The last time Humans were on the moon was in 1972. Since then it's been 50 years and we haven’t left earth’s orbit. But not for long! NASA’s plans for their Artemis program plans to change all of that and send Humans back to the moon and this time for building a settlement. The Artemis program will prepare humanity for the next giant leap, the exploration of Mars. But how does the Artemis program plan to take humans to the moon? Why will it be important? I love to be able to volunteer to go to Space, even for a permanent trip It'd be a dream come true but I'm sure there are many out there with the dream of going to Space so I don't hold my breath over it!!
If we survive long enough to see the Mars base become established, they’ll definitely be looking for a ton of volunteers to go and live out there.
I think taking a trip into space will be fairly common next decade. Especially with the new commercial stations that are being planned. We've already seen a few lucky Civies do it. There'll be a lot of progress very soon, and a lot more people going up there
For those of us who have more years behind us, and a retirement income it may seem like our only chance is to live long enough to watch others do it. Going to the moon or Mars may be better for us than earth gravity worlds or spacecraft. The lower gravity may actually be better for our bodies. Also, costs will go down, and contracts will be written that pay off or work off the cost of the trip.

NASA finally woke up from its 50 year nap
No, we won't make it by 2024, but by 2026 will be good enough. We certainly don't want to settle for 2028, the original timeline. What the SLS plus starship allows us to do is get a lot of stuff to the Moon. Over 100 tons per trip. That's way better than 2 men and 100 pounds of rock the Apollo missions achieved.
That's why it took so long, we had to develop technology to get more to the Moon and do more once we get there. Starship moon landers will be the first human habitation modules on the Moon. The next goal is to build more with very smart robots.
That's not precisely why it took us so long. The biggest reason is the waning public interest after the Apollo missions. Far less recognition and interest from the general public = far less funding. Despite that, tons of issues on earth outweigh the points you're bringing up.
In the future, if we have one, human history will be divided into two parts: before we became a multi-planet species, and after. Current generations are fortunate to live at that turning point.
I agree. we should have started a new space station around the moon 10 years ago and already began replacing the ISS sections about 5 years ago.

I would be a good plan to send a electronic dozer or grader. Or a type of loader. To level the ground for a flat surface to build on. When creating a flat surface can be leveled in a large circle or a back and forth moshion with this machine. 🤔

How are the CO2-emissions of Artemis compensated?
I would assume plant trees would be one way. But Artemis emissions are very, very tiny compared to emissions from all sources, though obviously Artemis - if it launches - will use a lot of fuel. But going into space will always require a lot of fuel to achieve orbital or escape velocity, whatever vehicle is used.

Your first question is beyond dumb... It didn't take 50 years to do it, as they weren't working towards doing that for those 50 years. There was no reason to just keep doing the same damn thing, as people (and more specifically CONGRESS) became less & less interested.
Then the massive funding required was dramatically cut, & they had to reset their goals. Getting 4% of the total country's GDP down to less than 0.5% is a pretty important reason.

I think there's a lot more to this story.
There is no way a Moon landing will happen by 2024 or even for at least several years afterwards. And a Mars landing is much further away than that, if it ever happens at all. And of course landing on the Moon depends on the Starship rocket, a rocket that has not even flown yet, let alone been to the Moon!
Also, the Artemis project does not seem to have captured the imagination of the American public, whose support will be crucial if the Artemis Moon landings ever occur at all. And if a disaster occurs - crewed spaceflight is a very risky business - will the whole thing be abandoned?
And that is not to mention the health risks involved, like radiation from the Sun and cosmic rays, and zero gravity, or only one sixth gravity on the Moon. And Long stays in zero gravity have been detrimental to the body, like bone loss.
Obviously you need to read a bit more on experiments on ISS and how long astronauts stay there until they need to get back to Earth. Also American public is not even a tenth of the Earth's population so the importance of their support is vastly overestimated in your comment. And no, spaceflight has seen a few terrible disasters in previous years, including one during rehearsal for launch and definitely several on the Russian side which will never be reported obviously but human will to go further has always proven to be stronger than the fear and grief that comes with those.
The moon isn't deep space. It's literally the shallowest space...
By definition, it's still deep space. LEO is space, tip of orbit is "High Earth Orbit" (HEO), and outside our atmosphere & orbit entirely is "deep space."
