The video does Dim with Action Mode on so the video will always appear darker. Turn it off and it will go back to normal like on the first clip. This is probably the reason it doesn’t work in low light.
Action mode tends to crop but here it's looks reverse??
@@dhirajmalluru4853 action mode defaults to the ultra wise sensor, crops in a bit to about .85x or so.
If you use the main sensor by clicking 1x at the bottom the crop will be more noticeable but also the result will be higher quality
I guess they need to keep the shutter speed very fast, otherwise motion blur would make software stabilisation awful to look at

The quality of video in action mode just so bad…
I think it need 48MP too in ultra wide sensor to have a good quality video. Maybe in Iphone 17 hahaha
The action mode really shows the stabilization capabilities of the iPhone. The good thing is it also maintains good chunk of the quality as well. So far from the tests the iPhone seems to have superior stabilization and better video quality.
Action mode is amazing but darker
Because it was the 0.5X ultra wide camera action mode as it defaults to ultra-wide but it can be manually changed to 1X.

I am blown away with the amount of stabilization 14 pro has, this has already surpassed nanu dedicated gimbals out there for sure !
Except for the slightly worse HDR, this probably is the best implementation of this feature in any phone...
it will be improved on iPhone 15 pro, this & the better cinematic mode will make iPhone 15 pro the most anticipating phone ever.
The worse HDR is actually because action mode uses the ultra wide camera by default because this mode crops into the image and slides the frame based on the motion so they use the ultra wide because they can crop into that without losing much view. You can go to 1x too though before shooting the video because MKBHD said that.
Not on other videos. Remember each time you record or take a video it won’t look the same every time.

I think it looks pretty good. it's nice to know it's there especially if you want to take videos of kids playing outdoors. When they revealed the Crash detection gyro sensor and then the action mode, I remembered what Samsung did, linking their gyro sensor to the lens stabilization. Looking forward to a camera comparison with this and the S22 Ultra especially in video category

Great video! One question. It’s weird that the 14 pro video appears to a wider shot even though the new stablizarion should be cropping in more. Was this just how the footage was lined up in post?

Action mode is so awesome, Samsung will have to step up their super steady mode, which is a tad more jittery and comparatively low res , in the next iteration.
Great comparison - and fun too, to include your wife. You should do so more often. The iPhone 14 stabilisation is crazy, so good. This increases Apple position in smartphone video even more. I hope the other companies accept the challenge to improve their phones too.

I mean, it's not really impressive. Other cameras have been doing it for years. iPhone camera still crops pretty heavily to stabilize a footage. Go Pro or DJI action cameras don't have to. Apple would need to figure out stabilization without this crazy crop.

Can you test in action mode but with the normal lens (not the ultrawide one). I think this is darker because you use the ultrawide in action mode

Using the ultra wide camera by default is actually a pretty smart choice by Apple. Because the video crops in and it still looks like main camera in terms of field of view.
But no Danny, you cannot convince me that at 3:45 the whole house is not moving up and down. It really looks like that lol.

However, after seeing this comparison, I see action mode would be crucial for my videos.

Undoubtedly it is the best result that the current market offers in terms of stabilization with video quality... it loses a little bit in HDR, but totally tolerable and impressive what Apple did... it takes time to do it, but when it does it doesn't play in service.
Congratulations Apple... congratulations Danny! Excellent work by both... Pixel was left behind... and Samsung is not even mentioned, it stopped in time this year, downgrading the previous S series in terms of camera quality... and until the S23u comes out, there will be to deal with 4 months of 2nd or 3rd place in the flagship market.

Way more stable on 14. I noticed the 13 was brighter but the trees on the side looked more sharper on the 14.
