Agreed. This one has always struck me as one of the better fights of the Bond series. Brief but brutal, and no music to let the action speak for itself.
The only film appearance of former NWA wrestler "Peter Mavia", he is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnsons maternal grandfather and the inspiration for the design of "Maui" in Moana film.
Yeah, Usually fight scenes this old almost make you cringe with embarrassment they're so bad, but this one impressed me from day one. The way it's edited and the sound effects. The way Peter Mavia moves so quickly for a big guy. It all goes to really sell the scene. The next day at school I'm telling my friends....."Yeah, Bond hits the guy with a f....king COUCH!!"
In the current James Bond movies, you don't see Bond fighting these enormous henchman like the Sean Connery ones. Looked forward to those scenes. They should included it in the current ones. Kudos for this upload. Thanks
Love this one of my best action sequences in the film but i live this film too allways have since i was a kid love the nancy Sinatra lyrics and the soundtrack to ❤❤❤
007 needs to go back to Japan. The nation has changed some since the 1967 film. Japan loved Bond so much, TOHO made a spy film centered on their Kaiju icon Godzilla.
@@TheLegendarySuperSaiyanBroly true. He was actually Ata's stepfather and then officially adopted her as his daughter and that's how he became Rock's maternal grandfather
Connery typically did his own fight scenes if they were not a danger to him. He fought Odd Job in Goldfinger and did get hurt, though. He fought Robert Shaw on the train, and he fought a stunt man in an elevator in Diamonds Are Forever, though the stuntman was injured during the sequence. Connery was not religious about fight choreography which is why they are such good fights. He was kind of an ad-libber and knew the basic outline of the fight. I met Connery and he was a big powerful man and a tough guy, so it’s no wonder he liked the fight scenes.
he shuffles the sumo wrestler intot the cocktail closet like hes made of mashmallows , sean must have been incredibley fit strong that is to do that then

@Greg Fisher and water is wet

Is Judo what we see in this fight scene?
the actor who played the wrestler is Peter Maivia, the maternal grandfather of Dwayne "the rock" Johnson.
Thanks
They should have made tribute fight scene with Daniel Craig and The Rock
@@chrismc410 would be hard for Daniel Craig to win that fight.
I would love to see The Rock as a Bond villain.
Just read that and came here to have a look.

Sumo wrestler's Grandson : IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS
Lol good one
Nice!
He almost took that sword, turned it sideways and stuck it up his candy a$$

Wow, a fight where you can actually SEE what's happening and who's who! It can't be from the last 20 years then.
It really wasn't a fight as much a dudes throwing objects at each other lol,
GoldenEye had realistic fights too.
Try 54 years. That came out in 1967.
@@Anthonycheesman33
Technically that a fight.
@@raulbetancourt5795 a fight is hands connecting not throwing shit lol.
Little touches of comedy gold like Bond gently putting the broken statue back is why I adore the classic Bond flicks.
Out of all the Connery films, I feel like this is the one that aged the best.

From Russia With Love Also. That is still one of the most believable realistic fight scenes put on film.
For being 50 years old the Bond movies have damn good quality.
The age doesn't matter !
i dunno its not that old, see movies from the pre-sound era

‘Good evening!’ So classy before a fight lol
This was THE best fight in 007 history!
It's not just a boulder, it's The Rock's grandfather.
1:09 he sold like the stone cold stunner
Yeah man! You can see his pro wrestling skills in play. Amazing movement for a 120kg+ guy.

Villian: "Its about drive its about power"

Funny you say that considering he’s The Rocks maternal grandfather!
Selling runs in the family 😂
Who's here after watching the bts segment of this scene on Young Rock?
Who needs something small, narrow or blunt for self defense when you can use a sofa!
Young Rock brought me here 😂😂😂
A quite a high quality fight sequence for it's time....
You can thank Peter Maivia! He was also the fight scene coordinator in addition to acting.
No other actor to play Bond would've picked up a sofa as a weapon. Connery remains the best. Total stud in this fight scene. "Cheers."
You got that right!!
Dalton was best
Sean rules❤️
The best weapon he used was his urine.
No he’s not. I’ve seen high school students in better shape than Sean Connery in James Bond.
1:11 Like watching his grand son selling the Stunner
It's really one of the great fight scenes. The audio editing is superb because it gives a real sense of the hard surfaces.

One of the best film fights ever
I just finished watching the latest episode of Young Rock and Dwayne mentioned how his grandfather was in this film.
Jesus, look at the big guy move! 120+kg and he moves like a middleweight. Amazing.
The rocks grand father seems bigger than the rock. And his face looks like rakishi.
One of the best Bond fights ever!
Absolute classic!
Andrew Leibs that's actually Pro Wrestler : High Chief Peter Maivia aka The Rock Dwayne Johnsons Grandfather!!!

Currently watching Young Rock and hearing him talk about this fight scene I had to come here and watch it. And it totally delivered 👏

Bond really.... Laid the Smackdown on him.
Peter took a bump for Sean. "He's selling the gimmick!"
It's a wonderful sofa that can be used as a weapon. Where are you selling?
Nice judo throws in this one
are those Judo moves?
are those judo techniques and moves?
Who is here after the hobbs and shaw interview?
"You can't use a sofá as weapon"
Bond: Hold My sofá.
Did he really expect to injure 007 by throwing him through a paper wall?
I would guess not. Probably just to separate Bond from his person to give himself a better chance to get the upper hand.
He probably did it to gain some ground
1:08-1:11: So THAT'S Where The Rock got his "Selling The Stunner" from.
😆 😆
In reality, this fight sequence was Peter Maivia vs a stuntman
0:11 "So that's why he's suddenly 2 foot taller and was groaning in a Scottish accent earlier."
"Ooocch.... naaaae..."
Comeon we all know who wouldve actually won the fight
In case you dont know, Connery was in the Royal Navy.
He was a good opponent, May he rest in peace
I think Bond only knocked him out. Unless you mean the actor. RIP to them both

SEPTUPLE OG PETER MAIVIA..... all the way from NEW ZEALAND... I born in 84 though...
That "Sumo" wrestler was Hawaii's Peter Maivia. A two legged pit-Bull on 007 movie... but a super nice guy in person.

Man what a GOATED BLOODLINE
What happened to the punctuated single note by John Barry at 1:08?
Twice? Connery died about 30 times in that scene.
YOLT is not one of my favorite Bonds but this is a good fight scene.
That big battle at the end is pretty sick though
Anyone recon the wrestler could fight oddjob?
I just found out in his show Young Rock ! All this time I never knew ....
That extra roll at the end - trying to avoid hitting his head on the raised ledge?
Just watched this episode 😳 on young rock
Its crazy that Peter Maivia is a Samoan who is playing a Japanese man and Yokozuna is a samoan playing a Japanese man
They were relatives.
Now that is something you don't see in modern self defense videos. How to use a sofa in cqc.
Young Rock just show us the making of this scene and why Bond went for the chair.
Even for statues, the rule holds true: never, EVER headbutt a Samoan.
Was he from Samoa or American Samoa?
Robin had a better chance of beating Bruce Lee than Connery does against Maivia
Great fight. May I just point out that neither of these gentlemen are wearing black tie.
