    Watch the scene in 4K if your device supports it as the picture will be noticeably sharper due to the higher bitrate.
    If the 5.1 audio is not working for you (as CZcams does not support native 5.1 playback on many devices), download yt-dlp ( github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp ), download this video and then you can play back the file locally with 5.1 audio.

      on some devices youtube has extremely dark and discolored "HDR", extremely crushed blacks and like brightness is reduced by 35% even though HDR is supposed to be bright with high contrast(that still has good visibility, rich deep gradients that look good and pop while also all being clear), i think my phone may have faux HDR, it was 600$ so i expected legit but oh well. either that, or it is legit HDR, but some phones have dumb filtering on top of legit HDR and whoever designed these filters has very bad taste and no idea of good calibration. wish phones had more manual display controls!

    That final scene involving the distortion between Anakin and Vader's voices is truly one of the best scenes in Star Wars. I think we always saw them as like separate people but here we see that they really are the same person. Also the red and blue lighting is symbolic between Anakin and Vader.

      @@hughjass42069 He is the best defensive duelist actually. Dooku though has the perfect counter called Form II Makashi. Not to mention Dooku is far more powerful in the force and far more intelligent. Kenobi has an IQ of 145 while Dooku has an IQ of 165 which is equal to Anakin. Kenobi is not even close to as proficient in the force as Dooku was. The dark side only served to boost himself in combat. Im a casual eh? Judging before knowing is offensive you know.

    • @sunryder
      @sunryder Před rokem +87

      @@doomsterr I’m assuming you’re discussing Legends, because essentially nothing you said has support in canon. For one, the concept of passive Force defenses is not really present in canon. Every time duelists are shown resisting Force attacks, they do so with an active gesture. Dooku has only successfully affected Kenobi twice with the Force in canon, both on the Invisible Hand. One minor Force push and then the choke/throw (which was potentially assisted by Palpatine). Kenobi didn’t try to block either of these. In Clone Wars, he was able to successfully block a Force push from Dooku.
      There is nothing in canon or Legends that implies Form II to be a counter to Form III. By ROTS, Dooku was already seemingly unable to defeat Kenobi in sabers and needed to resort to catching him off-guard with the Force. And, in terms of dueling feats, the two are comparable by ROTS to say the least.
      Source of that IQ claim? I’d be shocked if it was canon and wonder what Legends source would even establish something like IQ numbers for characters. Regardless, Obi-Wan has overall better tactical showings IMO.
      By ROTS, Kenobi was a rough equal to Anakin in the Force in canon, putting him on at least the same tier as Dooku. By the point of the second half of the duel in this video, Obi-Wan should be solidly above Dooku in the Force judging from his showing against a superior Force user in Vader. Once Obi-Wan let’s go of his guilt and regret and instead focused on protecting the kids, he was able to throw Vader around, shake off Vader’s hold on his saber, and launch a barrage of boulders that Vader was stated to be unable to stop. At this point in his life, Vader’s Force feats should surpass Dooku by quite a margin.
      Obi-Wan beats Dooku 5-6/10 in ROTS
      Obi-Wan beats Dooku 8-9/10 by the Kenobi finale

    • @jackbruno953
      @jackbruno953 Před rokem +122

      One of the biggest reasons obi wan won here is because he calmed down and focused. Before he was just getting dominated the whole fight.
      Once he was focused though, Vader started losing since he was blinded by his own rage and emotion.
      But another aspect of why obi wan can go toe to toe with Vader is cause he fucking trained him. He knows anakin’s fighting style inside and out. Vaders style is the same just slower and more powerful.
      So many people forget that.
      Edit: I also wanna add the fact that Vader lost this fight here since he was too conflicted and unable to focus his rage. Palpatine confirms this when he suggests that maybe his feelings for his old master left him weakened.
      This Vader is not the cold and calculated one from the original trilogy. People forget the emotional element of the fight and just look at everything from a surface level point of view.
      Kenobi is by no means more powerful than Vader. He was able to finally let go that Anakin was gone at this point and it wasn’t entirely his fault. Meanwhile Vader couldn’t let go of his feelings and hatred toward Kenobi. He literally addresses him as “Master”. Vaders conflicted emotions costed him the fight as well as the advantages that I stated earlier.

    When he said "You didn't kill Anakin. I did" that's actually a trauma response. In Revenge of the Sith Palpatine led him to believe that he killed his pregnant wife. So he has the trauma of not only killing his comrades, but also thinking he killed his wife, and his unborn child. And so, he has the "Darth Vader" persona to distance himself from those actions. And so, in his superego, he uses the identity of Vader 'controlling' him as a way to come to terms with the trauma of the war, and how he assumes that he killed his wife and unborn child.

Anakins being overly aggressive and obiwan being overly defensive. The perfect dance between life and death with the environment around them ensuring only one made it out alive. And in the very end. The very reason anakin wasnt a master is why he lost to kenobi. Arrogance. And this fight shows how both have matured. And really gives a heartbreaking look at darth vaders internal conflict. That scream at the end...It's harder than Maul could ever scream. Because Maul doesn't know Obi Wan like Anakin did: On a deeply personal level. He hates only 3 things in the galaxy:
    His master; Darth Sidious. For ensnaring him in his trap and making him his pawn.
    His old master; Obi Wan. For seemingly turning his wife against him and causing him to cook to medium well and having to wear the suit because of it.
    But most of all; Himself. If you've ever struggled with depression, you know what I mean when I say "Darth Vader level depression". You want to die. Every day you want to either die or kill. Just to bury the utter emotional and mental agony of just being alive. You have tried to end it. Vader tried. Multiple times. But the Dark Side kept him alive (in his eyes) as some sick joke. But you can't die. However, you can't live either. You're in a walking coffin. Upright, and forced to go on living.
    That scream at the end is not of a man...It's of a former man that's been reduced to an animal. Now a wounded and defeated animal. That can only snarl and shriek, despite knowing that it's been beaten.
    That's all, thanks for letting me ramble.

    Why you gotta make a grown man wanna cry?
    Seriously, this in peak Star Wars. So much to unpack here.
    From Obi-Wan being in Qui-Gon's signature Form IV stance, to the glimmer of hope and joy Obi-Wan feels at seeing Anakin's face behind the mask, to Anakin's classic line, to Obi-Wan's (incredibly well done) apology to Anakin... it's just premium.
    As a side note, I think that Obi-Wan blamed himself for Anakin's fall to the Dark Side far too much, which was holding him back. He couldn't see or speak to Qui-Gon because he got in his own way. Once Obi-Wan managed to understand that he wasn't the crux of why Anakin turned into Vader, he was released from his mental prison and view the world more clearly (including Qui-Gon),
    Ironically, it's made clear that Qui-Gon blamed himself for Anakin's downfall even as a Force Ghost, and Obi-Wan shut that notion down right away. Although he acknowledgles that he and Qui-Gon may have played small parts, they were in no way the primary reason for Anakin to fall to the Dark Side. If anything, it was a combination of the Jedi Council treating Anakin rather poorly throughout his life, combined with his natural pride, and finally Sidious manipulating Anakin's FEAR of losing the people he loved (which, ironically, was the catalyst of losing those he loved).
    Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are not to blame for that.

    This scene made me cry so much, I used to blame myself for things that were not truly my fault with someone I knew that hurt me badly, when in reality it never was my fault nor my responsibility on how they turned out. In Obi Wan's case, he did have some fault on certain things with anakin, but in the end, the real fault of anakin's actions falls on himself. Obi Wan tried his best to make it up to Ani, but ani decided to just self sabotage and continue the cycle of self destruction. Anakin was the one who made his choice as an adult to act on his own egocentric feelings, while hurting and destroying the order and everyone whether they were innocent or not of amy crime. He became far worse than what he ever wanted to be, he became his own worse enemy.

  • @MasonHZilla
    @MasonHZilla Před 8 měsíci +18

    This scene finally bridges the gap between OT Obi-Wan and prequel era Obi-Wan. In the old canon, Obi-Wan went from screaming through tears at his fallen friend to Mr. "From a Certain Point of View" entirely offscreen, implying he just coped with losing his friend that way, and that always felt weirdly bitter for a character established in all the follow-up material as so deeply kind (literally held Maul as he died.) Now, it's been flipped - Obi-Wan continued to feel lingering guilt and sadness until he came face to face with an Anakin so bitter and spiteful that he explicitly told Obi-Wan to save his empathy - instead he should consider Anakin dead, because the reverse was certainly true. Even if Anakin's bitter winging would ultimately hold untrue in the end, it's no longer just about a bitter old man lying to himself (and to Luke) - it now makes perfect sense why Obi-Wan would walk away with such a sad, callous perspective.
    I also gotta mention I really hate the constant framing of the scene as some secretly compassionate gesture from Anakin releasing Obi-Wan from his guilt or whatever. This scene is basically Anakin's version of Kylo Ren shattering his mask; doubling down on his villainy out of spite. This is a bitter, broken man receiving completely unconditional empathy from the only person left in the entire galaxy who still cares about him - and spitting it back in his face. "I'm not your responsibility, I'm not your friend, keep your empathy and let's fucking kill each other already." It's deeply fucked up in a way that feels so painfully real; capturing the childish, spiteful, miserable rage that, yknow, motivates people to push away all their loved ones and go murder civilians instead. Never forget that the persona of "Darth Vader" is just Anakin's mask to make his miserable life look cool and imposing.

    That's about the same age that Alec Guinness was when he filmed "Episode IV", so, intentionally or not, they've managed to develop the timeline very well.

The timeline has never matched up though, he's 25 in TPM, 34 in AOTC (as Stated in movie 9 years later), 35 in ROTS which doesn't make sense the war had been going 3 years he should have been 37, and 19 years pass between that and ANH, so he should have been 56 when he died and 47 here.

    The connection to the final quotes in this duel connects really well with the original trilogy. It justifies Ben Kenobi’s point of view of saying that Darth Vader killed Anakin because Darth Vader said it himself: “You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker; I did.” Even though Luke felt misled by Ben when Darth Vader told him about being his father, Ben was still telling Luke the truth the whole time, just from a certain point of view.

A New Hopes death of Obi Wan i honestly feel like they both knew Obi Wan was ready to die to end the sadness he lives with over Anakin and Darth Vader knew it as well but Darth Vader was ready to end his own life as well but not before he told Luke everything and Obi Wan set that up for him cause he knew what Anakin wanted before he peaced out.

    Incredible, breathtaking and tragic reunion of these two people. The strange dynamic that I observed at the end was 3 distinctly different voices from Anakin. There was his voice and of course Vader's voice but when he said he killed Anakin that was a totally different and separate voice. Is there a middle man at play here? Like an evil broker between Vader and Anakin Skywalker? I could just be reaching here. But still yet the best scene ever in Star Wars period.

    As in mustafar obi wan only won by combat knowledge, keeping distance and aiming for the vital parts of darth vaders armor, while darth vader was not yet the mercyless person we saw in episode 1, he could kill obi wan at certain times but didn’t and even adressed him as master, certainly fighting with hesitation, at 08:11 we saw that the reflection from the lightsaber on anakin face changes to red, symbolizing that anakin was dead and darth vader was born

  • @joshuaweston6531

    This saber duel is going to go down in history as one of the best! The choreography isn't as obvious as in the prequels, but I appreciate the desperateness in this struggle! Obi wan does a lot of rolling...it all feels so much more haphazard! Which is a good thing! I love that moment where Vader force stops Obi Wan's blade! The whole affair was surprisingly brutal! I've said it before and I'll say it again...don't back Obi Wan into a corner, lest he becomes a feral beast! I also love Ewan and Hayden's performances! Hayden sells it with the look and confirmation that Vader is, in fact, the one who "killed" Anakin Skywalker! Ewan legit pulls out the teary eyes when acknowledging that he's lost his friend. Calling him "Darth" is just the icing on the cake! A point of no return, where he has excepted those things he can't control!

      Lotta people say the finale of Episode 3 was better, and it was more physically impressive. But as you say, it was too heavily choreographed. It was more like a dance performance than a battle. Amazingly done and entertaining to watch, but this feels more raw, more real.
