  • In this video, I explain how to find hidden offshore areas on your lake. I give tips and instruction on how to use contour line (topographical) maps like Navionics, C-Maps, or Lakemaster to find bass fishing structure and cover that over fisherman overlook. I also give advice on how to use your fish finder to locate bass other tournament bass fisherman may miss. Hope you enjoy!

    Yes this so true and a very good point on everybody of water. I bottom fish the east coast of central Florida and we call this technique Race Tracking. Well find a nice shelf of hard bottom and there might be a few fish there but when we start doing circles or just zigzags from that point out we’ve almost 80% of the time find a even better spot. It might be a 100 yards from where you started but most of the time it’s not even on your best contour map. Thanks for the great video.

    Had a fun day yesterday. Found a really good hotspot, barely moved all day and caught over 30 fish. Similar situation. Tons of boats on the water, but I had a nothing looking spot, but it had a massive shell bed and some submerged brush. Thanks for the info. Although I want to see your channel blow up, I also like that not many get this same info lol

    John I'm in NJ our lakes are small! There's lots of pressure from a ton of very good fishermen. I've been doing just what your saying only problem is 3 or 4 times on a new hot spot an I'm sharing with a group of other boats! Only so many spots I can find in a season! It's getting harder to find these fish. God I hate me some binoculars! 😆

    Great video. Makes you really think. I'm all about trying to do something different them everyone else. Sometimes that's easy, other times, not so easy. Anyway, I have a question about Side Imaging. We have a Helix 7 on our boat and I was told that if the boat is moving faster then 3mph and your side imaging, your loosing detail so keep it at 3 or under. I was also told not to set the beam distance out more then 60 feet. Anything after that is pointless as the beam strength is not the same after that distance. Finally, I was also told to match your chart speed on your Helix to your boat speed while using SI. Example, if the boat is going at 3mph, chart speed should be at 3?! I always thought to up the chart speed to max on anything that is not a flasher so your picture is as close to live as possible. Thanks for considering on answering my questions.

      @FishtheMoment  Před 4 lety +5

      It sounds like you were misinformed in several areas. First, your boat needs to be moving at 3-5mph to get a clear side imaging image. If you are going less than 2.5mph, side imaging is pretty much useless. In terms of your range, it set mine between 60 and 100ft depending on what you’re trying to achieve. Check out my bass fishing electronics playlist on my channel. It explains all of this

    Your videos have really been helpful for me. I've just got back into fishing after 20 years. I also just bought my first lake boat. I grew up fishing ponds and creeks. I want a breakdown of Caddo lake all seasons. I live 30 minutes from it and never been able to fish it in my 2-man pirogue. I'm rural and don't have steady internet. So I can't do a one on one. P.M. me. Thanks Jim

    Ok, here is probably a stupid question but here goes. I watch these videos and learn a lot. I can find offshore structures and the like. My question is how do you fish them when you find them? I mean physically. When i try to fish i cant stay where i can cast to that area. I think i will be keeping myself in the area but look down and see i have drifted away considerably.

    Question or rule of thumb? When you say ugly banks are you looking near offshore good spots to find stuff off the beaten path or just random? To make that more specific let’s say you find a point on a channel swing. That is main lake you go up main lake just alittle graphing to find rock piles off the spot or brush etc? Is that how you started or just random and graphed?

      we have a lake here that only has no more than 4 arms to it. EVERY fisherman and their momma heads to these areas. I found that fishing the no obvious areas is where the quality fish are at.

    Hey Jonny, This winter I bought a “new for me” bass boat that came with a side imaging Hummingbird. Ive never used side imaging but felt at least a little better prepared because of you and your videos. I was having problems, however, and was told (and now believing) it’s mostly due to my 5” screen. Is this small electronic going to help me or is it really too small to be of great use for side imaging?

    Hidden spots or subtle offshore spots are becoming non-existent largely in part because of you tube. People don't have to put the work in,they can watch videos and someone else can show them what to look for. You can't deny that you tube has contributed to more fishing pressure especially offshore.
