Upgrading Your E-bike To Cable/hydraulic Brakes.

  • I decided to change the cable operated calipers on my ENGWE EP-2 e-bike, for a set of Zoom Xtech HB100 ones, as although the original brakes worked fine, they were quite noisy when applied. The squealing was really annoying me. These ones are hydraulic but cable operated, so make the change over pretty easy. I will see how these hold up over time, eventually may go for full hydraulic, but they will need to have the motor cut out switch in the levers.
They are definitely quieter on my bike, and pull up shaper, an all round improvement really.
I think for everyday use, they will perform fine, although I wouldn't recommend them for heavy use where they would get hot. I can't imagine the seals are of the highest quality. But for the price they seem decent.

I've recently ordered these and they took 15 minutes or less to assemble which was so much easier than I thought it would be the same with threading cables through the housing. What a difference in breaking power. At least my disks are having equal pressing on both sides now. Yehay. Thanks for pointing me to these. 👍😉

I did the back one yesterday. Took me an hour and a half and with the help of a neighbor in the end. The wire wasn't good, no nipple on the end, all loose wiring, bought my Engwe used. And at first applied the wrong one, didn't realize they were different, front and back.
Had to cut them off, make it longer, cut off some rubber etc.
Breaking power on the back one is better, not as good as I thought though, thought it would be like on my mtb or something. Still a little bit squeeky when pushed hard, but a lot less.
    However I feel proud 🤣🤣🤣
One of these days I will do the front one, and combined I think they will do a good job 🙌🏼✨🎊

Thank you for this video! I for sure will be placing an order! The squealing is terrible on the factory preinstalled brakes.. By the way, my Engwe EP-2 bike came with the worst, cheapest possible suspension fork, that drove me mad. I had to use rubber handlebar grips which I cut with scissors and tighten them up on the pipe .... in order to restrict its movement up and down. Using the grips I tried to make it as a rigid fork, as before that any bump on the road would make me jump up and down with a terrible feeling. I`m not sure if I was able to explain correctly, but if you have the same fork you know what I mean.... so I wonder if you plan or have done anything similar... The other option of course is to purchase an expensive new suspension fork but I`m not ready to spend another 250$ or more on this bike for now...
