fill under the back bumper of the van toward the driver's side.

Paint the yellow cap black to make it less obtrusive.

Great video!....one helpful side comment: turning all your receipts into a spreadsheet: If you use Quickbooks Self Employed Intuit, all your credit card activity is automatically downloaded. a few clicks to categorize and a spreadsheet is easily downloaded. A shoebox of receipts is really a thing of the past. Good luck out there!!!!

I would have mounted the remote fill on the driver side in front of rear wheel so you don't hit something with it. And God forbid if that rear tire blows you don't want tire debris hitting the hoses.

We did move it to the drivers side after posting this video because we had the same concerns!

Love your videos, full of great detail. I’m planning my build which should be for the next year until my 2023 AWD gets here :)
I would be concerned about the placement of the propane fill at the edge of your bumper. I currently have a Ford Econoline (19’ long) and my rear can definitely drag which I believe your van is longer. Maybe a mount on the side of your van could be a better option.? Also do you think you need a protective metal piece under your tank? I would also be nervous about rocks if and when going on dirt roads could hit it. Again solid information guys. Subscribed!

Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment! After we posted this video we decided to move the remote fill to avoid the dragging problem. Yesterday Mike was able to modify a few L brackets and mount the fill on the drivers side under the van behind the rear tire instead. We’ll post that in our next video.
We don’t have plans to add protective metal under the tank for now, since it’s pretty durable (more than our gas tank) and we haven’t seen any issues from others with vans with an undermount tank, but we will keep an eye on that.

I have a 2020 148 extended and I have noticed the the back end drags on the steep inclines. I also have the factory tow bar, so my bumper is a little lower and may drag more than yours. The placement of your gas valves and the sparks ⚡️ one can make dragging metal on concrete is disconcerting.

Interesting. Glad I'm not doing propane in my van.
