I'm a combat veteran that suffers from PTSD. I drive trucks, because I have trouble dealing with people. I take several pharmaceuticals every night to stabilize my mood and to sleep. These drugs have dangerous side effects. This is totally ok with the transportation industry, but if I smoke marijuana (which is completely harmless) when I'm on home time or not driving, I can lose my job and my livelihood.

You’re allowed to hold a cdl if you have a prescription for opioids and other drugs, you can drink yourself half to death and still have your job. It’s about time these laws change, it’s discrimination at this point to prevent someone for choosing weed as a way to relax verses getting hammered drunk especially in a legal state.

The laws are really stupid the way they are now. I know drivers who smoke weed at their home on time off and they are the very safe drivers. But like you said you can drink yourself to death and that is ok. As long as you show up sober to work it shouldn't be a problem. And also just because THC is still in your system for over 30 days that does not mean you are high for 30 days. Really stupid. These laws need to be changed.
They just changed in Cali! Mouth swab tests are being implemented.. to test for ACTIVE thc. Not prolonged or previous use.

We're all grown adults I believe we should enjoy our time once we're home after a long day at work with a joint if we wanted to. I understand about being high and driving heavy machinery that's why they need to invent something that would tell you if your high for the day then of course you should not be able to drive.

Haven't even thought about it like that. This whole time I been hoping for some device to be invented. But like you can obviously tell if someone is high. I was trying to get a job in aviation. The FAA (With DOT Testing) Denied me because I came out dirty for Marijuana. So there's that. Such a stupid rule. I go to school for maintenance on planes, have worked in mechanic shops more dangerous than the one the new employer had, I'm no pothead either, I'd consider myself to be quite professional and exceptional in my field of work, but just because DOT says "Nope, can't use that" I've been denied an opportunity that I have been working towards for many years. Not to mention I had already been clean 2 weeks already, because I was aware of the drug test, I honestly figured it was enough time, it was a long process which required me to change my schedule around (Hard to do because of school policy). Really just unfair, and in this day in age unrealistic. They'd rather have a guy who had been partying the night before getting blackout drunk come back the next day, over someone who was at home in pain trying to just get some peaceful sleep.

They are NOT testing for "under the influence" at the test. Instead, testing to see if "metabolites" are in your body from months ago. It's like saying you got drunk a month ago, so we are taking your livelihood away from you.
As more and more states legalize, I'm sure there will be a shortage of "approved" drivers. Hope that helps them take cannabis off of the drug test, I still want them to test for all the hard drugs tho.

I found this video by looking up videos on a faint negative line on a test.... I have been testing myself regularly and I keep getting faint lines on my drug test... which under research that still means a negative... its sad that someone has to go through this just because of a little weed

I took three pulls of a CBD vape pen of delta 8 Dec 13th, 2022. I tested positive right afterward. This week I tested negative on the urine test. The question is, Would I fail the hair follicle even though I took three pulls of smoke in my lungs? It's now Jan 3rd, 2023, only a couple of weeks.

If something is legal in a state employees shouldn't be able to rule you out based on that. Marijuana should be treated like alcohol
I believe that pot is no more harmful the day after smoking, as alcohol is the day after drinking. And so if they can do random tests to see if people are actively high, like they do the random breathalyzer to see if someone is actively drunk, then it could be set up like that instead of the urine drug test (which tests to see if you’ve done it any time in the last month). But until those on the spot tests are readily available for trucking companies, AND are used randomly, the only way to keep people from driving high, is to do the traditional test. I don’t want to take any chances, on someone driving an 80,000 lb truck anywhere near me or my family, if they’re high.

These federal laws against marijuana needs to change since most of our country pay for fedreal taxes, plus its not wrong to intake it from home if others can drink alcohol..I feel that the feds need to give cmv drivers a break who been driving clean no accidents for my years, plus marijuana is not a harmful substance like cigarettes, and whats stupid that cbd is illlegal to rub on our backs but the feds can take our license away with these drug test having drivers losing their jobs for something beneficial, yet they want our money for buying marijuna product at a local store..I say let thc and cbd be off the grid so we can all work in peace

I’m a truck driver who used to smoke weed. I feel like it shouldn’t be something that is tested for because I don’t look at it any different or any worse than alcohol. When I did smoke weed, I could operate a vehicle perfectly fine. I feel like some people use it recreationally just like alcohol. Cause I don’t feel like that should be the end all be all set determine if you can work at a certain job or not.

I would almost agree (other than the driving high being safe) lol. I smoked some weed once, and as I was driving, everyone in front of me pulled over to let me by. I thought I was driving fine….but apparently my conception of safe wasn’t the reality other drivers around me saw. Lol. Im trying to figure out what jobs people can smoke weed and keep. Haven't smoked since like high school because every job I get always test for it. It's crazy how I can get pissy drunk as long as it's been 24hrs but can't smoke. It's easier to tell if a person is high on the job but not so easy if they are drunk
you just hit on a major part of the problem. The rapid testing for recent marijuana use is still not reliable. This is changing however. I will certainly make an update when it is official.

i’m not a driver but For clarity, So if i’m in a state that marijuana is illegal but Delta 8 is accessible anywhere from a gas station to a regular store . If i consume Delta 8 for sleep problems consistently then i get a job offer then take a drug test , which they detect thc. This is not a prescription drug but a personal matter . How does MRO understand the matter
If you test positive for THC metabolites (delta 8 may cause this) then this is always counted as a positive. There is no documentation you can get to give to the MRO

I am getting my class b no air brake cdl for a bucket truck in Illinois. Will I be drug tested when getting my dot physical? I work for a company that does not require a drug test however the truck weighs 25-30,000 pounds
You will be drug tested if getting a CDL of any type. This is not done during the normal DOT physical. I do have a video on drug testing specifics on this channel with more details.

So I don't smoke on a consistent basis I did smoke on 4th of July took my physical they asked have I smoked in the last 2 years my dumb ass said yeah so they disqualified me.. I feel like it was kind of petty how can I get around this?

What if you’re prescribed Marinol? It’s federally legal and is prescribed by a doctor. You can use it in any state. Now what if you’re a truck driver?

It sounds like you won't be required to take a drug test. During the physical you will, however, be asked if you use drugs. Unfortunately, when you answer "yes" to marijuana this will cause an automatic disqualification. Hope this helps!

That is correct. As stated in the video, there are 2 classes of drivers, those who need drug testing and those who do not. Drug testing is not part of the standard DOT physical and is performed separately if needed.
What if quit smoking to work but still test positive because the time frame wasn't long enough to be clean. Can i retest or im i screwed for life on that 1 dirty trying to become clean?

Im a mechanic for a small diesel repair shop i had to get cdl for test drives to duplicate issues and check repairs. So am i a driver or someone else? I would appreciate someone clearing this up for me
If you have a CDL the FMCSA considers you a driver just the same as someone driving an 18 wheeler. Hope this helps.

If I failed a drug screen and then went through the same process program and then went up to renew my medical card of course I would have to check the box yes with the question asking if I have used any illegal substances in the past two years so with that being said would that disqualify me from getting my medical card renewed even though I went through the SAP process
The FMCSA standard is that you can not be currently be using a banned substance. The discretion to certify is the doctors but given this situation I would probably not disqualify.

Absolutely, you can. Your worries are when you return to the pool and get the pre-employment drug screen. I have a "friend of a friend" who doesn't drive a CMV anymore but keeps his CDL active...his only requirement is that he keeps his CDL active by keeping his med cert current. You still get your DOT physical, without the drug screen while you're taking a year off. Get clean approx 6 weeks before your return and shave ALL of your body hair.

They are required to retest your sample upon an initial failure. You're fortunate that they allowed you to provide another sample, but if they allowed it and it came back clean it sounds like you're good to go.
If they are going to run a 6 month hair test on you for CDL school but you used to smoke weed for many years daily but haven't in 4 to 5 month would you pass the test

What are you hearing about cannabis use for cmv drivers when it becomes federally legal in all states? There has to be some changes made in testing, the ua system will not be a viable source, will the saliva test become the new test? How will this work for drivers?

My main question is, will drivers be allowed to use cannabis if it becomes federally legal? Testing would have to change, would it be regulated with a saliva test like how alcohol is regulated with a breathalyzer. The blood, urine and hair follicle tests would be too thorough at that point. CBD and cannabis, if legalized on the federal level should then be available to use in our off time for those of us who don’t use alcohol. I was just asking if you’d heard anything on this hypothetical situation which will possibly happen in the near future.

Just saying the testing to randomly check for recent smoking, just isn’t being used much. Matter of fact I’d never even heard of such a thing till today.
Also, I’ve smoked pot, so I’m not one of those holier than thou people. I just know that most of my pot smoking friends don’t stop smoking with a joint or a bowl at home. Most of them I know, are carrying it in their vehicles, and sneaking out of their regular jobs on breaks and lunch to hit it. What would they do in an over the road truck, with no bosses and supervision around? All of them think they drive fine on it.
