- Bangladesh and Colombia have joined South Africa in accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Namibia has also criticised Germany for supporting Israel in the genocide case at the International Court of Justice brought by South Africa.
In its statement on X, Namibia's government said Germany committed the first genocide of the 20th century between 1904 and 1908.
More than 70,000 of indigenous Herero and Nama people were killed in that massacre under German colonial rule.
Namibia's President says Germany is ignoring the lessons of its past atrocities.
He accused Berlin of supporting a genocide in Gaza, while disregarding Israel's killing of Palestinians.
Israel Kaunatjike is a Herero activist and a member of the Namibian NGO Alliance "No Amnesty on Genocide".
He says Namibia stands in solidarity with Palestine and that Germany is not fit to say what is genocide, given their past atrocities.

Another German here. It’s disturbing. Many people here are not even aware what is happening. I just came back to Germany for the holidays, and I was appalled about the news coverage here! Basically a repetition of IDF talking points turned into headlines. Protests are highly restricted. It’s worrying.
As a Swede I refuse to watch the news here. I have never seen propaganda that obvious. I even had conflict with family members. It feels like I live in Russia or something. People are brain dead. I am appalled.

A good number of kenyans may be supporting Israel because we also know how a terror attack feels like, in 2014 more than 100 inonocent unarm students were murdered in Garrisa university by al shabaab terrorist and there are many more of the attacks with massive number of casualties. on the other side S.A is supporting palestine because they experienced an apartheid regime. I am from Germany (but born to Turkish immigrant parents) and we don't really hear ANYTHING about this in our own media. I also studied history for my BA and I see similarities between the Herrero/Nama geno*ide and the current one in Gaza. In both cases, people were deliberately trapped without water or food while anyone who tried to escape then entrapment were shot at on sight.

The 20th century genocide in namibia should not be called the Nama Herero genocide but rather the Namibia genocide or something else that is also inclusive for the Damara and San peoples that also suffered under this cruelty
The extermination order was specifically issued for the Herero people and then later another one for the Nama after they joined in. For something to be recognized as genocide there are criterias that need to be fulfilled one of those beings stated intent to kill of everyone. The damaras and other tribes were clearly collateral damage and there was no intent to exterminate those tribes, they also didn't die in high numbers. Also the Herero and Nama people fought for this case on their own without the help of other Namibian tribes or the government. They sold cattle for many years for activists to travel and raise awareness on this case. This whole narrative is just for people to try and benefit from things that their leaders had no input in. One must applaud the Nama and Herero people that they managed to get this case recognized internationally without having government resources. It makes one wonder how far Namibia would have progressed under these same people's leadership.
