NathanXdrums Ehhhh Arin kinda held back his speed while he was in A7x. I think he would surprise you.
+Aidan Miller that's true, they did hold him back, don't get me wrong I loved arin, but brooks has more groove, and technicality to his drumming, which yes arin wasn't really allowed much freedom I get that, so there's really no way to say what arin could and couldn't do.

Brooks has a tendency to do that in Bad Religion songs, throwing out something crazy that youd never expect. One of my favorite drummers for sure!
I feel sad of knowing Brooks is parting away from Bad Religion (which was one of my favorite bands), he did an outstanding job with BR and I definitely going to miss him.
I am not a follower of Avenged Sevenfold (don't have anything against them though) but I wish him the best with his other projects.

If you don't like A7X, then that's fine, we all have different tastes in music, but there's no need to insult, degrade, or demean the people that do happen to like them. Whether you like it or not, A7X is a heavy metal band. Are they the heaviest, hell no, there are a ton of bands heavier than them like FFDP or Trivium, but that's not why I listen to them. I listen to them because they have great songs and everyone in the band is amazingly talented, especially Brooks here.

Amazing , it really is a monster presenting a lot of skills in technique, speed and time! Bad Religion Became really more powerfull to complete 30 years with him , and he is still showing that can play more and more.

I think Brooks was a great drummer for Bad Religion, he's a very talented drummer. I like Jamie as well, was impressed by his live performance last october, the last I've seen them.

+tesco986543210 I'm really happy for A7X, but sad for Bad Religion. They're a pretty old band by now, who knows if they think it would be worthwhile getting a new drummer. The could basically (I sure hope not) call it quits, and it wouldn't even be a weird thing to do.
@Hector, well luckily they didnt reitre. I think they still have at least ten good years in them. Maybe even 15 or 20. They will have plenty to write about in the next years...

Vivek Jha Sean Kinney is not overly technical but he has a beautiful style often switching his fills into different times from 4/4 to 6/8 etc. A joy to listen to and seriously underrated

CrateOfWelX He's about 40 as he was Infectious Grooves over 20 years ago and then Suicidal Tendencies in about 1999 which was when I first realised just how good he was so when he joined BR is a dream come true and he did not disappoint.

Phenomenal drummer and one of the best I have seen live and I have seen everyone. Such a shame he felt the need to leave BR and join some metal band. Hopefully he will see the error of his ways and return. BR have never been better than with Brooks Wackerman. Listen listen to that crisp snare work. Looks easy but to get that smooth is a real art.
Looks like everyone came here for the same reason I did. To see wha he sounds like since he'll be joining a7x

Overture and Sinister Rouge uses it. Vanity uses it at the end. It's really used sparingly on the BR albums but tastefully nonetheless.

Hugo Rezende Four way independence. He got this from his jazz training. I use the same only I stole that from Carl Palmer. All those great drummers from the 70's mark time with the hi-hat but sadly fallen out of favour as most young drummers think drumming is all about repetitive 16th notes on a second bass drum.

I actually don't want another Jimmy. If he tries too hard to write/play just like Jimmy, it'll crash and burn, but Brooks plays/writes very similar, yet a world away from Jimmy, so I feel things will be great if he just writes like himself, not Jimmy. I love him just as much as any other A7X fan, but whenever someone tries to replace someone else instead of playing like themselves, it sounds like neither.

to those who think brooks is "too punk" for avenged sevenfold please do yourself a favor and learn more about drumming.because this guy is easily more technical than the rev and way more versatile than anyone they've ever employed
+ThaTruth223 That is false because Mike Portnoy is by far one of the most technical and versatile drummers to ever sit behind a kit, whether it be physical skill, composition, or song writing ability. That being said, I am excited to hear what direction A7X will go in with brooks in the band.
ThaTruth223 I am hoping he is too punk because with his pedigree The Vandals, Suicidal Tendencies and BR Brooks is an out and out punk drummer and is already missed in the punk rock community as far too good for the metal community :) If he was playing with Ozzy or Sabbath I could understand it but Avenged from BR one of the biggest punk bands in the world really was a surprise but at least he did it with dignity unlike that other idiot Jay Weinberg. He will not be welcomed back unlike Brooks who is always welcome.
GLPC1724 That is not accurate at all. Portnoy is limited. He does a mean Bonham impersonation but he knows very little about rudiments which is what is meant by the term technical to refer to a drummer. Mike Portnoy is not a technical drummer at all. Phil Collins, Carl Palmer, Ian Paice etc are technical drummers. The new Dream Theatre drummer is far more technical. Not all the best drummers are technical. John Bonham amazing drummer was also limited technically but he had one major advantage he was John Bonham.
@Jason Butche Listen to his work with Genesis in the 70s, or Brand X. He's actually a very good drummer.
