  • We had an easy Friday to finish off a very busy and very hot week. We poured with a landscape company, and poured concrete for two foundations. Happy Friday!
I started this channel after I began driving cement mixer trucks in Eastern Washington. As a cement mixer truck driver, I enjoy watching trucker videos but rarely came across local truck driving jobs like cement trucks, pick-up and delivery, and construction. Judging by comments and questions I’ve seen on other truck driving channels, many people don’t realize that there is a side to the trucker lifestyle other than long haul OTR driving. I am excited to bring more truck driving content to the genre. I hope you enjoy it!
Please let me know in the comments what you like, what you don’t like, and what you’d like to see more of as I continue making videos. Thanks!

I started driving a mixer when I was 19 here in Belgium, I quit after a year and regretted my decision so much I’m starting again after New Years. I’m 22 now and gotta say, it’s the best job I ever had. Hope you’ll be making videos again soon man! Really miss seeing some new content about the job I love. I’m even considering making my own videos, showing what driving a mixer in Europe is like. There aren’t many videos around like that. Thanks for the inspiration man!

I've NEVER poured a 4" slump into a pump. They always want it at least at a 5" - but it's almost always a 6" slump, and it drives our safety guy crazy because he says it weakens the concrete way too much.. Do u remember seeing the Amazon building being almost wiped out by tornado this past summer in StLouis area? We poured that and poured it again to repair it. The contractor wanted slump at a 6"... and they wonder why the building was nearly completely annihilated. The walls are all concrete...
The ticket for the pour always says 4" slump, but as soon as we get there we have to add melchem and 20 gallons of water.. Drives our safety man crazy. We have to make note of it on our tickets to relieve us of any responsibility as to the soundness of the concrete

I was in the concrete industry for fifteen years I started out as a driver and learned how to batch and unload rail cars of aggregate and plant maintenance to a point. People think that all we did as turn the steering wheel and drive like a car that’s not even the case as you have found out that drum has a liquid load that will roll you over if you don’t pay attention and stay alert. I could not even explain how or what happens if that pump runs dry the boom pumps we generally would see had alert button so the pump operator knew to stop before boom now time to clean up all the splatter from letting it run dry. If you never have delivered previous that is something that can’t even explain it’s mostly chemicals I am enjoying the videos.

You should make videos again! Love your content!
I ran a mixer for about 6 months and i loved it so much. I always thought i would never be in a mixer but i decided to finally apply and give it a shot and sure enough, i loved it! I hated the truck/chute pours at first but overtime, it was honestly kind of fun. Little change of pace compared to getting loaded, slumping up and backing up to a pump and standing on the back bumper pouring lol. Got to do Shotcrete, special tiny chip mix(don't remember much), colored mix design(was usually a different shade of gray),curb machine, went on a military base for curb, that was pretty cool. I even volunteered to work on a Saturday when we normally never do, it was from 4am - 11 am on a 200yd job with a mix design with like 1 1/2 inch rock. Just a basic pad for Brundage Bone Concrete Pumping's yard. That job was crazy as it was super super fast paced and full discharge into the pump and i mean FULL. We were side by side so once i was done, the other guy starts. Lots of wheelbarrows and buggy's for sure, going high into the hills where you can see the whole city, I could go on and on and on lol. Developed a lot of good relationships with different crews and had some pretty amazing people training me.Tablet system was so convenient too, you just get assigned orders, you accept, pull around fill up your water and back under the plant. There was a menu of all the truck numbers(kind of had to memorize who was who) and tap their number and pick up the radio. Another company i was with, you had to do a lot more manual entering of yards and this and that and it was an open CB channel and had to announce you were back in the yard and so on.

For my money, one of the worst pours is footers or walls...for a crew too cheap to have a pump rig (greed...but they end up losing their ass on Truck Time).
Only the veteran guys were sent on these horrible jobs; you had to be a maneuvering expert, know how to use every half INCH of space to reach these footers. On either side of your mixer was a nice drop so NO ROOM FOR ERROR. Our company finally told these half wits "Hey, no pump, no mud."
They started using the pumps. It was even challenging for the front dischargers, but it was HELL for the Rear dischargers...LOL...that sounded AWFUL!!
As hellish as those pours were, when it was done I was very proud of having wrangled my Mack back there and wondered "How the HELL did I get back in there?"
Then I thanked The Lord and headed back to the "barn" as oru dispatcher called the yard.
I never liked driving the front end mixers; I love the conventional with it's long hood. Also, it's claustrophobic in that little space in the front ends.
Thanks for another great video...this retired driver misses it...I miss hauling asphalt as well. Driving a dump truck was like getting paid for playing TONKA TRUCK for REAL.
One other thing; Do you agree there is not much that can match the peacefulness of a Quarry as it's getting dark; you're the last truck in and the dispatcher gives you your start time and tells you to lock the gate. I'd see foxes all the time and deer I think a ghost one time!

What kind of “physical” is involved daily.

    • @vaekkriinhart4347
      @vaekkriinhart4347 Před rokem +1

not much. the most physical part of the job is adding shoots and climbing ur ladder on ur truck to wash in and out. It's not a physical job at all. It's all mental combined with driving skills n people skills

Every truck is different. Some like to shift in the higher range like 1900-2000 and some like a lower range of 1600-1700. My Kenworth T-800 likes the low range.

Question, How much Down time do you guys have in your area, because I started Redi-Mix a few weeks ago and legit quit after the 3rd week, but it wasn't because of the work, it was because they had a lot of "busy work". Do they ever have you guys pour concrete in your own lot at home base when you have over a yard and a half for blocks or to expand the parking lot?? Do they have you guys clean out the shop and the bins over the conveyor??
