I was in Moss Side one night back in the 90's when some local toughnut mouthed off to me and then run inside his house....i picked up the front of his house and shook it until he fell out...then he said sorry
😂😂😂😂
Haha 🤣🤣.
🤣🤣🤣
Did u check your pockets 😂
You don't beat around the bush do ya!
I grew up in the 80s and 1990s long before the internet and this man has always been famous for fighting. The real gypsy king 👑
Maybe in the north
Only one gypsy king through the uk
Jonny frankham
@@redns7457He’s a professional boxer, this is a different game. Biting, gouging etc. it all happens and was often acceptable in these days.
When my Dad came to the UK from Mauritius, he moved to Manchester (to do his nursing training). He told me of a night he went to a cinema in Moss Side. Parked the car, went to watch the film and then came back to find the car gone 🤣.
He also told me of another time him and my uncle (also from Mauritius) got collared by some skinheads and my uncle was quite badly beaten. Luckily he made a full recovery, lived a good life and was a gem of a man. He has since passed away. Only fault he had was being a city fan.
the shebeens of Moss Side said it all back in the 80s, rough but also much safer times, Unique
Moss Side is not a place to make enemies it’s always had that reputation for good reason, I had no idea Bartley Gorman spent time there.
Love stories of bartley gorman the man was a absolute legend!!! They need to make a life story film using his book and people like yourself and Matt leggs
Thankyou mate
Bartly had some mad cardigans.
😂😂😂 true story
Cardie King next book
@@davidmckay2386most older travellers have a good cardie collection. Haha 🤣💙.
That was his secret...a tactical confusion technique for fighting coz the other bloke can never concentrate properly trying too work the cardigans out...
@@jshaw4757 haha 🤣💙 good one either that or too busy laughing.
Bartley could sing a tune as well as fight hard. Respect.
When a man picks up the front end of your vehicle with you still in it, it's probably time to back down and say sorry 😂
😂😂😂
Yeah, if it was remotely true.
@@grahamlittlefair8107 the old Minis were not that heavy comparatively, I've seen my old man pick up one from the back, admittedly without a guy in it and not the engine end.
@@jasper3127 Me and two mates moved one several yards so it blocked the owners front door when we were teenagers (nice little surprise for when he got back from the pub)...pretty easy really. :D
Never heard of this guy before... once again thank u for information & your hard work x
I met an old school gangster in holiday in Cuba who was reading the autobiography of Bartley, I was reading Gang Wars by Peter Walsh (for the second time). At the end of the holiday we were chatting about the old school gangs QSG etc and the more modern gangs of Manchester (Salford, Pitt bull crew etc), we agreed to trade books and the book about Bartley was absolutely brilliant, what a read. This man was a true gentleman but defo not to be fucked around with, he was scared of no man or men come to think about it. Sadly I didn’t stay intouch with old Ken but often wondered if he liked my book as much as I liked his.
Bartley’s book was also written by Peter Walsh , great author , Gang Wars is a classic , could probably do with an update now though
Got the audio book from Audible after listening to your last reading from this book. Half way through so far! Interesting and enjoyable so If you're enjoying this then the books a must. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
RIP old bartley gorman.
You do a great job narrating mate ,read this book years ago love your extracts from it 👍
Thankyou my friend
Lived in the Moss for 17yrs and I loved it there, it gets a lot of bad press due to its history but there's a lot of worse areas in Manchester nowadays but the thing with Moss Side is say 10 good things happen there and 1 bad thing happened they'd focus on the 1 bad thing
Nice one thanks for video👍
I know Sam and Jerry Gorman absolutely great lads real fighting family ❤
Listened to a couple of these now. They're quality 👍🏻
Good onya, cheers pal.
Thankyou mate
Used to go down Moss Side every Sunday after the all nighter (Twisted Wheel) late sixties, chilling out Jamaïcain style…
Another brilliant upload fella. Ive just finished the One eyed Baz autobiography which was another great read ✌️
Iv read this. Still you're content is spot on. Thanks
Moss side sounds like Fitzroy in Melbourne late 60's 70s old terraces being cleared for high rise flats pub on nearly every corner 6 oubs in 100m strip. I was born n bred there. Aboriginal n Irish Scottish English Australians There were some hardmen in those days 60s 70s 80s up to 90s then area got "gentrified" .
Love your channel n stories
Thankyou very kind. Sounds an interesting place
Great channel mate. Keep up the good stories 👍
Back in the days such tough guys ruled the land. Now LGBTQ plus rules the land 😂😂😂😂!
I have read the book king of the gypsies. It was a great book well worth reading. Ian from liverpool.
Good vid 🌟 A few years ago, Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine were keen on making a film of Bartley (I think Paddy was going to play him). Shane knew him from Uttoxeter. Paddy's probably too old now (unless he really worked out) but would be great if Meadows still directed it! Random trivia but Tom Hardy based his voice, mannerisms etc when playing Bane in Dark Knight Rises on......Bartley Gorman
I saw that very interesting
Phil Lynotts (of Thin Lizzy) Mum had a B&B, a shebeen and also ran the Whalley Pub right on the border of Moss Side and Whalley Range. The Quality Street Gang used to go for after hours after a night of grafting
and partying in the City Centre of Manchester. They used to get bevied up and have the crack and the odd scrap and that is what the song THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN is about by Thin Lizzy. They also sang about Jimmy the Weed who was one of the Enforcers of the QSG and the father of Ant & Chris Donnely of Gio Goi and Manchester Rave scene legends and party organisers.

Lived here all my life princess rd before the riots was fantastic
I went to Moss Side in the 70's as part of a gay theatre group - we went to a pub full of Mancs, Irish and Afro Caribbean's - I buggered em all up - and very grateful they were too .
As for Kevin Lane ...what goes around comes around
I’ve been in the Reno it’s a basement club on the main road into Manchester . My mate got his gold chain ripped off inside . The Reno was open all night or very late . There was a glass window where a guy was sitting behind on a stool with a base ball bat on the floor . Then stairs going down
This man is who Tom Hardy based Banes voice on
The book was a great read
Serious question. How do travellers drive around not only with other peoples trucks and vans, but they must had been over the limit 24/7 with the amount of drinking they did! Were police then not bothered about people not having insurance?
Think a lot more lacks in those days

Hi 👋🏻 uillean pipes student here, uillean is actually the irish word for elbow- it's how you power the bellows on the pipes hence the name. The irish gaelic word for island is oiléan

i used to go a boozer in moss side in early 90,s, to buy ozs of draw, this one time our usual guy wasnt there, so i ended up getting an oz of black off this bigrasta with white dreadlocks, we got back to the car, and the bastard had sold me an oz of playdoo or putty, it certainly wasnt sqidgy black, i wanted to go bk in and have it with him. but knew i was out of my depth. im from wythenshawe originally, not a place to fk about moss side
He used to live in uttoxeter he went around my granddad's house a lot in Cheadle didn't realise who he was until I got older
Apparently Tom Hardy based his Bane voice on Bartley Gorman.
I saw that the other day very interesting
Yes but I don't they sound alike to be honest lol
Of course not. Bane was not written with Bartley’s lovely brogue. However there is something with the delivery. A lilt to the voice, Softly spoken, but with a directness that is very firm.@@seabassmcgee3367
I remember the ordinary decent folk who use live there through family tales.
Not a that bad back then.

Get up chaver told WIGGAZ-FIELD COMPO REPPIN IT UP !!!!
Hope your good ben the bullring was a mad place in the early 80s

How the fuck could ya lose someone runnin away with a fuckin sheep on his back 😂😂
So gormon has basically admitted to being a grass when he brought police back to where they got van trashed
The name hes saying is Doran(door/an), not Duran . Great job though, very interesting.
Thankyou
What boozer was that were they was gonna jump Bartley. Must be rough as fuck if he was worried 😟
Some massive whoppers here... 😅 the man who stole his sheep and then out ran him whilst carrying the sheep on his back..
He's taking the piss surely?
😂😂
Why did he want to fight all the time? I don’t get it. You never see me fighting at the local garden centre whilst having a brew and a biccie.
Probably because he was great at it, and there's plenty of arseholes you'd turn your back on, and most likely rightly so, that he'd turn to face and have a go with in a heartbeat and seek the competition in it, or call them on their bluff and make them sorry for what he considered was disrespect.
From what I heard about him from people who knew him personally was that he was very different from most hard guys. He was that hard he didn't have to be a bully or throw his weight. By all accounts I heard on him he was a gentleman and very good natured. He just didn't stand for bs.
@@roymunson1 he sounds like a fucking lunatic to me. He wasn’t that much of a gentleman because he would definitely of picked on both smaller and weaker men than him. If you do not believe that then you are deluded. You put this men on a pedestal; however, as I say it is not normal to be in fights all the time. Why is he fighting all the time? It is lunacy.
John claimed he used to start fights on purpose he sing a few songs and he knew he was looking for a fight in todays world he be shot dead or stabbed to death you notice with all these hard man autobiography’s they never start trouble and it’s always the other people that started it never them and on moss side he’s lucky he escaped in one piece and didn’t get his legs blown off would of loved him to off fought Garry spiers I know Bartley fought a martial artist but not on the level on Garry spiers that been a interesting fight to watch and very violent someone would be leaving in the back of a ambulance
Gary spiers the complete deal
I'm a kiwi .. Maori , in the 80's were still only a few generations on from tribal warfare days ... Why the Maori battalion of the WW2 were so feared .. Gary father or uncles could of been one .. fighting is in their blood , during my younger days in prison had some , like now even tho in60s , Maori mates , most quietest humble blokes , polite , but would turn (and U could see it in their eyes and feel it) warriors, fearless , when the line was crossed .. it's just in their DNA , now like anywhere most are knife pulling plastic idiots ..
So it is, how about ye, so it is. I almost visited Ireland once, to be sure.
❤
Bartley was a tough man, no doubt but he was also a man for tall tales
There was a rumour going around That Bartley Gorman from Uttoxeter was going to Fight John MALBON from Meir ? John was a mate of mine I asked him he just laughed & said No Way
