  • 🌊 Triathletes, gather 'round! 🏊‍♂️ Are you ready to uncover the secrets of kicking in a triathlon swim? 🤔 Join us on an aquatic adventure as we dive deep into the world of kicking, speed, and efficiency in the water!
🚀 First off, let's clear up a common myth: kicking isn't just about speed. While it can give you an initial boost, its real superpower lies in efficiency. We're talking about that sweet spot where your legs help you glide through the water with grace and power. 🏄‍♂️
📊 Did you know that efficient kicking contributes to about 10-15% of your overall propulsion in freestyle swimming? It's like your aquatic sidekick, keeping you stable and balanced. But here's the kicker (pun intended): the exact percentage varies from swimmer to swimmer. Some folks love to kick up a storm, while others prefer their arms to do the talking. It's all about finding your perfect rhythm!
💨 On the flip side, a poor kick can drag you down-literally! Imagine adding 15-20% or more drag to your swim. Yikes! That's like trying to bike with the brakes on. 🚴‍♂️ More drag means more effort to keep your speed up, and that can leave you feeling like you're pedaling through molasses.
🌟 So, what's the deal with efficient kicking? Why bother perfecting your underwater dance moves? Well, here are the benefits:
    1. 🏁 Need to surge ahead when race conditions change? Efficient kicking has your back! Whether you're sprinting to catch up with a group or making a tight turn around a buoy, your legs can give you that extra push.
    2. 🚤 Takeout speed? You got it! When the race begins, you'll zoom ahead with greater velocity, leaving competitors in your wake.
    3. 👟 And don't forget about the transition! Efficient kicking helps get the blood flowing back to your legs before you hit the run. No more jelly legs on dry land! 🏃‍♂️
🏆 In a nutshell, while kicking might not be your main speedster in a triathlon, it's your trusty sidekick for efficiency and energy conservation. So, whether you're an age-grouper or a seasoned pro, don't underestimate the power of a well-executed kick. 🦵

Take a look at your right hand as you extend. You are putting on the brakes as you point your finger tips upward.

Thank you for the message Keith, great pick up on the palm leading on entry with high finger catch. We are currently working on a few hand entry drills with a snorkel on to help with this issue. hopefully next footage with this athlete we can see a great improvement.
