Those that were allowed on camera were forced to play criminals or servants to white people. Sidney was one of the 1st black men portrayed on film that was well spoken, educated, well dressed and cultured. When he won an Oscar, it opened the door for other black actors and actresses to play dignified characters and leading men. I have the utmost respect for him and his brilliant career and for influencing an entire generation of black men both in film and in society in general. 🙏

Oh thanks for the video and may the soul(s) of the dearly departed, rests in perfect peace! That goes especially for you Sydney Poitier for that brilliant performance in"To Sir With Love" and how I so wished whilst watching it all those years ago, that I was actually one of your class pupils! Farewell! Khadeeja Alghali-Rahman (London, UK)

I will miss them all expecially the greatest black American actor of all time , Sidney Poitier. He is a immortal icon of classic greatness. It hurts to see my life time actors and singers that I have so many wonderful memories of leave and pass on. God bless them all and may they rest in peace and grace with the love of god.

I didn't know Sydney Potier had died. The narrator said he had served in World War II. Okay, so if he was born in 1927, he must have gotten in the service toward the end of the war since he would have only been eighteen in 1945, the year when the war ended.
