    as terrifying as the ocean is, the different symbiotic relationships like the shark getting it's teeth cleaned and the fish swimming inside the jelly are quite cool to see

    As somebody that studied Marine Biology, I share your fear of octopuses. They're absolutely wonderful and amazing, but I am whole-heartedly convinced they could take us all down if they banded together.
    Edited to add: I will accept absolutely no vampire squid slander. They're just harmless lil guys that feed on detritus and make themselves look spiky so they don't get eaten.

      @@anthonylong9067 Octo comes from the ancient greek 8 and Pus which means feet, whereas the -i ending steems from latin roots. so if you wanna be really correct, then you would say Octopedes. however the word octopus has been accepted into the english language, making the plural form of octopus in the english laguage Octopuses.

      They are extremely smart, and they are extremely amazing in my opinion and I’d rather an octopus named Ceaser take over the world than a monke or a robot skele who became selfless aware. And vampire squids are cute and wholesome little creatures

    Yup, it has to do with space along with other factors. When Great White Sharks are kept in aquariums, they tend to ram into walls which injures them. These sharks can roam great distances, one has been tracked to cross the entire Atlantic. So one in an enclosure is bound to not go well. Plus it's a logistical nightmare to capture them, transport them, and relocate them into a tank all while keeping them in water. Sharks can die quickly out of the oceans no matter what those trying to move them try to do

      to be fair most casual fish keepers don't know what they're doing at all either. which is why people think for example, goldfish, have tiny lifespans when they can easily live 10+ years. I imagine the shark thing is just that on a larger scale.

    I know Colossal Squids are only really found in the Southern Ocean (Antarctica) but I'm literally petrified of them, even though there's the entire Atlantic separating me from it 🙈😂

    9:55 that’s a horseshoe crab. They’re more closely related to spiders and scorpions than crabs or anything else in the ocean. I live in Connecticut along Long Island Sound and they’re very common during the summer. I love them. They aren’t dangerous at all.

      Horseshoe crabs are chill. I remember in my marine biology class for 12th grade, we had one and named it Josh.
      It then died and we buried it in a patch of dirt near the classroom.
      RIP Josh.

      @@sandrigomez2828 there’s a species that live along the atlantic coast. Limulus Polyphemus. Im assuming that’s the type we had in my marine bio class if I remember correctly. This was back in 2009-2010 so i dont really remember
      But there are 3 others that live in parts of Asia. Namely china, japan and southeast Asia including the coast of india. Tachypleus tridentatus, tachypleus gigas, and the carcinoscorpius rotundicauda.

    Trust me, George. We have only observed less than 1% of the entire world's ocean, and the creatures that inhabited it are truly weird in our understanding, especially the lower you go.

    Fun fact, With Japanese folklore, people believed that oarfish would only come to the surface when a large earthquake was going to happen. Its been since disproven, but it turns out they like the lights on most boats.

    As a kid I really wanted to be a marine biologist and I LOVED sharks (still do) but now? Absolutely not. It's all the seaweed and lack of knowing what's down there that freaks me out

    When I was a little kid, my family went abroad on holiday. We got a little octopus in our food and my sister (probably 5 at the time) took it back to the hotel and refused to put it in the bin and tried to take it home with us

    I think I read about a Great White being kept in an aquarium, but they had to let it out because it kept swimming into the walls out of distress.
    That might not have been a Great White though, maybe a tiger shark.

    I remember loving to see the colossal squid at Te Papa (Wellington, NZ) that’s been on display in a tank since like 2003 as a kid, but it’s like decaying and the water is so murky now and now I can’t stand seeing it. I think a total of 3 squids have been on display. But it’s so icky

    when i was a kid i loved Penguins due to watching the Madagascar movies, i watched documentaries on them after a while and from that day on one of my greatest fears were leopard seals.

    One time when I was kid my family went on a trip to Greece and while at the beach my mum warned us not to pick any clear gell looking objects up because there were dangerous jellyfish in the area that often washed up on the shore.
    Guess what the first thing my dumbass did 👁👁 (and it was a jellyfish)
