    Tip for beginners:
Hold the knife close to the pivot when learning new tricks. Most people hold it too far down the handles and that makes it so much easier to drop.

I do have something. So when I was young I used to play/flip with a toy called Flip Finz, it was a lighter toy that you can do Balisong flips with a Flip Fin. You can get it from almost any store, Walmart, Family Dollar etc. they dont cost too much. The Flip Finz may be extremely light, but it does get you into the experience, its what i used before i knew Balisongs were a thing. I recommend this because you can learn easy moves with this, and as soon as you get a Balisong, you can used the tricks you learned with a real one. but the real ones are heavier so it'll take solme getting used too. But yeah its a good toy to learn any tricks. (And there is a CZcams that is originally from Flip Finz that teaches you the basics, they are called well... Flip Finz) I hope this helps.. kinda. but its what i personally recommend.

I'm honestly still a beginner myself, but I can still share the best piece of advice I've been given. When you're learning tricks, you're gonna want to go fast. Don't aim for that. Aim for *precision*. If you can pull something off perfectly at half the speed, you'll be able to start doing it faster without thinking.

NO!!!! please don't use electrical tape. Especially if the tape is old. If you decide to leave the tape on a live blade for any amount of time longer than like 2 days the tape will begin to break down.
THE TAPE TO USE: is painters tape. It isn't as sticky and won't stay if it's wet or put on loosely but it sticks to itself well which is nice. If you cover the blade and press down on the tape it'll stick for a while and its tough enough that it won't cut through. Be careful of the tip tho it can poke through if its a good blade. you can always add more tape to the Tip for better coverage and to protect your tip. if you do, add the extra underneath instead of over the full wrap so it stays better.
painters tape will last a while if you need it to without leaving residue and it is strong enough to stop you from getting cut
I hope this could help someone here!

    beginners 5 moves id recommend
    •basic open
    •backhand twirl
(the closed position can make you go into the y2k or zen roll mentioned in the video)
    •the fan
(a very lax move than you can keep doing forever)
    • Y2K
(the meet the spy trick, also one of the most common moves but also very cool)
    •Latch Drop
(can be used without latch, but its simple for returning to the ‘Icepick’ position, or the knife upside down, stabby stab, whatever)
    intermediate moves I recommend
    •sinsiters roll
(if done quickly, it looks hella cool)
    •Choker Fan
(a flashy move that is useful and impressive)
    •Half Orbit
(can be used into other tricks, especially the full orbit)
    advanced moves I recommend
    •Hellbent
(can be used as a cool transition and is very cool looking)
    •Cherrypicker
(awesome for freestyling, and an somewhat easy trick to get the hang of once you know it)
    •Behind the 8 Ball
(a flashy move but quite popular)
    •scissoring
(another one that can go forever and used for freestyles)

You can legally own and purchase balisongs in California, you just can't carry them on your person in public, concealed or open carry.
It sucks, I'd love to EDC my butterfly knives but noooo, since movies and the media have villianized these type of knives, it's "not safe" because they look scary and intimidating. Nevermind the fact that you can scare and intimidate with any object.
They're also completely unrealistic for self-defense or combat because of the free swinging handles. Good luck getting the handles latched during a scuffle.
Stupid knife laws. You can walk into walmart and walk out with kitchen knives, machetes, shovels, baseball bats, golf clubs, etc and there's no laws regulating that junk.
But no, we gotta outlaw what are essentially fancy pocket knives. smdh. >.

I was amazed on how much easier tricks were with a more quality balisong. Saving up just a little bit more it get something more of quality is going to pay off in the long run. Im casually flipping tricks that took a lot more effort to do before. having said that its a lighter knife so im still getting used to it.. but if you know youre gonna be flipping for a while, it is far better an idea to buy something halfway decent to begin with. in the UK its harder to pick stuff like this up and we pay through the nose for the privilege but it is so damned worth it. its like night and day's difference.

In case there's someone from latam or any country that has fked up taxes, I could recommend getting the Cyoz from eurobalisong. It's technically not a clone (even tho it has a """"stolen"""" trainer blade design, like some people on Reddit said). It has zenpins, bushings and channel aluminum handles. Those are kinda rounded, perfect for fannings, and also has some lines like depressions on the handles that make it even less slippery if that could be a problem.
