This is ideal for what I'm looking for. You are very clear and confident. You explained things perfectly. Superb work!
Glad it was helpful!
This tank is a perfect size! I filled mine up and it lasted well over a year for me. I didn’t cook often or full time but easy enough to find a fill station if you do run out.
Thanks for your video, one thing when running the copper line through the floor use a rubber grommet to protect the line.
I use the marine sealant. When it hardens it’s does the same job
Thank you for doing this!! Super helpful. I've been looking for this solution for a year now. I've done 3 propane lockers in 3 different vans and this solution is much, much better. Ease of use, storage, etc.
you're welcome, yeh i was in the same boat!
Nice!!! Thanks for sharing. Solid info!
We did the typical huge propane tank in our van and it actually does fit very nicely between the spare and the rear axle, albeit with like 1-2mm of clearance between the outside edge of the spare and the kick plate of the tank. The spare actually serves as another point of protection for the valves. In 2 years we have never had a single issue. That said it was a bit of a project to cut and weld the brackets. We had a machinist friend at our disposal so it was easier than most probably suffer through.
I will say we use our propane for heat as well as cooking and hot water and since we camp mostly in New England during the winter, I have zero regrets about the larger tank. It gets us weeks of all-day use.
Your recommendation is perfect for your use-case though. I would consider it if we were building a new van for sure.
yeh i agree if you are using it for heat, you need the larger one.
I had a vanagon and had that tank installed. Love your pronunciation 🤣 it’s “van-a-gin” with a hard “g”. That van was so great but no power so I sold for a PM. Really cool that the tank could be used in the new one. I was always a little nervous driving around with that tank though with crazy CA drivers. 🤣 Got my Westfalia in Orange County also. Love your videos!
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
Happy it helped!
as usual, great work and you are much appreciated.
Thank you!
Someone needs to make a tank to utilize the spare tire well.
Judson Vacuum Systems will get you hooked with that they definitely have existed for a long time
What did you do with the little outlet on the end of the tank? Thanks for the video I just received my tank
1/2” brass plug from Home Depot
Perfect gas

Hey, first off thank for the videos, they are very helpful. What propane water heater are you planning to install? Thanks!
I'll be using this tank less water heater for the outdoor shower out the back amzn.to/3v0jOrY
@@BuildingVanLife Much appreciated!
Do you know if a remote monitoring for gaz level can be installed? I just bought the same tank after watching your entire video series.
I imagine it could. I just carry a little camping butane stove with me if it ever runs out I won’t be stuck for the night. I think this tank will last many months though
Did you have to relocate the parking brake lines? My 2020 they run right down the center, I think your van is newer, so maybe they're in another location?
I did not touch any brake lines, i dont think they are in a different spot than the 2020, most of the changes are just cosmetic i dont think they moved things like brake lines
nice work, so I'm assuming you're not going underneath to shut the valve on/off everytime you use it and are probably using on/off valves located inside the vehicle. So if it's always open like that underneath, is it not a hazard if it get's hit by a rock or something, creating sparks, while driving...
Live a little
@@BuildingVanLife that's exactly the point, you want to LIVE and not blow up. There must be a way to install a remote shut off for that main valve.. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'd like to have mine pass inspection and I know that would get called out.. love the concept of underneath though to free up all that space.
@@bikeninja956 it’s a dot certified tank. This is how it’s designed to be used.
@@bikeninja956 I went underneath my Westfalia and shut it off to be safer. It was close to the side though. I know a guy that always leaves his open and yah that would scare me. Or getting T-boned! The whole tank made me nervous.
Have you got any problem removing the pressure relief valve in the tank. I am not able to un screw this valve to replace it with the remote-tank fill adapter? Do you have any trick?
I don’t think I had any problem
@@BuildingVanLife I finally got the valve out with a socket box and my percussion drill.
Also for the remote fill - we mounted in the extended section rear of the rear wheel well and actually used riv-nuts up into the van frame for this. We then had to use metal spacers on top of longer stainless bolts to offset the bracket from the pinch weld. Works great after many years.
My van has a similar but larger tank installed underneath and they used flex hose vs rigid copper. Seems like that would be easier to work with...
easier to work with, yes, but it's not considered proper. Flexible lines should generally only be used from the valve to an appliance no longer than 3 feet in length. Most likely it wont be a problem, but that is the general rules with gas.
To be ISO compliant, copper is required from the tank to the appliances, as he says. There should also be a pressure test done to assure the system is free of leaks. Greg Virgoe covers this very thoroughly on his channel. A propane detector in your living space is also a good idea.
Where was this purged? Or what company purged it? I can’t seem to find any company willing to purge it while it’s already mounted under the van.
Did you install the remote fill? They were able to do it from the side of the van with the remote fill
Looks awesome. Thanks for the video. Is there concern about vibration causing the tie downs rubbing through the lines over time, or do they have a rubber material on the hose side?
Edit...Good job showing the leak check. A lot of people assume everyone will think about that (not true🤣)👍
Thanks again 👍
They are very thick rubber hoses with like a Kevlar or something on the outside. Should be ok
@@BuildingVanLife Nice 👍
I would be concerned about 3/8 copper lines going through the deck, which is metal. I would use something to shield copper from decking to prevent rubbing hole in copper line over time.
@@michaelabbott8841 there is about 1/4 inch of marine sealant all the way around between the pipe and metal floor protecting it
Do you know the outlet pressure on the regulator?
I’m not sure
11 inches of water column or 1/2 PSI
maybe cover the copper from those pesky theifs who cut live lines. you could use something like a flexable metal linned hose and a T. i would add a visable guage in the van off one of your branch lines to reconize leaks.
