Why are the BMW bikers queuing? See the locals riding past that’s the whole point of having a motorcycle. The accident was caused by lack of judgement and skill.
It’s just a car park. No pleasure in that, but thanks for the video. This is the reason so many motorcyclists don’t like it. Must say unless you have rode it it’s very hard to appreciate how tight and steep the corners are
You are absolutely right, when you are in traffic like this it is much more difficult to control the motorcycle especially if it is heavy and you also have a passenger. But we learn a whole life from our own mistakes, many times! good roads!
You have to keep moving and the regs up in those tightest corners. I have to say it looks no fun on a fat bike and jammed with traffic. So many other beautiful roads to explore.
@@nocalsteve Yes I totally agree. I can't understand why so many of these people come to a full stop in the middle of the lane and just wait/block the road. Pull over to the side if you want to wait/watch. I would find this place very frustrating.
@meng aw-yong Well, that's the other thing. But he can't be blamed for the crash as the crashing biker must have seen the situation and it was his own fault trying to pass. The whole video is showing some kind of "sunday drivers" making odd decisions.
the Stelvio pass is beautiful but challenging, not a day goes by without some motorcyclist falling. The maneuver is decidedly risky and widening the bend so much, even to go up, is not the exact way. This summer many motorcyclists have cut my way (it's better not to talk about the drivers).
I remember when Clarkson and co went down the Stelvio pass in 2004 it must have been closed off so they could film the segment. It looks like a very busy road!
It's possible to get the stelvio pass all for your self. I went there in 2016, it was late in the evening so there was no traffic. I was basically alone on the road. The next morning it had a lot of traffic, but it wasn't overly crowded. You just have to choose the right time of day and avoid the typical vacation times of the year.
Come on, guy's! The Stelvio is unique and gorgeous and you should just do it when you are in the neighbourhood! All three sides offer beautiful views and not too challenging roads. It's just not for beginners or autobahnburners and don't go there on a sunny sunday afternoon in july... ;-)
Yes you are right ! But maybe it was not possible due to the crowds, and I personally was with my wife in the back and very hard and unstable in that place, but it's good that there were those guys with photography and they helped him

Stelvio rocks! Drove it a couple of times with my K1300GT and my wife on the back seat. Some great sausages and sauerkraut krat at Richards' at the top of the Stelvio.
Everybody on that road hates that everyone else is on that road. Did it once on my R1200GSA with my then 12 year old son. Very happy we did. Not again any time soon though!
Stelvio seems to be a challenge too difficult for quite some BMW 'pilots'. Why? Age (of the biker, not the bike)? Weight (of the scrap metal, not the pillion)? Riding skills? I tend to favour the 3rd option. And I'd like to quote Greg Widmar running the MotoJitsu channel on CZcams: "(riding) Technique over Technology (the bike)". If you invest (one time) just a little share of your initial cost (to buy the bike) or definitely less than you spend on a yearly basis for insurance, tax, gas, consumables (like tires), service/maintenance... to improve your riding/cornering skills then you'll have much more fun, you will feel safer, and, if you want, you're much faster (in bends/hairpins - not on a straight stretch of the road every noob could go full throttle). Happy riding!

Stelvio is one of these places not interesting at all. Its combination of narow U-turns and straight roads right after each turn. in neverending story. Heavy bikes could be in trouble in every curve, especially while going downhill. Ive been there once and...... Ok..... Never more. There are many many places u can choose in Alps which are more beautiful, paronamatic and give you better ride.

Dumping a beautiful and expensive bike like that is so painful, sorry it happened to you. I hope you're not too badly scratched. I shudder to think what fixing any scratches or cracks on the K1600 might cost to fix. I'll never ride that pass, thanks for the education. Stay safe.
And the 2 Dutchmen who park the BMW Z4 in the bend of the hairpin to take pictures?!?

What was he. Thinking about when everyone else is going nice and slow and being patient,, with such tight turns and the volume of traffic on the road,, ☘️☘️☘️☘️from Northern Ireland interesting to watch,
There’s a road in America called “going to the sun” it’s a royal pain in the ass on a bike because of the same issues. You do it a couple of times just to check the box 📦 then never go back on a bike. I know how you feel, it’s tough with a passenger on the back it just makes riding less fun doing mountain passes like this.
well punctuated, you're right but I think these are us bikers, we like challenges and adventure. Personally, my adrenaline remained on the 3rd place due to my "youth" for 56 years. Good roads !
Sorry for the bike, not for the driver! First he should have seen he has to wait, second he was absolutely unable to handle his bike. This is hard, dry tarmac, what should an offroader do in such situation on loose or slippery underground? I think stelvio is no fun when there is such traffic.
one should not be foxes but respect others and stay in one's place thanks dear biker friend for the video you are among your subscribers waiting for your next video
Thank you very much for your appreciation, I'm glad you noticed that our colleague tried to be a little "fox" but unfortunately this is not always possible!
What shocked me more was that there were so many other motorbike riders including the one operating the camera that did not stop and help out. Not nice at all. Solidarity is a nice thing folks...
I was in 2018 on the stelvio with my old r100 gs pd. I was very early on a wednesday there. Not too much traffic. So i rode it up and down several times. I loved it. But in such a traffic it makes no fun. This year I will try it with my road bike...wish all safe rides...ride on...
Stelvio - overrated, as you see in this video: often crowded (esp on weekend/holiday), nice view back from the top though. Pretty manageable if you don't try to filter through jams like this guy. I think his main fault was to not consider the sloping profile of the road which gave ground to his right foot too late to hold the bike. Stopping in the middle of pin curve is super tricky and you must definitely be prepared and stear to lean to the uphill side!
Common problem on the Stelvio - too slow, heavy bike, steep and bank moment - that’s it use Thais pass not on weekends and it is not the pass for exercise
Go early or late season ,May or September, many lesser known passes can be fantastic , weekday afternoons had the road to myself, mistakes not so embarassing when no ones looking , go back and do it again . i fell over in a car park on sunday in much the same way ,my bike is too big for me too
Never again! I made the same mistake, that is going on a popular twisty road in a famous USA park with my heavy 1200 cc BMW RT It has the same high slope gradient. I thought it was off-season time It was still full of cars, huge tour buses, vans, etc going about 1-5 mph with lots of stopping for many miles. I didn't drop my bike but it was my #1 worst experience ever.
Stelvio is probably the most commercial pass. And it's overrated. It's just a place where motorcyclists need to say they've been there and not to go back there again.
If you like riding hairpins because you have the proper riding skills / the proper riding technique then Stelvio is a top candidate amongst the passes in the central Alps. So many hairpins within acceptable range! Gorgeous! Awesome!! Other candidates in the vicinity are Umbrail, Maloja (which isn't a pass), Spluga. You could combine all in a 1-day tour. Unparalleled! And that's it. Which passes in the Dolomites, in Switzerland, or in France are known for more or more challenging hairpins/switchbacks? There's none that comes into my mind. 😊 Happy riding.
@@FxRiderST Well, in the past I liked to go from Bormio to Ponte di Legno as well. Then Covid came and during that time (too much money? funded by the EU?) the road has been completely repaired (Bormio to pass), partly even coated with a new layer of tarmac (the first km's from the pass down to Ponte). Since that - my fun level has dropped dramatically :D Why? I liked the cracks in the tarmac, the bumpy road, all that patchwork in the upper part of Passo di Gavia (looked like pancakes put on top/next to each other). And now? Smooth. Partly even straigthened. Highway feeling. More... suitable for Cruiser (if they can make it through those few hairpins on the Southern side). However, scenery is still great... That's the loudest I've laughed in years, what was he thinking, could he not see the stopped bikes and the hairpin and if he looked over his shoulder the vehicles coming down!!! Shame he binned such a nice bike.
There is no room for that kind of silly move. Stelvio is not always crowded. I drove through it on Friday sometime around eight to nine in the evening and I only saw a couple of cars and one cyclist. Btw... Try next time through Passo Umbrail. That's a nicer way.
If you think this is bad try mt evans in america. No guard rails just as tight. At least as much traffic and the road has buckles and pot holes everywhere.
Mt. Evans, Colorado? Sounds like a tip 😊. A bit far from Central Europe. However, next time I'm in the States and on an acceptable bike (not a bagger) I'll give it a try!🎉
Those K1600 bikes are heavy. It's very hard to cheat in those situations. I know it's not as much fun, but it's best to be patient and a bit cautious especially on a big heavy bike in that situation. I know, I dropped my K1600GA on a mountain road similar situation. Bruised ego, but OK. Ride, live, and learn!

CRASH???? NO I think "DROP" is the right word for it. Been there done than ... Once it gets to that point there is no saving it.
Why are the BMW bikers queuing? See the locals riding past that’s the whole point of having a motorcycle. The accident was caused by lack of judgement and skill.
They just take up too much space with its moving living rooms
Great how the other bikes sat there did nothing
Steep hills and tight curves makes it difficult to park your bike safely without risking it to fall down, you are not a biker yourself I guess
@@bjrnarthur9272 over 30 obviously you can't park a bike on a slope go get lesson's
@@bjrnarthur9272 It's a shame that the biker didn't help. He was busy with filming. Perhaps he did not find the right app on his mobile to help.
Quanto traffico! In che periodo e giorno della settimana?

People blaming the Stelvio Pass. Lol. He should have spent some of his money on riding lessons, or a smaller bike that he can handle safely.
Well if he wasn’t so impatient overtaking the other biker who was waiting he might not have dropped it
My thoughts as well. He must be only looking 10 feet in front too as he pooped his pants on seeing the van.
The other motorcycle had no reason to stop in the middle of the road blocking traffic. He should have kept going.
@@nocalsteve Tip Toeing all the
the Stelvio pass is beautiful but challenging, not a day goes by without some motorcyclist falling.
It's just not for beginners or autobahnburners and don't go there on a sunny sunday afternoon in july... ;-)
No bikers to help him !!!!?..... Where is the biker solidarity ? !!!..... 🤢
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Vollkommene Gerechtigkeit, faire Beobachtung!

Now if he just bought a bike that was a bit lighter than his house, he would've been fine regarding his bad judgement here... also long legs help a bit. Luckely he doesn't go down that hard.
This bikes are so pointless to me…
Stelvio is one of these places not interesting at all.

What shocked me more was that there were so many other motorbike riders including the one operating the camera that did not stop and help out. Not nice at all. Solidarity is a nice thing folks...
very hard to park a motorcicle on a road/slope like that. You risk to drop it.

You HAVE TO look forward to the upcoming traffic, that's what he clearly didn't. Just at the moment itself he saw the van.
Thanks allot for the people the help him🤩

Go early or late season ,May or September, many lesser known passes can be fantastic , weekday afternoons had the road to myself, mistakes not so embarassing when no ones looking , go back and do it again . i fell over in a car park on sunday in much the same way ,my bike is too big for me too
Regardless of his impatience, it is the first time I've seen motorcyclists refusing to help another !!!
if riding this roads you will notice that its mostly not possible to park the bikes there whitout problems . thats as well the reason why he fells off
very hard to park a bike on a slope like that
ognuno si diverte a modo suo...
There are thousands of passes like it
If you like riding hairpins because you have the proper riding skills / the proper riding technique then Stelvio is a top candidate amongst the passes in the central Alps.
@@beartrader_redartraeb Passo Gavia is my favorite in Italian Alps
@@FxRiderST Well, in the past I liked to go from Bormio to Ponte di Legno as well. Then Covid came and during that time (too much money? funded by the EU?) the road has been completely repaired (Bormio to pass), partly even coated with a new layer of tarmac (the first km's from the pass down to Ponte).
Since that - my fun level has dropped dramatically :D
Why? I liked the cracks in the tarmac, the bumpy road, all that patchwork in the upper part of Passo di Gavia (looked like pancakes put on top/next to each other). And now? Smooth. Partly even straigthened. Highway feeling. More... suitable for Cruiser (if they can make it through those few hairpins on the Southern side).
However, scenery is still great... Thx for sharing your favourite - and a good start in the 2024 season!

There is no room for that kind of silly move.
Stelvio is not always crowded. I drove through it on Friday sometime around eight to nine in the evening and I only saw a couple of cars and one cyclist. Btw... Try next time through Passo Umbrail. That's a nicer way.
unless you can ride slow and understand the balance points PLEASE don't buy a K1600...he was a fckwit!
