"Parent" is debatable at best by the end of Halo 4. For Cortana that is. Either way, I would have loved to see Mendez being interrogated by this guy. Maybe we'll get to see the father of the S-IIs in Halo 6.

One possible reason. In the books the librarian essence is in Halsey as per spartan ops when she meets her. Master chief has the ISO Didactic essence in him. They were married in the forerunner sarga. So I think there is a connection there

It's extremely expensive to render CGI models as far as I'm concerned.
I know it leaves a bad taste in our mouths, but I understand why they used their current artstyle over the previous for the opening flashbacks. It's just way too freaking expensive, man. I doubt that's worth it when they're showcased for about a minute or so.
Again, bad taste, but it's definitely justifiable. Just don't take it too seriously.

Bighat The Star Nomad Well they succeeded with halo 4. I honestly think was tied for 2nd best story with halo 2 and behind reach. Halo 4s story was more emotional and impactful than the rest. You could actually tell there was a human under that mask, who wasn’t just a killing machine, but had feelings.
But halo 5s story was trash.

Yes. I thought it was awesome; however not sure if I liked it as much as Halo 4's. Both of them were great for sure. Its real awesome to see Captain Lasky, Buck an Osiris there straight away and the banters great! As for the action I'm glad its really depicting Spartans properly (according to the books/lore) however I can also kinda understand the criticism of it being like superheros. The music is incredible. Yes, but like Master Chief, most spend a lot of time in cryosleep, so the effects of aging are slowed. They will still all get old and eventually die though.

In the first trilogy, they wanted to make you feel like you were Master Chief, a near unstoppable fighting machine taking on thousands of alien forces and walking off without a scratch.
In this trilogy, they "humanize" Master Chief. He has emotions, actually worries about Cortana's rampancy more than ever, and give him more lines to show he isn't a simple robot.
That's how I see it

I don't think they had any ODST models, and making ODST models for this one little intro would be kind of a waste of money, time, and other shit.
They were obsolete. Chief as a kid took on five of them and came out without a scratch. Orbital Dropship Troops are merely tasked with gaining a foothold on a planet, and for defense. When the Spartans came around, the ODSTs just became a hold the line for reinforcements team. Not to say that they couldn't fight, they gave the Covenant Hell, from Reach to Earth, as Spartan numbers had dwindled. Chief however is the reason that humanity won. The Covenant had way more resources than humanity, and could fight a long drawn out war. Earth defense fleet was shattered, and reinforcements were far away. If the Spartans didn't exist, the ODST wouldn't have been able to defend planets.
You get a ODST turned Spartan in halo 5, you good with that?
It's not a problem because the entire battle in the opening scene doesn't have to be taken as a literal event, it's simply a symbolic representation of the Human-Covenant war. There's no indication of when or where it takes place, it's just there to show the ruthlessness of the Covenant, humanity's hopeless situation and how the Spartan-IIs brought hope to humanity as they were the only ones strong enough to strike back.

Because CG rendering is expensive. Making your own models is even more expensive. Much cheaper to use the existing ones, which is why the marines also wear their Halo 4 combat armor instead of their halo 1, reach, 2, or 3

It still amazes me that they got this much performance out of a console that has only 512 MB of ram... why are people so concerned that 8 GB of ram in the new xbox is not enough when they can do this with only a fraction of that power...

This interrogator was really interesting. I love the new Halo Games as much as the old ones, but I feel this is something that 343 forgot about. This interrogator must be linked to Locke somehow...at least I hope so. Halsey even states he is something else.

fuck me even in this there's hints at the larger halo universe, everything is connected, just got done reading the books, read all the terminals from halo 3 and watched all the terminal vids from the other Halo games, there's so much under the surface, it's too bad the games have never properly implemented the lore too well always too quick to push the player off to kill some more.
bungie was always really too cryptic leaving it so only real nerds (I mean that in a good way) understand, 343 at least is trying to bring more narrative, I just wish 343 could get some really talented people to work on the story telling in game, like Naughty dog level of story telling.
if they manage to do something like that with Halo 5 the series will be so much better for it.

They overdosed on geometry and 75% of the helmets don't even have visors. Forge and custom games sucked. It was stupid how Spartans are being recruited now. The may have brought the BR back but they got rid of so many things. There's a bunch of other things but I can't remember at the moment.

I know people argue that reach or 3 the last good halo games, but i think the last one was 4. More just story wise. It had such a good ending in my opinion, because everything seemed resolved. Despite Cortana, it would have been a great way to see Chief to begin to give up on the UNSC after this. And finally leave.

If they made a game for first contact, where you started of doing missions against humans, but eventually lead up to what it was like to be in the pure CHAOS of contact harvest.
And even cooler if it had an alternate campaign where you play as the covenant, leading up to the end of the campaign when you first meet the Spartans and master chief maybe? And how overwhelming they are.
Maybe even just a historical side story game with a campaign filled with all the coolest battles from the game lore, including first contact moments.

Like Playing as the covenant forces that "first" came into contact with the spartans (which was right after they got their first Mojnir armor), or what it was like during the period when the covenant was still trying to establish control over the grunts.
There are plenty of good halo lore stories that they could make side story campaigns out of.
Yeah, I suppose. But what I really need is a Halo: Arbiter game, that'll be awesome. I'd buy collectors edition if they made one. The Arbiter is my favourite game character of all time.

+jack duval I suppose the best option is to say Cortana had the seeds of the logic plague planted in her from her time with the grave mind, or that Cortana isn't Cortana and is actually a part of her controlled by the Didact or the warden, something like that. They will then need to improve the characters like the members of blue team and fireteam Osiris as they had no emotion in halo 5 which sucked as they finally started developing the chief's character in halo 4 for nothing, they could have shown amazing interactions with blue team and chief and also parallels between the new and the old Spartans and how they work differently and what their mission objectives are.

Halo 4 was a narrative masterpiece, Chris Schlerf really outdid himself writing a story for this game, I'm so disappointed with Halo 5's sloppy characterization and cliche writing. 343 needs to fire Brian Reed.

If you're complaining about this then complain about halo reach. they should all be wearing mark v armour but nearly all of the spartan's armours are different.

2:09 This was why I wasn't as apprehensive to the Spartan IVs at first. Wondering if what made these "heroes," these literal super soldiers so efficient was the fact they lacked humanity was an interesting dilemma. I thought they'd show us a generation of soldiers entirely expressive, smug, and confident, but in the end, not as powerful as Chief and the other Spartan IIs and IIIs. It would've been a cool idea to pose: if having humanity was a necessity to protect well... humanity, or retaining it was what held them back.
Of course, we didn't go ANYWHERE near that idea, but it was a nice thought I had for awhile...

When the music at the beginning with the title screen came up, I just stood there like damn. That title screen with that mildly creepy music is what started the halo franchise for me, after completing halo 4 I just needed more. Now I’m a big fan again and it’s was so nostalgic hearing that.

Here’s my fan fiction of halo 5 :
Agent locke could’ve been this secretly bioengineered spartan created to rival Chiefs skills, known as the spartan X, a new class of his own. The interrogator could’ve been the scientist that created Locke, ultimately to replace Chief. which would explain why he was interrogating Halsey, it’s because he was studying her work. Locke then Would be ordered in secret to hunt down Chief, after chief doing something terrible.
Chief would abandon UNSC out of the blue to revive Cortana seeking help from the forerunners. The forerunners decide to “help” Chief, but really, they end up accessing confidential files/information that would put infinity at jeopardy like to lure infinity and implant a powerful hidden virus within Cortana’s system. Infinity pursuing chief fly’s to his location and once they’re close by, Cortana makes contact with the ship, the virus then implanted within her takes over the ship, crippling all security barriers leaving infinity absolutely defenceless. Infinity make a run for it after some disturbance. at this point they suspect chief has betrayed them, but ONI or someone believes he actually has and sends Locke to bring him in.
Now Locke decides to hunt him down cuz he personally believes chief has become a big threat to all humanity. And that’s when the drama begins. I have sooo much to add to this but it’d take a lot to type it down, maybe I’ll have it written out sometime

People aren't really sure but they speculate he's either an ONI spook, someone high up in the Spartan IV program, someone from Hunt The Truth or someone from an organisation we haven't been introduced to in the Expanded Universe.

***** She's spent enough years with ONI that she's able to weed them out well enough. Could be somebody involved in the S-IV program. It would be nice to get some gameplay extending into this possibility.
It's nothing someone from ONI. That much was made obvious from her statement in the cutscene. "What are you after? The others before you were Naval Intelligence. But you...you're something else." And considering that high-ranking Spartan IV personnel were mainly from the Spartan IV and (partially) the Spartan III classes, I wouldn't exactly think they'd be interrogating her. They'd most likely be handling the Spartan Branch. What we could suspect is that it's someone from possibly *outside* the UNSC. Let's think... How about the judicial entity that controls the UNSC, the UEG? They're a prime candidate, considering they'd have a vested interest in Halsey and the crimes she's committed.
@@thezucc2927 No way the UEG could have the clout to get that close to someone like Halsey. If ONI let it slip they were harboring someone like Halsey who committed crimes against humanity, they'd be ripped apart. The only thing I have thought of is that it's someone who was in on the development of the S-IV program. If S-IV was already up and running they wouldn't be consulting her about her Spartans. It would also explain the disgust since Jun and Musa were two of the men who spearheaded it so there would have been probable interaction with both of them (being S-II and S-II respectively)

am i the only one that gets pissed about the fact that spartan 3s were never mentioned in this cutscene? they did badass things in operation torpedo, and Prometheus, but are rarely mentioned in the halo lore
Cause for the most part they were classified and used as suicide troops. Surviving S3's have been retired or entered into the S4 program though.
We can assume she was referring to all the Spartans ( including 3s) who we've played as up to this point

in order to keep the image of Spartans from failing and having humans lose hope, they read their files MIA to keep their image strong. Master Chief was the only hope.
I love how all of these flashbacks happened just before the events of *Halo 4* including where we see a random Spartan IV in Mark VI Gen 1 at the time recieve another Cortana copy from Doctor Halsey.
In *Halo 5: Guardians* the flashback we see in the beginning happens 3 months after the events of *Halo 4* and its truly amazing once you see how the story truly forms into place throughout both of these games.
Do not underestimate them, above all, do not underestimate him. prophetic words wouldn't you say? Love this cutscene.

I hate it when people on the Internet call each other names when clearly they don't know them. Meet them, get to know them, and then you can judge them. But if you don't agree with what their opinion is, don't hate on them. That's their own opinion based on their likes and dislikes. There are reasons why we have our own brains and not any of them is to hate on people with different views.
