  • Austin is known for its local food, great live music, and keeping it weird.
Its a great place to live and visit, thanks to low taxes and low crime rate. It's a party town and the music capital of the US. This video about Austin is more than a travel guide.

I’ve lived in Austin for a few years. It’s a great place for jobs and young people. It’s one the prettier areas of Texas with beautiful nature. It’s very warm in the summer but the rest of the year is nice. If you are coming just to visit, don’t come in the summer unless you like sweating a lot.

Austin leans to the progressive side in many ways, but it's in the middle of a very, very, very conservative state with an economy built on oil and gas production. It is too late. Austin has already been overrun by corporate America. Iconic Threadgills is gone (probably replaced by a Starbucks). My brother-in-law owned a wine bar downtown that had live music most nights (a staple of downtown Austin pre 2020s), but megacorps made bids on the lot that just priced him out, so now there is a Starbucks or some shit there.
In closing, everyone coming to Austin now is just feasting on the corpse of what Austin used to be.

Thats the thing tho.. Red states tend to be more poorer/welfare states/low cost of living, they don't bring in much money, they are easy to survive in, as I live in one too, I don't mind living here, its cheap, but lot of low wage jobs, no real innovation here. While when you see modernization that liberalism brings in with tech/higher wage jobs/higher cost of living/surplus of money towards the state, which makes homes more costly, property/taxes, greedy politicians, it only takes time til it becomes like any expensive liberal city. If your able to survive in those areas, that goods, need the skills; no skills, the odds of homeless much higher.

Its why our red welfare states are soo poor, nothing changes here where im at, poor education, poor jobs, poor everywhere, everything has been the dam same past 30 years! Austin today isn't what it was or what it was know for. Back then rent was super cheap, no name musicans and garage bands could afford a decent living. Once the wealthy from out of state started buying up all the property and raising the market value of homes made it hard for musicans to afford a place to live. Now it's also including SIN workers. Most people who work hotels and restaurants can't afford to live here either. The one thing that made this city great is the one thing that will destroy its beauty.

The rest of the 80% are struggling or living paycheck to paycheck. For those struggling their just 1 accident from a major financial disaster. Diversity of the population in the city is there but there is no inclusiveness at all and you can tell by reading Austin Business Journal. It's a very segregated city. However, I do miss a lot of the Black owned businesses with which I grew up. Due to massive gentrification in certain areas, Austin has definitely taken on a new vibe in parts of the city that use to be much more laid back and some areas just flat out dead. But a few things I love about my hometown include the “Big city” experience with the small town feel; the Black Chamber of Commerce, the great support the city gives to local musicians, SXSW Film/Music Festival (amazing), and I can’t leave out our boy… Matthew McConaughey!!😊
