  • “The last thing I ever said to my father was, ‘I love you Daddy. Be careful and be safe.’ The last words he ever told me were, ‘I love you with all of my heart,’ recalls Rachel Clark, whose father was senselessly killed by four young people years ago.
    “The events of that night devastated me,” she says. “I wanted them to pay.”
    At first, Rachel thought she was coping well. She had turned to prayer and studying the scriptures. She was helping her children and family manage their grief. As time went on, though, she realized she was running from her own.
    “It got to the point where I couldn’t even think about my father. The sweetest memories were reduced to the images that were in my mind of his murder,” Rachel describes.
    For the next 18 years, she couldn’t sleep longer than a few hours each night. Darkness loomed every day. The thought came to Rachel that she needed to visit her father’s murderers in prison. It was the last thing she wanted to do and the one thing she hadn’t tried, and she was willing to do anything to rid herself of the hate in her heart.
    As she visited the prison, Rachel began to see the individuals as Heavenly Father must see them; with loving eyes. She was able to forgive them.
    “I walked in those prison doors a shattered victim. I walked out healed, free,” she says. “[Jesus Christ’s] grace is that part that carried me through my darkest days and my loneliest nights, that supported me and ultimately that showed me His infinite love for myself and for those four young people. His grace is that part that made it so that my heart could love them.”

    I'm realizing that we interact with people in our lives every day and we don't know what keeps them up at night. God's eyes are perfect. To see through His eyes is a gift. I cherish Rachel's example of bravery to face her adversaries...and her Grace in His to forgive.

    My mother was murdered by two young people, thats's very painful. I forgave them in my heart but I don't think I would want to go and talk to them in prison. I heard enough of them in court. I don't hate them, just feel very sorry for my mum, for her horrible last minutes of life. And just miss her.

    I can relate as well... my uncle and 2 cousins were murdered in Mexico... they were both shot multiple times and died very painful. after returning home from my mission my mom told me of what happened to them, I was very very very heartbroken. they were really good and successful people in Mexico. the thief's were never arrested and no justice took place even until this day I wonder who they are and why did they kill my other side of my family? 1 of my cousin wanted to be a dancer and the other wanted his own business in other words both of them had goals in life and now they will never reach their goal. I forgive them but I still have a little grudge on them for killing my innocent uncle and 2 cousins. I do believe in forgiving others but it is one of the hardest commandments to follow.

      @hammastytava Před 6 lety +3

      Honestly I can relate, my friend who visited Mexico unfortunately heard that one of his friends family members was murdered outside his station (he was a police officer) he was a straightforward father and a great dad from the stories that were told around his community. His son hell bent on revenge ended up getting revenge and murdered the two teens along side with their father. and a month later he was found dead in a ditch.
      Revenge never works, spilling more blood does nothing but create a river of regret and pain. The best someone can do is pray for understanding and coping for a loss. I hope you can make it through your loss and come to an understanding of some sort that will ease the pain that you are going through.

I am sorry to hear you were bullied, it is never fun to be the target of simple minded individuals who feel they need to try and steal or ruin your happiness to puff themselves up a tiny bit. Resilience is borne out of adversity, use the experience to grow your faith to search for your inner hero. Give your pain and suffering over to the Lord, he will replace this with peace and purpose. You were made to be more than a conqueror! Jesus won't let you down, give it over to him.

    Listening To others makes me not Feel Alone. My son was heavy into drugs. We begged him To quit but he wouldn't listen. We know he was murdered and we can't find his body. It's been almost 3yrs now and no one Will even listen. All I've got from the local and state police. I can't sleep or eat. Everyday is the same, I try solving his murder, who did it, and why. I really don't even want To live. We've heard 2 stories of what happened. We heard They beat him with concrete blocks, shot in the back of his head and fed his body To pigs. The other they tore off his clothes, shot him in the head and put Weights on him and threw him in a river. I pray every night and day To get justice for him and peace in my families life.

    I would never be able to forgive someone for murdering one of my loved ones and I honestly don’t know how people do. I would honestly have hate for someone who forgave the person that murdered me.

    • @Efa_Birch
      @Efa_Birch Před 2 lety

      Daisy, forgiveness isn't done for the person who offended you, however they did so- whether it was falling short on an expectation or murdering your mother. It doesn't- it can't, actually -absolve them of the necessity of restitution. Forgiveness is done for YOU. Think of it like applying medicine to a scrape or rash. The offense is the wound. You choosing to forgive them is you choosing to clean and dress the wound, whereas not doing so is choosing to leave the wound open to fester.
      If you can indeed honestly think that if somebody murdered you, and one of your loved ones forgave them for doing so, that you would hate that loved one, then perhaps you'd want to study the concept of forgiveness more thoroughly, as my explanation(following) is actually pretty skimpy.
      In short, your loved one is not letting your murderer "get away with it" by forgiving the murderer of their personal offense to said-loved one. Your loved one is instead opening the door to their own healing by unlocking themselves from an obsession with your murder. Which they would never be able to move past without forgiving your murderer. They can still grieve you, they can still miss you, but they won't be stuck at the time you died. Instead, they can move on.
      Does that help you see how people can find the capability to forgive such heinous offenses?
