- (ASSOCIATED PRESS) Four men accused of staging the Russia concert hall attack that killed more than 130 people appeared before a Moscow court Sunday on terrorism charges showing signs of severe beatings. One appeared to be barely conscious during the hearing.
Court statements said two of the suspects accepted their guilt in the assault, though the men’s condition raised questions about whether they were speaking freely. There had been conflicting reports in Russian media outlets that said three or all four men admitted culpability.
The investigators charged Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, 32; Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, 30; Shamsidin Fariduni, 25; and Mukhammadsobir Faizov, 19, with committing a terrorist attack resulting in the death of others. The offense carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Moscow's Basmanny District Court ordered that the men, all of whom were identified in the media as citizens of Tajikistan, be held in custody until May 22 pending investigation and trial.
Russian media had reported that the men were tortured during interrogation by the security services, and Mirzoyev, Rachabalizoda and Fariduni showed signs of heavy bruising, including swollen faces.
Rachabalizoda also had a heavily bandaged ear. Russian media said Saturday that one of the suspects had his ear cut off during interrogation. The Associated Press couldn’t verify the report or the videos purporting to show this.
The fourth suspect, Faizov, was brought to court from a hospital in a wheelchair and sat with his eyes closed throughout the proceedings. He was attended by medics while in court, where he wore a hospital gown and trousers and was seen with multiple cuts.
Court officials said Mirzoyev and Rachabalizoda admitted guilt for the attack after being charged.
The hearings came as Russia observed a national day of mourning for the attack Friday on the suburban Crocus City Hall concert venue that killed at least 137 people.
The attack, which has been claimed by an affiliate of the Islamic State group, was the deadliest on Russian soil in years.
Russian authorities arrested the four suspected attackers Saturday, with seven more people detained on suspicion of involvement in the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an address to the nation Saturday night. He sought to tie the attack to Ukraine and claimed the assailants were captured while fleeing there. Kyiv has firmly denied involvement.

The terror attack took place just 2 miles from a national security station yet they took 90 minutes to get there and what benefit does the US or Ukraine gain from from killing ~113 random civilians as opposed to Putin literally getting a justification for another mass conscription under the pretext of dealing with "Ukrainian" terrorist who came from Tajikistan from Turkey, even though Ukraine is already preoccupied trying to blow up Russian oil refineries (which actually gives them benefit) and targeting Russian battleships and radar systems that are all great targets that do actual damage to their combat capability? And funnily enough there was also the Belarusian border nearby that would be much easier to pass through than the border of a country currently in war with Russia that has Russian soldiers stationed at every road entryway. Given that Russian intelligence gathering is almost/just as good as US intelligence gathering I won't be shocked that Putin allowed it to happen so he can rile up the citizens of Russia to continue the war with Ukraine

They quite literally were given ample warning by the United States Intelligence services that an imminent terror attack was being planned by ISIS within Russia's borders and to be extremely vigilant and/ or cancel any concerts or large gatherings. Russia and Putin completely ignored these warnings and did nothing to stop the shooters despite LITERALLY being told concerts were a target. Furthermore they took over an hour to have a remotely adequate emergency response, no doubt dooming countless dozens of lives that may have been saved if emergency responses were faster.
Given these facts, I don't know how any sane, rational individual who isn't a Russian State Propagandist could possibly believe that Russia "knows how to fight crime" when they very decidedly *DID NOT* fight the crime in this case, only apprehending the shooters hundreds of miles away due to a fluke and sheer chance of local police pulling over the shooters' van.

I was able to support an orphanage for a few years off $400/mo as a working middle class American. If they were from Yemen, Iraq, Tajikistan or several other places, then the exchange rates would be even greater. Just stating the facts not supporting or encouraging said actions.
