One Piece is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS (In the Best Way Possible)

  • One Piece is a wacky show.
Over the years, we have seen countless live action anime adaptations fail. These failures have built a layer of skepticism surrounding such adaptations and as a result no one expected Netflix's One Piece live action adaptation to be good. However, everyone was proved wrong as One Piece is an absolute delight. It is pure pirate adventure fun, nailing the tone it set out to achieve. One scene you will see the most ridiculous thing you have ever seen and in the next moment you are in tears as you experience an incredibly emotional character moment. One Piece was long said to be unadaptable but the production team behind this show proved everyone wrong and gave us a real treat.

Zoro's bad sense of direction in the Syrup Village arc is actually the one thing that makes sense really. That boy is so bad with directions he will be on his way to die but get lost so bad during the process he will just return to life. It's such an integral part of his character that when Zoro's actor was missing for a lot of the promotional material fans weren't even disappointed. We just made jokes that we knew that he was just as lost as Zoro usually is and took it like that is how reality should be for someone who will give authentic Zoro experience🤣🤣🤣
Honestly Zoro getting lost is so common and so ridiculous that him not getting lost would have felt like the biggest change they could have made and would have ruined the character.

FYI, for reference purposes only, the poor sense of direction in psychology terms are:
      1. Topographical disorientation - inability/difficulty finding one's way in the environment
      2. Visuospatial dysgnosia - loss of sense of "whereness" in the relation of oneself to one's environment
      3. Right-left confusion - difficulty in distinguishing the directions left and right
      4. Dromosagnosia - lose of sense of direction while driving (or while navigating in any fast-moving vehicle)

You made me realize something about the prologue - having Garp be the officer in charge of Roger's execution was a brilliant change. Because any other Marine officer would logically have done as you said and cut Roger off the second it became clear where he was going with his last words (in hindsight it's really weird it didn't happen that way in the source material, since it was just some random dude conducting the execution). But Garp was his friend as well as his rival, and wouldn't want to dishonor him that way.

The thing is that Zoro IS naive. All the young characters are. He believes everyone is like him: honest, straightforward, and honorable. Zoro is also somewhat arrogant in his belief that he is strong enough and ready enough for the world, ie facing Mihawk and being ready to fight all Buggy's guy barehanded. It's also why he can't understand that Nami later actions might have an ulterior motive, while Luffy and Sanji can both see it.

The snails are called "Den-Den Mushi" which roughly translate to "Transponder Snail". The snails take on a "somewhat appearance" of the one who are using them (for an assumed gag factor). There are different types of snails used for different purposes like video call, projection, telephone snail, interception snail, de- and encryption snails and such.
They are a "natural" animal who possess a mysterious capability to engage in telepathic communication with one another across extensive distances, ostensibly facilitated by electronic signals. Additionally, they possess the remarkable ability to flawlessly replicate speech, including the intonations and cadences of individual voices while taking on that "somewhat appearance" of the users.

Ask no questions about the Den Den Mushis, for you will receive no answer that pleases either you or God.
Also Zoro coming from the direction of the house trying to find the house isn't an error, its a refernce to a running joke in the manga/anime that Zoro has the worst sense of direction in the entire world. Like, dumbfoundingly terrible, you ask the man to walk 20 meters straight A to B by himself and somehow he's 15 meters off to the left and down a ditch

In the world of One Piece the snails that have been turned into den den Mushi’s are naturally telepathic to others in their species, humans have just taken advantage of that and turned them into a form of communication.
It’s kinda like how humans in our world have used electric eels as a source of energy generation at a few points of time in our history, or how we used glow in the dark jellyfish for commercial products such as an inspiration for medicine. Etc. Along with other examples

20:46 Something the live action didn’t manage to clarify is that these guys antagonizing Shanks’ crew are *not* pirates. They’re mountain bandits. That’s a very important distinction because these mountain bandits look down on pirates, seeing them as overhyped nobodies(only to be quickly proven wrong by Shanks)

there’s a point in the story where child luffy tells someone, “i don’t like mountain bandits, but i like you guys,” and knowing that he doesn’t like mountain bandits because of the bar scene kind of adds weight to that scene in the future

Yeah the syrup village section had some serious changes, so e of wich make Kuro's plan actually better
    1) in the manga, Kuro DOES make it so that he is the heir if something happened to Kaya
    2) Kuro NEVER killed Merry. In fact it is Merry that gives the Going Merry to the strawhats.
    3) Kuro's plan was never to kill Kaya himself, it was to make his estranged crew kill Kaya, while having witnesses of pirates knocking him out, to make it seem legit
    Also fun facts:
-they cut Django, a semi recurring character, who is a Michael Jackson knockoff hypnotist
-Kuro faked his death by making Django hypnotozed the sole survivor of a Marine ship Kuro slaughtered, and making him convinced he caught him. He then hipnotized one of his own to claim he is Kuro and making him a lookalike. The fake was brought in and executed as Kuro, who was then free of the bounty. The marine survivor was actually Morgan, and that was how he became a Captain. By bringin in the infamous (fake) captain Kuro.

They can also mimic voices and appearances to an extent. So, they are trained to be used as phones since the snail on the other side can receive a message and replicate it identically. They also mimic the look of their owners down to the mustache or metal jaw. 🐌🐌

In the manga, Buggy's body was stolen by Nami when he was too busy fighting Luffy using his chop-chop power. Nami put the body in a large white bag like a thief she is & threw it away, leaving Buggy only with his hands, feet, & head like in episode 2. Since Buggy's crew were defeated & ran away, he had to find his body alone. After Buggy got defeated by Luffy, he built a raft & sailed away. He had various encounters along the way, including with green piranhas, weird animals that looked like the mix between 2 animals into 1, & an afro-haired guy who was half stuck in a treasure chest for years named Gaimon. Buggy & Gaimon became rivals, but after they realised that they had more things in common, they became best friends. In the manga, Buggy finds his body with the help of Alvida.

And we learn after Arlong double crosses her that the villagers were only pretending to hate her so she wouldn’t feel like she let them down if she failed to hold up her end of the deal with Arlong or ran away, and the villagers knew about the deal because Nojiko told them almost immediately after Nami told her(which was almost immediately after making the deal in the first place, so the villagers knew all along and only feigned ignorance). Changing it so she tells no one at all takes away the emotional gut punch of finding out the villagers were only pretending to hate her and why.

    • @jacobwansleeben
      @jacobwansleeben Před 8 měsíci +3

Personally, I don't mind the change because I found it a bit unbelievable in the anime that the ENTIRE village knew about what she was going through and for MANY years acted like assholes to her and not a single one of them ever tried to help her or even console her about what she was going through.

    • @Hawkcam1996
      @Hawkcam1996 Před 8 měsíci +2

@@jacobwansleeben The whole point was that the villagers wanted *her* to hate *them* or at least not feel obligated to help them by not getting close to her. That’s how they *were* helping her. You think they could afford to be giving her money to go into her “buy back Coco Village fund”?Consoling her would help towards making her not feel obligated to save them? That would achieve the opposite. The whole village cared about her, that’s why they did it. Just like when the whole village had decided to try and fight Arlong when he first kidnapped Nami, until she came back and told them she joined his crew, and then later every one of them decided they’d fight to the death for Nami when Arlong double crossed her. It was 100% believable. A small village like Coco Village banding together for a common goal is something that happens in real life.

Kaya's business manager, named Merry, is not really a sheep man. He just wears a sheep-inspired head gear. Although a race of men with animal-like appearance indeed exists in One Piece world, which is called the "Minks", but Merry is not one of them. He's normal human who's just fond of sheeps.

It's a species of snails that have a world-wide telepathic network to communicate with each other, and several abilities related to mimicry. By putting a few attachments on them, humans can tap onto that network to communicate across vast distances. Their aspect comes from them choosing to mimic people who they have around (or the snail they are receiving a telepathic communication from, which in time can be mimicking the person they are close with), same as their speaking voice that mimics the one they receive in that telepathic contact

Live Action left out some minor details but very important to kuro's plan from the manga/anime.
Same as the LA, the manga/anime version plan was a simple and straightforward but the different is the execution, the approach, the motivation and the goal behind them.
Some people claiming that the LA has better Kuro and better plan..
    This is RIDICULOUS!!
For example some of those claim was about using hypnotism on Kaya to make her to give all of her wealth to Kuro.
    We have to understand that,
OP world is a fictional world where people or things have supernatural power.
For a real life human like us, hypnotic and stuffs might seem ridiculous, UNRELIABLE and unrealistic but for a fiction with superpower in it, it totally different.
How you cant even understand this simple basic concept?
Kuro's plan in using Jango's hypnotic power to brainwash Kayo into giving all her wealth to Kuro LEGALLY is a smart, effective and logical way when it come to the fictional world like OP.
Kuro or anyone that have that kind of resource, why not using it to the benefit of you, yourself?
For example, if you are a writer for fictional comic Superman,
Are you the kind of writer that will make superman run and grab a bucket of water one or two at the time to extinguish fire from a raging burning building just because you and every human in the real world dont have superpowers despite that Superman have all those godlike abilities like ice breath and superspeed?
    Kuro have Jango+hypnotic power...
    why not using it?
Hypnotism might seem ridiculous in our world but its certainly not like that in OP world.
And as we seen from the manga/anime how EFFECTIVE and USEFUL that hypnotic power in OP.
And we also know that Jango is not the only hypnotic power user in the series..
We have Miss GoldenWeek in the future arc that also very problematic for our protagonists.
I also mentioned about EXECUTION when it come to Kuro's plans.
1st we have to understand Kuro, his personality and his goal.. ultimate goal.
Kuro's is simple.. he want to live in peace, wealth and rever/respected by the people around him.
As a famous wanted pirate, he cant live in peace even though he can mass the riches.
So he made plans to make the authorities thought that he had die so that the authorities will stop hunting him.
Then he gain the trust of some wealthy people and the community around those rich people so that he can stole their (Kaya family) wealth without anyone suspecting him so thar he still have the love, respect and admiration of the town people...
The thing was leftout from the LA...
The plan sound simple but its quite hard when it come to the execution to achieve the total package of gaining wealth of Kaya's family and respect without prejudices from everyone..
That is why, Kuro live with them for couple of years to gain trust of all the parties,
Then when the time comes, Jango, Kuro's vice captain with hypnotic power will come to the island/village to hypnotize Kaya and make her wrote her Will to leave all of her wealth to Kuro because she have no other family members to inherit the wealth if something happen to her.
Then, Jango and the BlackCat Pirate will raid the Island and Kaya will be killed during the raid "Naturally" by the pirates who pillaging the island.
So, Kuro will inherit everything and nobody will suspect anything because it will seem like a tragic accident due to the pirate ransacking the island.
Again, this is not in the LA...
Then, the last part of the plan is, Kuro will kill Jango and BlackCat Pirates later to cover up everything..
    Also not in the LA...
And Manga/anime Kuro maintain his composure and he is a levelheaded person most of the time.. only Luffy manage to tick him off...
Unlike the LA where they turned him into a crazy idiot maniac who like tormenting girl....

Zoro and Luffy are both naive, which is why they make such a special duo. They’re naive in different ways though. Someone already said it best in the comments: Zoro’a naiveté lies in the *expectation* that everyone is as honest and honorable as him, and that he is strong enough to take in any challenge. Luffy’s naiveté comes from *hoping* and believing that maybe being nice would work out, also believing in other people to be honest first, but Luffy is quite emotionally intelligent in his own way.
They’re both different and similar in many ways, which is why we love this duo ❤ I’m glad you liked OPLA, I started with OPLA too and am now just finished Enies Lobby arc in the anime! I’m new to all this too but I love these characters and LA cast.

I think you are doing a good job recapping the show but at time it feels like you are reading exactly what happens in the show and that's where you're video starts to drag. But when ur riffing a little more is where you have a better draw to your episodes. I think you what might help is being a little less on what happens in the episode and a little more of your opinion it's a fine balance but if you are looking for a better example of what I'm describing I recommend looking at totally not mark. I'm not saying to copy him I just think if you look at what other people who make content do it will help you succeed more. The reason Zoro agreed to be strung up in the yard in the manga and anime, and a reason that didn't really make it across all that well in live action, was because Morgan and Helmeppo had promised him that they would let him go, and the key word in that being PROMISED. A persons words and promises are very important to Zoro, something we see with his backstory and his distrust of Nami who is a thief and a liar by nature, at least at the very beginning of the story. The reason he follows Luffy to begin with is not only because he didn't mock Zoro's dream, but because he saw Luffy as someone who sticks to their word and does exactly what they say that want to do. In a world where not even a ranking officer of the Marines can be trusted to keep a promise, a scrawny, goofy, energetic pirate is one of the few people Zoro actually found could be trusted at their word.

In the world of One Piece, a ship CAN gain a soul and come to life. This happens to the Going Merry.
As for Usuoop his dream is to be a brave warrior of the sea but heres the thing, hes ALREADY brave he just doesnt realize it. In the anime during the kuro arc, he goes off on his ow. To face Kuros pirate crew on his own despite being run off and shot in the arm by the villagers. Later on he meets people who he considers brave warriors and want to be like them never knowing that they want to be brave like HIM. He has faced insanely strong enemies and despite being scared out of his mind, he stood his ground and beat them all. And yet he still thinks hes a coward while everyone else recognize his courage and strength. Also all his big lies end up coming true throughout the series.
