This is what I used to love about the 70's. What were deemed as novelty acts could have a successful record and everyone would accept them as being just part and parcel of what made up the charts and go along with the overall frivolity. No-one, (except the few music snobs), went out of their way to dismiss them, and went along with the fun involved, chanting the main chorus line.
but underneath it's well crafted pop so it stands up still whether it's a novelty act or not, written by Mike Batt who also wrote Bright Eyes, someone who can get Art Garfunkel to sing for them must have some talent
We didn't know Jimmy Savile was a pedophile back then, and yes, it was good times for us as we didn't know Jimmy personally thank goodness so he didn't wreck our lives, though finding out what he was like does tarnish things a bit I still think of the great music we had to takes us back to a time when my dad and my grandparents were still alive.
Andrew Dexter. I know. I used to watch Jimmy back in the 90s on Jim'll fix it. He sure did fix it for a few kids lol. I miss the wombles as well. That and the teletubbies
Fond memories of it in New Zealand. Now living in Australia, begun singing it for some reason this morning, had to find and show the video to my partner and daughter to prove I wasn't going mad. Ah, the 70s, great times :)
I’m an American who just discovered the Wombles, through an interview with Mike Batt on the Rockonteurs podcast. I love it, so joyful. If I’d heard this as a kid I would’ve been totally into it!
Back in the day my dad, who was a teacher of English in Germany, brought back a LP with songs from the Wombles from his school exchange travel to the UK. Me and my little sister, both primary school of age, were immediately flashed by this song from our first listen, and from then we played it day and night. Nobody else in our small German town, except from our family, had ever heard of the existence of the Wombles. Thanks for the upload! Brings back my memories ...
I'm 62, and love this, too! Mike Batt has never made a recording that I haven't loved. I never got to see the Wombles in action here in the USA--so glad to find this here!
Still have the compilation album that was given to me around 1974.....great memories of a great time to be a kid and there's NOTHING simplistic about those songs......
I was born in 1970 and used to watch the Wombles growing up. Here I would have been just four and so Play School age. Bernard Cribbins, the voice of the Wombles, has just died at 93!
Remember I was dancing to this in 1974 at university discos after a few pints of Newcastle Exhibition - I doubt that today's students can experience such fun
No internet in 1976...I am flying to Istanbul...the music onboard..yes they made you pay for headsets...anyway...this song came on...I was hooked...this would have hit bit in the US if there was internet at the time...a great fun song!
❤ I love this song when I was age 5 to 10 my dad was stationed in England for 5 years and I was a huge fan of the children's TV show and the band. For some strange reason I was thinking of the song and I decided to see if it was on CZcams or it existed and I'm so glad it did😂

I was a student in the UK when the wombles were at their highlight and iI've always wondered since why have they never crossed the channel : I'm sure kids all over Europe and beyond would just love the Wombles!!

Hi. I'm Eliot Wien from NYC. I remember when Columbia Records in the USA released Remember Yo're A Womble album. I was a curious kid and purchased the album without listening to it. Remember, we didn't have computers or the internet or CZcams back then. I was really into this song, and the Beach Boy style Wombling Summer Party song when I played the album. I still have it in my collection, and as I got older, I'm still listening to it today!
That reminds me. I'm a womble. Completely forgot. Explains a lot.
😆
We all knew. We're wombles too.
AWESOME SONG

Even the wombles are better than today’s bands
What do you mean EVEN the Wombles.. the wombles are class
They never played live for some reason
Ayo man we are trying our best
That's because there was actual talented musicians behind the music they produced.
A pile of shyt would have a better hum than the crap today.
I'm an American now but listening to the Wombles takes me back to being a kid in 70s Britain.
American now? Nah, come back!
Don't forget us!
the 70's was an extraordinary time....
ha ha yes the 70s were fab
They were awesome Blue H, I often think about those times !!!
Blue H yeah it was! The BBC let a pedophile get away with sexual assault! Good times.

You don't understand how much I love the wombles
Mike Batt's a great writer.. The fiddle hook in this and the brass one in The Wombling Song are both brilliant.
I know about the fiddle, because three years after the song came out, I started to learn the instrument at junior school!
I remember watching all the trippy kids shows of the 70's. The wombles are one of the highlights of my life 😂. Bring them back tomorrow I say!
I nearly wore out my record player with this record as a kid. Still like it.
Remember You're A Womble was the first album I ever owned
My dad called my sisters friend a womble and he told me to search this up. I don't regret doing that now
The chorus of this just suddenly entered my head. So now I'm here.
#metoo
I have no idea how I wound up back here again but I regret none of the decisions that led me to watching this video 🥳
Love the way everyone in the audience looks like they are having such a great time.
They are all just happy that it wasnt Jimmy Saville presenting that week.

Right up there with 'Aaannnniiimaaaaaal!! & Co from the Muppets, but far better musically. Can sing it in my sleep

my last name is also womble!
I’m 55 years old and I’m still a womble, and will always be a womble 🤓 Not heard this in years, this was a trip down memory lane 👍🏻👍🏻
In 57 back in the 70s I was massive Womble fan I had a Womble pillow case and. My very own Womble I still love this song
My brother and I used to play this at 45 rpms instead of 33 - changing the speed to 1.25 does the same thing
much more fun
So did i lol
I think it was equally as fun to play the single version at 33⅓ rpm and pretend they were all sleepy.
Great
Respect to the Wombles, the most successful chart group of '74. Great days.
oh my. This was my favorite song as a 4 or 5 year old. And now just ran into it again at age 41.

Too bad , kids don’t have wombles.
Is that one Womble seriously playing a mandolin as a fiddle? That’s punk as hell.
It's quite appropriate as one of the Wombles (Chris Spedding, on guitar and in the blue hat) produced the first demos for the Sex Pistols in May 1976!
This was in the charts in 1974 when abba won the eurovision song contest with waterlooe

Phil Collins was asked to go on totp ? They said he had to mime ? He sent 2 words back !he appeared when he got to no 1
