    Itty Bitty's doing great, you all do a great job. Been fishing in Wyoming, drove 33 miles to get reception, so I could see all the new piggies. I definitely have learned alot from your operation. Your all great problem solvers. Caring, loving people and yes I have made the change.

    Love your content! Sorry for the loss of the piglet, I know it’s just a part of the process sometimes.

    Once again I want to tell you what an awesome job you do! Some homestead places are such a hit or miss when it comes to the animals. Their feeding, housing & care is so awful! Sheep seem to deliver with difficulty (in some cases) & the man running the place stand there & let them struggle not knowing how/if they should help them until it is too late. Explaining to us how an animal has to make it on their own or they are not strong enough to make it in life. Maybe that is true, but for heaven sake don't have the weaker ones have more babies. You keep such good track of your animals & know their care. If you see a problem you work on solving the problem involved. Thank you so much that their lives & care mean so much to you and your family. Enough (and I have lots more opinion) but no matter how I feel, I can't change it. Don't think it's because I don't understand it, I do, I just don't think we should learn with animals lives & ignorance being our guide!

    I'm so sorry for your losses John. It's a part of raising animals as we all know, but it is still upsetting. You do an excellent job with all of your animals. By the way, how are the donkeys? Do you think you will have any little donkeys this year? Take care, blessings always, g.

    I don't remember where or how/what was done, but their farrowing spot had some sort of 'barrier' that allowed the piglets to nurse, but prevented mom from rolling on them

    • @KCFarms
      @KCFarms  Před rokem +1

      That is a creep for the piglets each of our stalls have them but sometimes it still happens

      @@KCFarmsNot that I'm telling you anything new, and I figured you'd know what I was talking about. And yeah, I've had my share of, "Dang, how'd this happen'. I hatched 1 of 16 goose eggs that my 1st clutch mom wouldn't sit, but 6mos later due to snow, extreme cold, an unexpected closed coop door, I lost my 1st gosling. Then to add insult to injury, in back to back weeks, I lost the large, 3yr old parents to a suspected Coyote bec of not 1 feather or drop of blood, and a neighbor shot a 45lb one a yr ago.
      Newbie in training. 😉

    It feels like animals look for ways to die sometimes when you are keeping them.

    Have you thought about putting a pig rail all around the farrowing room? Even if it’s just PVC, in my dogs whelping box I have it all the way around so the bulldog mama’s can’t roll onto the pups.

    • @KCFarms
      @KCFarms  Před rokem

      We have a small creep area where the heat lamp is but sometimes they still get rolled on just depends where mama decides to lay down to nurse. We used to have a bulldog would love to get another so you sell them?

      We won’t have puppies until 2023, I lost my first female after her first litter, because of her great diet she had undiagnosed kidney issues, they were underdeveloped. It’s a lot harder to breed them compared to the kunekune’s are thats for sure. It’s going to take some time to build up my breeding program with the right structure and genetics. Unfortunately the loss of my girl set me back but I’m not gonna give up. Thank you for sharing all you do.

    We have piglets coming soon. Do you keep your mamma pigs in for a few days or do they have free access to go outside right after giving birth?

    Just a thought…could you put a piece of vinyl flooring or something similar on top of the wood bottom in the brooders? This would act as a barrier and protect the wood from rotting if water or urine goes through the shavings and extend the life of the brooder.

    • @KCFarms
      @KCFarms  Před rokem +1

      Hey that’s a good idea

    • @timtation5837
      @timtation5837 Před rokem

      Or…
      You could just use some free untreated pallet boards. Once they rot out, toss them into a compost pile and replace with some fresh pallet boards.
      In a nut shell… Don’t use plastic/vinyl around livestock… We already have way too much plastic polluting our world as it is. We don’t need to bring it onto the farm as well.

    Let's not promote the idea that children should ever be in crate or pen with a sow or boar, they are hungry most of the time, children have been attacked even eaten ! Not all animals all the time are cute friendly innocent farm animals as presented by some, stay safe
