He Who Remains is a variant of Kang the Conqueror, who has now overtaken the TVA in Loki Episode 6 and is positioned to be the new big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind titles like Spider-Man No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, perhaps even the WandaVision post-credit scene. Erik Voss explains what Kang's ultimate plan is, and why he's most afraid of a Spiderverse crossover in No Way Home.

The scene where Kang and the lokis have the conversation about the timeline is by FAR my fave scene of the whole Loki series. Jonathan does an amazing job, the balance of evil, lunacy, wit, outsmarting is fantastic. It really makes the two lokis so powerless and question everything they've been through. Although our Loki seems more developed than Sylvie, as I think lokis past experiences, relationship with Mobius and seeing his future humbled him. Whereas Sylvie was hellbent on revenge so was more rash and evident of a past Loki! Fab stuff, I'm glad Marvel are really starting to develop characters more. Wich wouldn’t make sense since he who remains was surprised but should have known about this if he had the script of everything happening. So it must‘ve been a point of action. Something that happened and destroyed the sacred timeline. Like a Nexus Event passing the red line. But what was that Nexus event? Maybe Wanda stretching reality to hard?

Thanos was behind the scenes most of the time, until he emerged like a storm. It was triumphant when they defeated him.
Kang is different. Hes being shown and displayed early on. While we know "Kang the Conqueror" is showing up in Antman. The fact that his casting for Loki was kept hidden makes me think we may see him in even more films. And it doesn't have to be just Kang, there are an infinite amount of variants of him to worry about. The idea of a "constant and visible threat" in more than one film, for the next decade, excites me in a different way. I think this Kang's plan and motives are quite simple. I think he wants Chaos, after essentially "Bore-ifying" the universe into one tedium of beurocracy. His two options both lead to Chaos, on the one hand you have him dead and the universes branching, on the other hand you have two beings that both thrive on mischief and causing chaos for the sake of chaos in charge of his "order" both options are chaotic and honestly both would lead to his variants eventually being allowed to proliferate... but in any case the real "gambit" was the message or file that he sent via Miss Minutes back to the TVA, whatever happened with the Lokis in the Citidel, whether she'd kill him, or they'd take over, or their combined presence would cause a branch spontaneously, whatever those 3 outcomes, it would be chaos.

I don’t know if I agree with the idea that He Who Remains is trying to have a younger Kang Replace him. This character from this episode is also based on Immortus, whom became mostly a pacifist after a lifetime of war, and isn’t necessarily a fan of Kang (his younger self). In the comics, the Council of Kangs exist to preserve what they believe to be the optimal timeline (Kang Prime becomes Immortus and thus keeps the timeline on the correct path). Here I think Immortus/He Who Remains does what he does to preserve the timeline in which he won the Multiversal War, and thus he can trust himself to avoid the most destruction (“This is the only way”). But because there are so many Kang variants, that victory is entirely up to chance (or at least it was before he started manipulating it), and thus with his death, we get a slightly different timeline, maybe one in which he is Kang for longer (It’s unclear whether the version of Immortus we saw in this episode actually spent time as Kang, but maybe he will end up right back in the same place as Immortus).

It seems to me that the reason the timeline splits again is while both lokis exist with he who remains at the end is because each Loki represents a probable path to move the timeline forward whereas before kang was always determining the flow of time without any consequence. since Loki represents chaos one Loki represents a positive outcome while the other takes the negative. But much like beliefs in polytheism and Buddhism existance is cyclical so while the negative outcome spawns chaos it also directly leads to kangs reincarnation as an inevitable force. But we also have to consider that the timeline splits at the end meaning that there's a universe in which kang did not die and still remains potentially in a uni ers where loki and Sylvie are side by side. Like in the original comics. We also know that each time the timeline cycles through that. variables change meaning kang might be expanding the timeline to procure more resources and eventualities that lead to one timeline continuing. It's almost as if this version of kang is tapped out of creative content and needed the lokis to present some duality in order for time to move further or reincarnate.

I think that the VTA mind wiping of their agents is an evolution of the red room mind control program. Is funny that Drakov office have a similar aesthetic with the TVA.
