It makes me sad how people think Digimon is a copy of Pokémon, when it's honestly really different! The only similarities to Pokémon are the fact it has monsters and the word "mon" in the title. Also, I think the possibility of Digimon being "real" (like an AI or something similar) makes it cooler than Pokémon to me, although I still enjoy Pokemon a lot. I love how Digimon is more mature, and it's starting to cater to the older audience a lot more now! (❁´◡`❁)

Hi!! I love your videos, please keep making them!
Interesting note about how One Piece was distributed here in the US that might explain why it’s not as well known:
When the anime first started airing here with an English dub, it was handled by a company called 4kids. 4kids primarily localized anime in a way that targeted very young audiences, so a lot of the serious story beats in the show were glossed over to be more “appropriate” for children. Because of this, many viewers saw the show as too childish and uninteresting and the series left the mainstream until the early 2010’s when a company called Funimation started handling the localization. While the manga had been in publication for a long time here, its popularity was greatly influenced by how the anime localization was being handled. Ever since Funimation took over, the series has slowly been regaining popularity here! One Piece is one of my favorite series of all time, and I didn’t start reading it until a few years ago!

I got into One Piece on an online friend's recommendation back when the anime was about to reach Water 7. I was so into it at the time that when I caught up, I restarted it from the beginning two times. After that I've been watching it either episode by episode weekly or sometimes I let it air for 5-10 and then catch up again.
The world-building is very fascinating. As Shugy-san said, it seems to be starting to near the end. After all this time, I'm really looking forward to finding out how the story concludes. Though I also wouldn't be surprised if it kept going for a few more years. :D
The manga is amazing, but I'm more of an anime guy... I like voice-acting, animation and colors too much. To me it's somewhat incredible how the significant characters sound the same they did over a decade ago. :D

One Piece has sort of a checkered history on American TV. It aired on the same channel as hits like Yu-Gi-Oh on Saturday mornings, but it was held back by a low quality dub and several odd censorship choices. It was eventually taken off the air and didn’t return to American TV for several years. In the meantime, Naruto aired on Cartoon Network every afternoon and just took hold of the audience. Coupled with the “cool” factor of the ninja theme (this was a time when Japanese culture was breaking into America in a very big way), this meant Naruto has always been more popular than One Piece in the US. These days I think it has more of an audience, though I think the two anime that your average American is liable to think of are Naruto and Dragon Ball Z-they’re the kings of the hill

    @SmileyFaceEmoticon01 Před 3 lety

Disclaimer this is just what I think! I could be wrong but this is just why i think it got popular.
To me why i think people know more anime from the 2000s rather than the 90s is actually quite simple! When the west (USA) realized in the 90s how marketable it was (i think the success of pokemon helped proved that) They started to invest more into the market. So because of that there was more anime being dubbed to english, some television channels having dedicated blocks to anime like "Toonami".
Also not only anime was being localized in the west but also manga to! Not only that but also the internet was a lot different in the 2000s compared to the 90s people could just upload videos talking about anime and manga, people could make and participate in online forums specifically for anime to. The internet was also starting to get alot more popular and more mainstream!
TLDR: Personally why i think anime got super popular in the 2000s is because it was
    1. extremely popular and marketable
    2. there was a ton of anime and manga that got localized.
    3. the internet was getting really popular so spreading animes appeal online whether its forums, videos, fanfiction, fanart, fansites, websites dedicated to anime and manga, etc.

to be fair.. these kids are not in their 30's most likely. I grow up watching the Anime Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin when i was 6 or 7. on Vhs tape. still one of my favorite 21 episode Anime of all time. these kids are 2000's. and grow up with alot of new tech. while we etc me born 1987 had a 13 years period were internet wasn't a thing. and social media all that Garbage the kids nowadays bury their heads into. i then watched tons of Anime since then. Japan has such great taste in stories. Edit : One Piece is the best show ever ^^ watched the whole thing 3 times.

For me, I can’t watch anime series that have a heck lota episodes such as naruto and one piece because
    A. It takes so much time that I need to do homework
    B. After a long time I’ll get bored of it and stop watching it and if I get into it again, I’ll be super behind on episodes so it’s really tiring.

Death Note is my all time favorite anime of all time and even though I grew up with this, this is what made my life better alongside Pokemon. Death Note for me,is like a remedy to all of my problem. I was only 8 when it came out and I used to watch this every morning before going to school. I wanted to become Kira because of Light Yagami, but everyone kept laughing at me at school for trying to pretend to be him. I even wrote my name as "Light Yagami" on my school assignment and my teacher fell for it and called me Light instead of my real name. It turns out that she just played along because she also happened to love Death Note too. After school, there was always another episode of Death Note on tv and I've encountered L,who has became my favorite character. Thanks to him,I sat just like him and ate lots of cake lol. Even at school I was sitting exactly like him. Everyone called me L because of that and even my parents. For Halloween as a kid,I dressed up as L from Death Note. L means so much to me. When L died,a huge part of me died and I cried for a whole month nonstop. Nobody could replace him. He was my inspiration,my idol,my hero,my everything in life. He was my senpai. He made me be who I am today. Because I could'nt achieve my dream to become Kira anymore because people kept laughing at me,I decided to become a Detective like L someday. I still don't give up on my dream. Fictional character or not.I believed in him. I believed he was with me throughout the years. It's really hard to say goodbye to hi. When my parents were wondering why I was crying,I told them that L died. They cried too upon hearing what I've just said. My life was very rough before Death Note became a thing, but thank god this anime happened and it saved my life. I've made my own Death Note notebook and brought it to school. I never got in trouble because my teacher knew me too well. You see,i'm a special need kid With Microcephaly and learning difficulties so it's one of the many reasons I got away with it. She covered me. One time I was sitting like L on the couch and my parents said it was a miracle that I was able to do that. I absolutely love Ryuk,as well as Sidoh,my favorite Shinigami. Whished he appeared more in the anime like he did in the manga by the way. I was Super said when Sidoh left and did not come back. I could not believed it when L died. At first,I thought he was faking it and he would return in the next episode as a plot twist. But.. Instead I saw Roger at The Wammy's House telling Mello and Near that.. L is death. I cried so real hard. L was precious to me. I was very suicidal after that and I wanted to jump off. Then,I met Near. I had a strange feeling. My heartbeat was fast. I thought it wasn't possible. Yet,it was. I felt like L actually didn't left me and I was right. He didn't technically left, but he sen Near to look after me so I could move on. Near is like a guardian angel to me. I started playing with my hair after he did. My mom noticed and cd died to call me Near. I literally shattered and cried the second she called me that. But those weren't sad tears. They were happy tears. Thanks to Near,I got my motivation back. I ended up not killing myself. He saved me from potential death. I wouldn't be alive if it was'nt for him. He made me happy when i'm down. I was relating to him. I've shared similarities with him. I felt connected to him. At school,my teacher noticed me playing with my hair. I told her it's because I saw a new character called Near and I grew attached to him. Hearing this, she called me Near and she smiled. Later on in December, she wanted to talk in private with me and she have me something very precious s that I should keep and to never lose it. It was a heart pendant and inside was a picture of Near. I died and promised to keep it. She knew she wanted Near to stay with me and to protect me. She was right. He did. To this day,I am still grieving over L's death. I hope you'll be able to find this comment and read it.

The reason one piece isn't as popular in the west is because the first localization of the show censored alot of stuff like cigarettes or guns and people thought one piece as more of a show for little kids like pokemon.

I stopped watching One Piece even though i really like it. I cant catch up anymore because there are a lot of episodes. I am just waiting for it to end and to know what is One Piece. Although honestly I'm ready to be disappointed. What could One Piece be that it deserves a thousand of chapters/episodes. I think it would be something complicated/hardToUnderstand that viewers would fight what it really is even after they reveal what it is.
