- Home to Amazon.com, Apple Inc., Cisco, eBay, General Motors, Google, IBM, Intel, Oracle Corporation, PayPal, Texas Instruments, and Whole Foods, Austin is the fastest growing large city in the United States. U.S. News & World Report named Austin the #1 place to live in the U.S. for 2017 and 2018.
By the 1990's, Austin emerged as a center for technology and business. Dell's worldwide headquarters is located in a nearby suburb, Round Rock. Austin is the capital of the U.S. state of Texas, the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the 4th-most populous city in Texas.
In 2016, Forbes ranked Austin #1 on its "Cities of the Future" list, then in 2017 placed the city at that same position on its list for the "Next Biggest Boom Town in the U.S." Also in 2017, Forbes awarded the South River City neighborhood of Austin its #2 ranking for "Best Cities and Neighborhoods for Millennials". WalletHub named Austin the #6 best place in the country to live for 2017. The FBI ranked Austin as the #2 safest major city in the U.S. for 2012.
Austin is the second most populous state capital after Phoenix, Arizona, and the southernmost state capital in the contiguous United States. As of the U.S. Census Bureau's July 1, 2018 estimate, Austin had a population of 964,254 up from 790,491 at the 2010 census. Located in Central Texas within the greater Texas Hill Country, it is home to numerous lakes, rivers, and waterways, including Lady Bird Lake and Lake Travis on the Colorado River, Barton Springs, McKinney Falls, and Lake Walter E. Long.
In the 1830s, pioneers began to settle the area in central Austin along the Colorado River. In 1839, the site was chosen to replace Houston as the capital of the Republic of Texas and was incorporated under the name "Waterloo". Shortly afterward, the name was changed to Austin in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the "Father of Texas" and the republic's first secretary of state. The city grew throughout the 19th century and became a center for government and education with the construction of the Texas State Capitol and the University of Texas at Austin.
Residents of Austin are known as Austinites. They include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, musicians, high-tech workers, and blue-collar workers. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as "The Live Music Capital of the World," a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues, as well as the long-running PBS TV concert series Austin City Limits. The city also adopted "Silicon Hills" as a nickname in the 1990s due to a rapid influx of technology and development companies. In recent years, some Austinites have adopted the unofficial slogan "Keep Austin Weird," which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations. In the late 19th century, Austin was known as the "City of the Violet Crown," because of the colorful glow of light across the hills just after sunset. Even today, many Austin businesses use the term "Violet Crown" in their name. Austin is known as a "clean-air city" for its stringent no-smoking ordinances that apply to all public places and buildings, including restaurants and bars.

Bro how is Austin?
I'm in Uganda and I have never been to US but these videos make me fall in love with America over and over

That's one of the best - if not the best - driving videos of Austin I've ever seen. Austin really is one of the nicest, cleanest, and most beautiful cities in the entire country.
No wonder it’s the fastest growing city in the country. With over 100 people moving in a day.
*one year later*
I heard there is no income tax in texas, is that right?
@@thetaleofrain There is no state income tax in Texas. But there is a combined state, city and county sales tax of 8.25%. Property taxes in Austin are very high. I live in a mobile home on a half acre of land in a food desert of Austin and the property taxes run about $2800 a year. In 2010 they were about $600 a year.
Austin is where you move because joe Rogan tells you to, and if you don’t he won’t book you at his club.
Seeing all of those trees in Downtown Austin really makes it look very nice.
When I'm bored from my studies I came here and watch any video of Utah channel, which is actually fresh my mind; focus back what I need to do further with ease.

Driving videos always look happier when it’s sunny. ☺️
Very true. Had it been Europe, it might have been greyish due to weather, which looks less vibrant. Sunny is positive!!

I liked seeing the publisher of the Austin Chronicle pass by on 6th street
Traffic is usually way worse!
I love right by west slaughter and i cant sleep because of how loud the cars are.
@@gsaustin74
Where in west slaughter? Isn’t that one of the longer roads?
I lived in Austin in the 80's. It is much prettier than what you are seeing here. West and NW Austin is very scenic around Lake Austin and Lake Travis. The hills are breathtaking.
Probably not.
Can you please make another video on Atlanta.
1st visualization, like and comment. Thanks J. Utah!
very nice>> thank you.

Wow very nice place ...I’m from Nepal 🇳🇵 but I want 2 be there
It’s beautiful
Hi. What kind of dash cam are you using?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank You ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Austin is beautiful! I enjoyed the 10 years I lived there. I may have missed it... did he drive by the new (at that time) Jenga building? Possibly it wasn't completed yet. Oh, and right at 50 minutes, you see the traffic on I-35, and this is possibly the worst part of living in Austin.
man i wish i could go back to austin
Amazing
Hellooo nustro austin tx.😍
This is NOT a typical Austin day on the road. There ALOT ALOT ALOT more traffic. Must have driven on a Sunday morning. Lol!
It looks so beautiful, I come from Germany and love usa.But it sees everything slower than with us from we have on "Autobahn" no speed Limit.
autobahn is full of potholes
Nice.
This really makes me see how stressful driving can be
Wuow is mooie siuda de Austin
Good Job
Wow that's an interesting way to park cars
Nice downtown & campus. Very clean. Lots of trees. The traffic moves at a nice pace without people being immature or rude. What about the neighborhoods? Downtown Austin looks like a CBD, not very residential.
Austin has change a lot recently
Man as of 2021 it looks so different.
Wish it was like this today

I was French born in Paris and my dream is to come and live in the United States. And as a rather affordable city at the end of the price of living, I may perhaps move to Austin later. After first, I will come to the United States on vacation to see it in person because it is not good to have an idea without having really seen it.
Why do you want to move to the US? Do you like living in a car dependent place?
@@sajanaryal6932 Yes but when I wrote this message I was not yet mature lol (Yes in 10 months I matured). So now I would like to visit the US but not particularly inhabited. But it comes back to the same debate. Which city would you recommend me to visit please ? (Price, place...).
@@monolap222 Oh okay thank you for this informations
@@monolap222 The biggest difference between european cities and american cities is that the european ones emphasize humans over cars. They have much better public transportation systems and are very walkable and bikeable. Most places in the US look identical to each other. Majority of the US is crappy and car dependent and full of ugly and inefficient stroads that give you the highway feeling in every grid. It's true that you shouldn't judge the entire country by looking at one city but if you do some research, most american cities look very similar as they follow the same euclidean zoning pattern.
There are only a handful number of cities (some of which you mentioned above) that have similar walkability and transportation system compared to average european cities. But even those are affected by car dependency as they are surrounded by car dependent suburbs and highways literally go through them. Plus you don't find much pedestrianized streets and the roads are almost as wide as highways. Compared to this, european cities have narrower roads, several pedestrianized streets, better biking infrastructure and they contain several alleys that are totally devoid of cars. This is what makes most european cities more livable than american cities.
@@monolap222 I admit I haven't been to Europe but have done a lot of research. I live in the US in Nashville right now and have been to more states than most Americans have, or at least that's what they tell me. It seems like you completely and utterly missed my point about livability and car dependency lol. I don't care if you find most of Europe to be boring. That is totally subjective and has nothing to do with infrastructure. My point is that the European ones emphasize walkability and their public transportation systems are far superior to the US. Look at the infrastructure and city design of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for instance. The primary method of transportation there is walking and biking. Then comes trams, metro and finally cars as automobiles shouldn't be the primary method of transportation. And while the European countries, Japan, China, etc are building high speed railways to connect their cities, US is still building highways lol. Majority of the US, in my opinion, is an absolute wasteland. Almost all cities have this central compact downtown with some skyscrapers (although some have more parking lots than buildings) and they instantly descend to car dependent suburbia nonsense as soon as you leave the downtown. I suggest you to look up "Not Just Bikes" who talks about underdeveloped american cities and suburbs are.
Austin is the only major city I haven't been to in my own state.
