    Great device test video as always. I like your unbiased view/opinion on devices and you call out a device when it performs better than the other. It is interesting that iPhone 15 Pro's CPU is much faster in benchmarking apps however in day to day activities difference is minuscule. Couple of days ago I received my Pixel 8 and set it up. I like the size of the device, feel in the hand and the fact that it is running an Android which was tweaked by Google. My Geek bench 6 score was 1556 for single-core and 3729 for multi. Device is barely warm.

    Decided to go for the pixel for the smoothness mostly and so happy so far but we'll see if it performs well in the battery and overheating areas. I got tired of samsung's frame drops and laggy UI. The only thing I'd complain about is that I let some apps open at night and went to sleep and the next day most of them were completely closed for some reason when it should've held them open in the background, I don't know why it did that, maybe it was to save battery but it was suspicious. Normally it doesn't do it but it happened, we'll see in the coming weeks

    hey small question, how come the iphone is always being compared against?

  • @_Refurbished_
    @_Refurbished_ Před 9 měsíci +20

    Yes, the Pixel loads slightly quicker in "some" apps...but then when you go to scroll it's a lagfest. The speed of a phone is not determined solely on how long it takes for an app to load, that's only one part of the OS's speed (a highly overrated one at that). The entire OS needs to feel smooth and responsive in many tasks and inside the apps themselves. Without using a phone for a few days, it's very hard to determine the overall speed of a device. Glossing over the scrolling choppiness as some "minor" detail is pretty nonsensical.

    • @wrakor
      @wrakor Před 9 měsíci +2

Still, I do not understand why people make such a big deal out of it. For me, I really can't stand the scrolling on iPhones. You have to scroll 10x as often (also taking 10x more time) if you want to scroll down in a long list.

    As a fan of both iPhone and Pixel, i find myself enjoying the Pixel setup more because of all the cool and useful features. I also like how you can customize your photos more with Pixels. Then i just prefer the widgets on android and the always on display. Apple may have the more powerful chips but in real world experience I've noticed Pixels seem to be faster at opening apps where iOS tends to feel slower. Ultimately it comes down to personal preference but for me iOS just lacks innovation and the OS is a bit boring in 2023.

    Mobile apps are not hand optimized for a specfic CPU. I write mobile apps, desktop apps, and firmware for a living. This is just simply performance problems with the PIxel. Probably the Tensor (Exynos) is not coming out of low power states fast enough or the frequency ramp is too slow.

    regarding the benchmark point, yes sure right now i doesn't matter, however, down the line 3-4-5 years with the phone the difference won't be this close and that benchmark will matter eventually, especially on a phone that promises 7 years of os upgrades, it need the hardware to be relevant to that point.

      It's an interesting point. Although, I find the Pixel 2 (my backup phone) still very usable, problem is that it doesn't have security updates anymore. That problem is now fixed with the 8 Pro. As for performance, for daily tasks that do not require AI, each of these will still be fine. For daily tasks that do require AI (there will be more and more of these) the Pixel will probably do better. We have to wait and see.
