      Emily Richardson Yes i agree its criminal, thanks for replying, its just for my nana she gets opiates from the doctor but they dont help as much as smoking a small joint. Also the opiates from the doc are really bad for your mental and physical health so im going to get her some weed but i was wondering the best method of consuming for this purpose. I will look into it more but i know smoking it will help

    I have had chronic osteoarthritis for many years which is only getting worse as I get older (67). I used the doctor prescribed codeine for over a decade but did not like the side effects. I was able to get off the opioids by using cannabis. It took some experimentation to get the dosage right, but well worth it. I mostly use edibles and tinctures which I make myself which is a lot cheaper than buying them at a cannabis store. While CBD is pushed a lot online, I find that THC works well for me. I am very functional during the day and later in the evening I can chill out watching tv, and take some more cannabis for a restful sleep when I go to bed. I wake up refreshed and no hangover effect. If I have a lot of pain I have found that if I take more and the effects are as powerful as morphine without the side effects.

    Medical cannabis is also defined as cannabis used for *any* medical condition, that cannabis can help with. Not many doctors will prescribe mmj. Another way that cannabis can be administered is topically, in the form of massage oils, creams, lotions, poultices, etc. ie applied to the skin for pain relief, like you might do for arthritis.

    When you work as a healthcare professional, many elderly are prescribed percocets, tylenol #3, hydromorphone, ativan, quietapine, risperidone to manage pain and aggressive behaviors with deadly and serious side effects. The crazy thing is that when you mention cannabis people look at you strangely and say there are a lot of side effects. The ignorance of the public regarding Cannabis is astounding. I guess its more profitable for the Pharmaceutical companies to diagnose people with various conditions and give people them different pills than it is to use a natural plant that has not killed anybody nor is dangerous to taper or discontinue like hydromorphone, ativan, etc.

    Is there any evidence to suggest cannabis could reduce, or prevent out right, SJIA flare ups and symptoms?

    • @ArthritisSociety
      @ArthritisSociety  Před 8 lety +1

      +19radagast73 -- Thanks for your inquiry. While there is some anecdotal suggestion that medical cannabis can help reduce some of the symptoms of arthritis, we're not aware of any clinical evidence as yet to suggest that it can prevent flares, especially in SJIA. As you can imagine, there is a great deal of sensitivity around the idea of using medical cannabis to treat symptoms of childhood forms of arthritis such as SJIA, which may be a contributing factor in the lack of research on the topic.
      More broadly, the fact is that there are huge gaps in the data around medical cannabis and arthritis as a whole, including how it interacts with various forms of arthritis. The Arthritis Society is advocating strongly for additional research focus in this area, and funding research ourselves, to try and address these gaps and give patients and doctors the evidence-based guidance they need to make informed treatment decisions.

      Thank you so much for your response and info. Was wondering if you are familiar with Dr. William Courtney and his push to use cannabis as a food and supplement. His wife was afflicted with several autoimmune diseases and has apparently had great result with juicing the plant. He also says that juicing it takes the controversial argument out of the equation because there are no psycho active compounds with this method. I will leave a link to his site at bottom of this comment. Would be very interested in your opinion. Thanks again! www.cannabisinternational.org/

    • @ArthritisSociety
      @ArthritisSociety  Před 8 lety +1

      Yes, we're aware of Dr. Courtney's claims. He certainly speaks with great passion, and cites some extraordinary anecdotal experiences, however at this point there is no clinical evidence to support either the safety or efficacy of the consumption of raw cannabis as a treatment for arthritis or any other condition. If a researcher came forward with a scientifically meritorious research proposal to explore raw cannabis, we could consider it.
      Our greatest challenge is that we lack sufficient funding to conduct all of the research that has already been identified as a priority. We remain committed to supporting research that leads to better quality of life today, while working ultimately towards a cure. Hopefully with increased awareness of the need we can garner additional support to address this and a number of other unanswered questions.

    You lost my respect mentioning synthetic cannabis. You lost more respect by either not knowing or just not mentioning cannabis topical creams or balms which are amazing for arthritis sufferers.

    The brand HyperNovacbd.com has an amazing broad spectrum tincture. I bought some for my grandma with arthritis really bad in her hands and fingers and she felt so much relief.
