The Purple Rain movie gained popularity because of the mega-selling soundtrack in '84. The original movie storyline was viewed as more B-movie fare for the time, but the songs on the Purple Rain album ignited the World to Prince music. He was in the stratosphere after that for the rest of his days. Prince made the colour purple cool, and he made individual creativity a lasting inspiration of the American dream for so many thereafter.
I am old so was a teen when this came out and saw it in the cinema then. Didn’t know some was filmed in LA! I went to Minneapolis back in 1992 and went to the Glam Slam, thenightclub Prince then owned.

I'm from Minneapolis originally, then an LA native for 33 years. There were MTA city buses in the movie, so I knew parts were filmed in Los Angeles.
Saw it on the theater also. Lucky to be this "old", we've seen a lot of good stuff!😊

I was 14 when Purple Rain came out. Begged and bugged my mom for days to take me to the drive in to see it and she finally did. I loved Prince so much. Wonderful, wonderful video. Thank you for going that extra mile to bring it to life. The statue in MN is gorgeous. Again, wonderful video Jordan!!
