It's amazing how someone can agree they created a conflict of interest while still trying to pretend it is perfectly fine to do so.
But it can be okay as long as there are controls in place to mitigate the risk the conflict presents.

@@big_pingu Yes that would be ideal however, unfortunately it is not possible to identify all potential circumstances and the risk they may bear before it arises. So lets take your point that controls should not allow any conflict to exist, should Travis and LaPoint should be banned from having a relationship in the first place? Obviously not. However, they should have taken careful consideration of the repercussions that could occur for their careers in esports further down the line but, since there is no governing entity that has jurisdiction over such an event it comes down to their own ethical compass or that of their peers (like Richard) to hold them accountable - as is the case with this video right here. Richard, Thorin made it very clear that conflicts can exist (after the "conflict of interest in esports/TSM saga" that occurred) and I recall they provided evidence of their own conflicts in past four horsemen episodes. Further, as an auditor I have to navigate the various threats to our independence when working with clients so I know very well conflicts can exist as long as the risk is mitigated. It seems the average esports fan is still not educated in this subject.

The problem with Travis is he wants the credibility of a journalist without the integrity. Selling out for years is understandable (especially when you try to live in LA) but to make it sound like he's not a shill to the gullible younger audience just proves that he's got no integrity at all. Markz is even worse, the fact he makes it sound like he wouldn't bend over the moment Riot tells him to is hilarious. The greed I can look over, it's human nature. It's this smug condescending tone they both portray about "you don't know anything, I've been selling out for 15 years blah blah blah" over any contrarian voice on their platform that just shows their true nature.

The biggest red flag to me, Riot and the Teams playing for them only act when shit already hit the fan and everything is smelling to high heaven. Otherwise they will silence the critics, smother the stories, and say "everything is fine! Come invest into esports! Look how great we are!"
You see what they value by their actions. And their actions show they care more about not looking bad than taking care of the people actually involved.

The cognitive dissonance on display is breathtaking at times. These are the same people who celebrate every incompetent, unqualified leech who comes over from professional sports as a sign Esports has "arrived", but who will also handwave away incredibly harmful behavior as part of a scene in its adolescence. You either want the scene to be professional or you don't, and if it's the former you must hold people accountable. It is that simple. It needn't be complicated by moving goalposts just because you think you know the person who has done wrong.
